Necessary Roughness Review: "Poker Face"

by at . Comments

Between her job and her kids, Dr. Dani's life is never dull. But when thugs show up at her door, a gorgeous blonde moves in on Matt, and her kids are arrested, I'm betting she'd be happy to be bored.

"Poker Face" brings us Matt's ex - and Dani can't stop squinting. Nico says it's her tell when she doesn't like someone. It's either that or Dani needs sunglasses to block the light reflecting off Laura's perfectly blonde hair and perky smile.

Smiling TK

Yet Dani continues to push Matt away. Unfortunately, you can only do that to someone so many times before they take the hint and stop trying. I'm not sure if Matt's at that point, but his willing ex is anxious to show him the way.

Then there's Nico.

As soon as he hears about the thugs at Dani's door, he's taking care of things. He assures her they won't be back, and in the meantime, he has a guard on her house.

I know Nico's the one who sent Jason to Dani, so he's probably feeling a little guilty for the fallout, but he certainly seems to have a protective streak when it comes to the good doctor.

So Dani's got Matt, the gorgeous trainer who's yearning for her on one hand and Nico, the intriguing and protective fixer on the other.  Don't you wish you had such problems?

Back on the home front, Dani's kids are in trouble... again. Every week there's some new debacle for these two to fall into. I agree with Lindsey. I'm tired of seeing Ray J get away with murder, but even when he gets caught, Dani doesn't seem all that angry. Lindsey usually gets more of her wrath. Perhaps it's a mother/daughter thing.

TK continues to play the bad boy and does nothing but joke about his ankle bracelet. I suppose when you've got his money, you just move the party to your place.

And I like how Dani can hold her own at a poker table. For once, having a degenerate gambler for a mother comes in handy.

So, are you as tired of the teenage angst as I am? Maybe we can ship the kids off to their dad's for an episode or two. And if you had to choose a love interest for Dani, would it be Matt or Nico?

Nico is definitely the better choice.

I think Matt in the short term and Nico in the long term. Dani needs a genuinely nice guy she has an easy connection with to help her get back in the dating scene after years of marriage and a nasty divorce with that creep. However, I don't think Matt is complex enough to hold Dani's interest in the long run, but Nico defnitely is.

I like this show. Although I have to say TK kind of starts to annoy me. He acts like a little boy and his actions never seem to have any serious consequences. And even if they do like with his ankle bracelet he doesn't care about it. Also, yes, i'd like to see an episode or two without the teenage angst. I'm tired of ray J being considered the "golden boy" whereas whatever Lindsay does she falls on her nose. I mean, I'm not saying she doesn't deserve it once in a while but just that Ray J does as well... I like Nico way more than Matt. Matt seems nice and all but also not as "grown-up" as Nico. It#s not that he acts particularly immature but I just can't take him seriously enough. Nico on the other hand would be someone I'd consider equal to Dani and someone she needs in his life. A man, not a boy...

Definitely Nico! While the flirting with Dani and Matt is fun, I think things with Nico would be a lot more intense and far more interesting!
And yes, NR 1001, I agree about TK. He does make for some good laughs, but an episode or two without him would not break my heart!
I enjoyed last night's episode, but it didn't grab my attention as much as the other's have.

Nico, definitely. He's WAY more interesting than Matt. And I am ready to lock the kids in the attic for the rest of the season. The old they-get-in-huge-trouble-but-then-realize-the-error-of-their-ways biz is cliched, repetitive and BORING. (Though I do think it's realistic for Dani to be harder on Lindsey than Ray J - it IS a mother/daughter thing.)

nico ftw!

At this point I would choose Nico for Dani, simply because Matt seems to have too much baggage. Plus Nico comes across more stable. Though I did enjoy the Matt/Dani flirting dynamic.
Is anyone else wondering how long the TK storyline can last? I know therapy is ongoing, but I would like a little less TK. Also, why didn't anything happen to TK after Ray Jay admitted TK knew about the memorabilia selling?
Overall, this episode left me wanting more.

Nico all the way!!
