Ratings for the season four premiere of Sons of Anarchy rode high last night, as a record number of viewers tuned in to watch SAMCRO's return to Charming.

Approximately five million total viewers - 3.22 million in the coveted 18-49 demographic - watched as the Sons laid waste to the Russians and Jax started plotting his exit. The show's previous mark? A little over 4.3 million for the season two finale.

“Last night’s ratings are indicative of the passion the audience has for this wonderful show,” FX president John Landgraf said in a statement. “Kurt [Sutter] has crafted one of the most compelling series on television, with the raw, blow-your-hair-back energy of a wide-open Harley and the subtle complexity of a great book.”
