I’ll come right out and say it, "Free Fallin'"left me on the floor.

I’ve said this before, but I'll say it again, Cougar Town is at its best when character growth comes along with the comedy. Last night’s episode is another great example.

I’ve always been a fan of the relationship Travis and Jules have, but I’m glad Jules put her foot down with him. Travis shouldn’t have manipulated her like he did (hard to believe considering Jules loves when he “needs” her).

I understand where Travis is coming from after Kirsten broke his heart. He needed some time to put it back together. Is putting your entire life on hold the way to do it? Probably not, but we’ve all made stupid decisions at some (or multiple) points in life.

I applaud Jules’ decision to kick Travis out of the house.

If he’s not going to school he needs to be an adult and enter the real world. Even if it is just to Bobby’s boat. If anything, it’s probably the best place for him. Bobby doesn’t live and provide the way Jules does for him, and the security that comes from that is gone too.

It forces Travis to quickly make some life decisions and gives Jules and Bobby another victory parenting dance.

I’ve always loved Ellie, but her pairing with Grayson made me love her even more. I believe I spoke too soon about the council being my new favorite thing the show has done, because Chalk Children is even better.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Grayson’s eyes be such a prominent feature on his face. I didn’t even know Ellie could experience fear. Well, at the very least she had chills. Either way, I laughed throughout.

While I still think Tom is mostly creepy, I did enjoy his expanded role as the knowledge source of the Chalk Children. The way they got back at the Chalk Children was hilarious with Grayson channeling his Full Metal Jacket, Ellie doing her best Helena Bonham Carter impression, and Tom using his thinking face.

I’m traumatized by the thought of Tom’s thinking face. It gave me chills.

Lastly, Bobby, Laurie, and Andy work together to keep Penny Can successful. In comes Smith’s Dad, Roger, who is willing to buy it. His idea? Make it Lou Diamond Phillips Penny Can.

I love Laurie’s reaction to Phillips, “I don’t know exactly what your race is, but I am into it in a big way.” I was hoping they would press that topic a little more.

Other thoughts:

• I don’t know how they did it, but Jules and Grayson’s role play kiss was somehow creepy.
• I hope homeschooled children aren’t that creepy.
• I highly recommend the “there’s nothing good on TV wine” Jules has. It’s very good.
• Bobby can do some serious damage with a fingernail.
