NCIS Season Finale Preview: What Next?!

at . Comments

After what many feel was one of the most intense, thought-provoking and dark episodes in NCIS history, it's hard to believe there's still one more left this season.

How will TV's #1 drama follow up Mike Franks' "Swan Song"?

The May 17 season finale will bring the team face-to-face with the Port-to-Port Killer at last, with significant and lasting consequences for the NCIS team.

Executive producer Gary Glasberg offered some hints at what's to come Tuesday, as well as how the controversial P2P arc came about. Excerpts below ...

On the episode's title, “Pyramid”: "It’s a reference to where the weight and the power fall. It speaks to how decisions are made, where decisions are made, and where the threat is felt."

"It gets directly spoken to in the finale, so it will be explained."

On the finale's surprises: "Throughout the finale there are a number of “a-ha” moments. It’s very multi-layered and not only wraps up the Port-to-Port story but also a lot of other loose ends that have come up. People will hopefully be excited by it."

On the list of guest stars: "We have a lot of people coming back - Franks, Kort, Ray Cruz (Enrique Murciano). We’re putting together a really strong team of people to go after this Port-to-Port Killer, and it manifests itself in some interesting ways."

On Kerr Smith's performance as Navy Lt. Jonas Cobb: "The whole group has had a fantastic time working with him. Honestly, the emotional resonance of his performance has been wonderful, so I’m really excited to see how people react to it."

On the re-use of references and characters from years past: "That’s the [series creator Don] Bellisario Way! It’s been fascinating for me to learn that, and it presents tremendous freedom to call back to characters, things, lines of dialogue that have come up, and then build entire storylines around ancillary moments."

On crafting the serial killer arc: "In looking at the finale we had last season, and other finales the show has done, we really just wanted to present an adversary that was formidable, one we could really dig into - and yet do it in an NCIS manner."

"The challenge was doing it in a way that was commensurate with this show, and it turned out to be a lot of fun.

On the final body count: "I won’t give numbers, but there is a significant loss that happens for the team – and there is probably more than one. What happened in this week’s episode and the finale will absolutely rock the world of NCIS."

"There is tremendous emotional resonance that happens from the losses they experience, and that resonance will be felt well into next season. I have no doubt."

Really stupid to screw around with #1 show. Criminal Minds mentioned, hardly watch it anymore, has gotten to gorrie and bloody. Not my thing.

no there won't kill Tony Gibbs or Abby a lot of ppl like them so they won't kill them off. Michael signed multi year deal right before season 8 started so did Pauley, Sean and I think Ducky too. this year Mark signed a two year deal and Cote De just signed two weeks ago.

Sorry Craig C, you're wrong. It won't be Gibbs because Mark Harmon just signed a new two-year contract in February of this year, which will make him the highest paid actor in a drama on TV (surpassing Hugh Laurie). Also, Michael Weatherby is also contracted for another year or two. So I don't think either Gibbs or Tony, or any member of the team (including Abby and Ducky) are going to die.

The preview showing Gibbs and USMC carrying a coffin is Mike Franks Franks was in the service so Being close friends as they are the marine would honor his own. As far as who's left. Well all you are missing the obvious GIbbs or Tony will die. Tony has been groomed to lead and now they have EJ there a team leader as well. But I see Gibbs or Tony giving there life to save Ziva

I, for one, would hate to see Vance go; however, it is show canon that all of Mark Harmon's former Chicago Hope co-stars have either been the bad guy (Stacy Edwards) on an episode, or, like Jenny Shepard (Lauren Holly) died in a bloody blaze of glory. Maybe Vance will get burned and they'll bring in Adam Arkin or even Christine Lahti (Snark Alert!) to be the new Director. But I agree; I, too, hated that Mike Franks got killed off.

Hi,I'm just a visitor here but have followed NCIS since day one. I didn't like the Franks killing. Some of the best NCIS shows included him, I will miss that character. Imagine the fun we could have had, had they killed off Vance and brought Franks back as the I think Duckie will prob. get it somehow which will bring Jimmy onto the show full-time. This should make for some very funny moments with Jimmy and Gibbs. One last comment, I think Mr. FBI would make a great director.

I thought Ducky (DM) signed last year for a few years maybe I'M wrong.
Vance may leave if he dies if they get a new director I wish it would be Fornell that would be nice but hes FBI so I doubt that.
the show would survive without Gibbs Tony Abby Ziva and McGee. I think it got better with Ziva I hope Ducky doesn't die like ppl think he is that be so sad but I saw him at the funeral don't know if the beginning of the episode or during the end of the episode. I wish EJ was involved in the murders some how.

I do not know. I thought EJ was the killer, still think she has something to do with it. I hope they do not kill Ducky, I have loved him since the Man from UNCLE. But I can see Palmer taking a more active roll and letting him just appear once and a while.I do not see Gibbs ever being director, maybe Tony, stranger things have happened. If they were to promote EJ to that I would have to rethink watching the show and I have watched it since day one.

if anything happens to his ziva, tony will kill both trent cord and
c.i. ray. what an awful thing they did to another human being(p2p). ducky's going to live to 100 like his mother. hope its
not mcgee. would totally shatter an already fragile abby.

Tony: One other question, I know you're an expert in English history. And I was just wondering, have you ever heard of Archibald Drummond, the 17th Earl of Trent?
Ducky: The Earl of Trent. No, I can't say I have. Why?
Tony: I was just wondering. Thanks.

McGee: All right. Well you should probably know that Abby and I used to date?
Bishop: Ew. Like, each other?
McGee: Yeah.
Bishop: Wait - isn't that a violation of rule 12, never date a....
McGee: It was a long time ago. After we'd broken up, one night I went to her lab. Found a scribbled piece paper; a list. Potential boyfriends had to fulfill certain conditions by a pre-arranged date or else, goodbye.
Bishop: Such as.
McGee: Things started off relatively normal: opening the door for her, flowers, putting the seat down. Then around number 8, it gets uh...
Bishop: What?
McGee: Does she know you have these?
Bishop: Does she know you have these?
McGee: Yeah she wasn't happy when she found out.
Bishop: These are all very specific.
McGee: Yeah.
Bishop: These ideas apply to you?
McGee: No those rules weren't in place when we were together. At least I don't think so.
Bishop: What's with the two month cutoff? Abby's sabotaging herself. I've seen stuff like this before. We have to talk to her.
