NCIS Review: Mike Franks' Swan Song Comments (Page 4)

NCIS has a bad habit of killing off characters the public likes. First Kate (who Zeva will never be able to replace) and now Mike Franks. What is wrong with the writers on this show? If you want to kill someone off, how about Leon or Tony? Tony is a sexist pig. Maybe it's time for the final epsisode of NCIS period.

Getting rid of Mike Franks was a mistake. His presence made a huge contribution to the show. He was a super-strong supporting character. Killing him off tends to make me thing the writers are running out of creative steam. You don't put a good horse down. Keep the plot focused on the bad guys and creative investigation and keep the team intact.

I actually like Vance. You have to catch the subtlety of his character and the connection with Gibbs, so I hope he stays on. I am sad about Mike Franks though. I loved his character and his genuine kinship with Gibbs.

Mike Franks is dead! And if what I have read is true, season 9 will cast his "voice" as a means to communicate with Gibbs. This reminds be of the characters Inspector Ian Rutledge and Corporal Hamish MacLeod by Charles Todd.

"Well proby, what are you gonna do about DiNozzo? This is the second time he's gone behind your back to work on some extracurricular assignment? Didn't he say that it wouldn't happen again after the Shepard and Benoit fiasco?"

"Yeah Mike, I think he said something like that."

"You know something proby? This group is starting to get a little too fickle for my taste."

    "What can I say Mike?"

@lll and @Sue Ann Rule number 12 clearly states " you shouldnt date a co-worker" key word SHOULDNT. lol which means they can but they wont. but they should! like, i am the biggest tiva fan there is and they just really need to get together. they would make the show even better then what it already is! hha but i like it when they arent together cause i like the intensity and sexual tension they have between them. but with them being together people think it would ruin the show. so idk. :)

I don't understand why you killed off Mike Franks. I really cared about him and am confused as to why he was removed from the show. The NCIS team is like a family and now he is gone. I Really hope that you don't remove any more of the family that we all love as viewers and fans.

Great show, even when favorites are killed off. We all miss Kate, Jenny and now Mike, but the show goes on. As for Vance, we're not supposed to like him. That;s just another interesting part of the show. Lighten up folks, it's ENTERTAINMENT.

Althought Mikes death was tuff it was a fitting end for someone who walked face forward through life. The effort to take out the p2p killer and dying was more appealing than dying of cancer. When NCIS ends a character it is sometimes hard on the viewer but interesting to the the fan. This is one reason why I love this show'

what was the music played during Mike's funeral?

There was NO NEED to KILL OFF Mike Franks!!!!!! He is or WAS a very intricate part of the show. He was always there to help. Are you people writing the script going to kill or get rid of anymore???? You have a great show with a cast that works perfectly together, QUIT trying to ruin it. Those of us that watch the show every week look at them as family. Leave the FAMILY alone. By the way MIKE FRANKS WAS A VERY BIG PART OF THE NCIS FAMILY, he will be MISSED VERY MUCH!

The Show is great and killing off Mike was NOT necessary but the show would be a lot better if you get rid of Vance,EJ and her team. You guys can never leave well enough alone. Vance also needs to be casted out of NCIS: LA and Hetty left to run the show. Get with it guys.

I thought "Swan Song" was a really great episode, and I mean come on, we all knew they were going to kill off the new team, in some way or another. But did they have to kill Mike Franks? Why not kill of Vance who most of us hate. The character of Mike Franks will be sorely missed. I loved each episode he was in, and I fervently hope that he will now be seen as a ghost mentor for Gibbs. RIP Mike Franks.

@ III -- I think it would be kind of hypocritical for Gibbs to say that there can be no dating on his team. He certainly "dated" Jenny Shepard when she was his partner in Europe. And it did not go badly, so I don't see why that would be the genesis of Rule #12 (Never date a co-worker. Season 1, episode 14, re-iterated in season 6, episode 24 and season 7, episode 14.)

Additionally, McGee and Abby were dating when McGee first came over from his previous station. Gibbs did not lift a finger to stop them, and it would not have passed him by. He misses nothing.

I may be wrong, but I think that Gibbs would let Tony and Ziva be together. It is not contrary to the rules of the actual NCIS. His principal objection to EJ seems to be that he does not trust her, and he does not want her to mess up Tony, who is finally starting to heal after the loss of Jeanne and the reconciliation with his father. That is just my opinion, though.

FOR all the TIVA fans out there... for there to be a TIVA either Tony or Ziva have to leave the team. Gibbs would never allow the two of them to stay on the team if they were "seeing" each other romantically. Just look at the fit between him and Tony a few weeks ago over EJ, and shes on a different team

Please no more loss of characters that are a part of the integrity of the story such as Mike Franks! Bring him back!

I too loved Mike Franks character and I am very sad to see him go. Looks like most of us feel the same about this and about EJ. I thought Mike looked very sickly on the last episode. I am expecting to either find out he had some illness on the show or he is sick in real life. He looked horrid. I will miss him and his interactions with Gibbs. Hopefully, he is the last of the main characters to be killed off in the near future. NCIS is my favorite show and the characters are like family.

The show had to get to this point eventually, all older shows change, not always for the best? I believe this was my last season of watching NCIS! It started with McGee losing weight and has snowballed over the last couple of seasons, hate it, really loved this show, like it was! Really liked Mike Franks too, they just can't leave things alone?

  19. Mary

This show crosses the age line for it's viewers. I know a 75 year man who loves this show and a 6 year old girl who told me, with a sad face, "I watched it with my daddy, and Mike Franks died." That's good TV writting. It makes you want to watch. I am drawn in...every Tuesday night.

  20. Beth

I really want to see EJ and Vance die, and Ziva and Tony, and McGee and Abby, to get together!

This is one of the best episodes I've seen in the series. I only regret the Mike's death. But it served for the first time we know how are the thoughts of Gibbs. I wonder if in many cases, Gibbs imagine what Mike Franks would say or would make. I think so, because Tony is the same with Gibbs.
I repeat: A great episode and a wonderful TV show!!!

i think when ziva started crying in the elivator it wasnt just for mike i think it was for everything that has happened to her in the past but knowing ziva she will bounce back and be the ziva we all know and love.

@ OaklandShoeDiva -- The Secretary of the Navy is the boss of Director Vance. The President is the boss of the Secretary of the Navy. If Vance was telling the truth (and I would NEVER bet that he is telling the truth), then it seems to me that it would have to be one of those two individuals who told him to put EJ in charge of this investigation.
