Castle Review: A Kiss for Kaye

at . Comments

Well, well. Look who has a jealous side!

The latest installment of Castle, "Eye of the Beholder,” featured our favorite detectives trying to solve a murder... while at odds over guest star Kristin Lehman. There was also a kiss, Beckett opening up to her therapist and Martha trying to set up her son. So let’s waste no more time and get to it the rundown!

Serena Kaye... So the anticipated guest stint from Lehman stirred up quite the emotions at the precinct. I don’t know about you, but I loved watching Kate face off with another woman. Even though it never really turned into anything, Beckett held her ground and made it clear who she was. That is why she’s my girl.

Kristin Lehman on Castle

Although I didn’t necessarily enjoy the appearance of Lehman, I did appreciate what she brought along with her. Kate admitted to her therapist that Serena’s situation with Castle was difficult on her and her envy was not well hidden. The best quote of episode?

“What are you really scared of? That he won’t wait for you or that he will?"

Loved it!

Another talented lady stopped by the set as a guest star, none other than Nan Flannigan Jessica Tuck. Even as the villain, Tuck kills it. I would watch her on any show, as as long as she heads back towards Bon Temps for the summer.

Who’s Falco?? This may have been one of the most realistic cases we have yet to see on this series. Twists and turns brought out the assistant, the wife, and the infamous Falco working together. I genuinely enjoyed it all. The writers really took the time to build up the layers, instead of twists that seemed irrelevant. Kudos to the staff.

Beckett, Why Do You Do This To Yourself? Kate admitted to her therapist that she is scared and that Castle having other relationships is difficult on her. The writers have been teasing the relationship to us for quite some time and have warned us that this is not something they plan on doing until the middle of next season. Even though I have the patience of a two-year old, I'm willing to wait if we can see the baby steps that took place tonight. Kate said she can’t be with anyone yet; she’s not ready. But at least she's taking the steps to get there, meaning the journey will be just as sweet.

It’s always fun when Beckett isn’t super serious. Loved that she casually dropped the fact to Castle that she modeled nude for an art class. These two make the best faces. Period.

Extra Thought Each week I check out the comments you loyal viewers leave on the reviews. In the past couple episodes, I have found myself reading about Nathan Fillion’s weight gain. I couldn’t really see it, sometimes he looked bigger but you never know with clothing, lighting, etc. But tonight I noticed it. What is going on here??

Serena said it right, she can’t steal something that already belongs to someone else. Castle and Beckett are the end game, we know that.

Overall, a pretty great episode. Since Gates' appearance, she has become less annoying each week. This installment? Not annoying at all. I found myself almost hoping she would have more interactions with the other characters.

TV Fanatics, what did you think? Were you as pissed as Beckett at the appearance of Serena Kaye or is this someone you wouldn’t mind seeing again? Not a whole lot of screen time for Ryan and Esposito - what’s up with that? Sound off below, checking back for the Castle Round Table and enjoy the promo for next week's supernatural-based episode NOW.

The weight issue has been written all season. My theory; boredom of portraying such a swishy character has caught up with NF. Wasted talent, especially with all the action movies in need of a star. Hey if he was Captain America I've probably watched it by now. The Expendables 2 needs someone now that Mickey is out. Concerning the show I had to stop after season 2,(use your yoda voice) painful it was.(Stop Voice) The dummying down of the reasoning was just insulting. Castle gets his House moment or someone utters just the right word.

I wish Beckett would cut her hair.

Since Castle always has his clothes on, frequently bolstered by a bulky kevlar vest, what's the difference if he puts on a few pounds? H'wood standards for BMI are ridiculous any way you look at it. YO! WRITERS! You have just about milked all of the sympathy/empathy/understanding you are going to get for the endless star-crossed lovers arc. You are going to have to put your money where your mouth is--just don't blow it like the fools on "Moonlighting" did. OH--I'm with David--Gates needs to GO--I don't care where as long as it's soon. Need a Captain with a personality and a connection to the officers.

I really enjoyed this episode! It was light and funny and just entertaining. There is only so much you can put into a less than 45 min episode so not everybody will get screen time (I didn't see Lainey or Alexis). Either case, I come for pure entertainment and for me, this episode delivered! I completely understand Martha trying to set up Castle, while she knows he has feelings for Beckett, she lives in the moment and he doesnt look like he's having much fun. This episode also reminded me of White Collar and some of the music was Ocean's 11-esque. Lots of one liners that were funny, the Jason Bateman comment, "that bag of botox", and the ride up in the elevator with the SWAT guys, MUZAK and all!!!! A fun episode that literally had me LOLing!

I really liked the end when she told him the least the precinct could do was take him out to dinner. She was looking so uncomfortable and vulnerable, you know it was hard for her to take that first step and kind of "ask him out". As much as she used to do that before, now that she knows he loves her it adds a whole new layer she's just not comfortable with. So props to Beckett for doing it anyway! =)

Like others here have said, 'why is it complicated?' I don't really mind it - as this kind of thing happens on every show where there is sexual tension between the leading characters. It it were say, Fringe, they can go the entire distance, then stick the characters in separate universes. In Farscape (by FAR the most romantic show I've ever seen) split him into two identical (Castles)they can go the entire relationship distance with one guy, kill him, and then start all over again with the remaining guy.(which odd as it sounds, when well written and performed, can be enormously satisfying for a viewer).
Here, I like what I see because we get to watch Stana Katic show Kate's conflicted nature. Face it people, Kate Beckett is STUCK. Stuck in therapy, even. She's come to see Castle as a partner in every sense, sees the complete guy, knows he loves her, and still can't commit?
And Castle - who told Kate he loved her, suspects she heard that. When Beckett gives him permission to date, it's so obvious she doesn't mean it, that Castle gives her "Really?" He doesn't buy it, and neither did our insurance investigator.
My thinking is that there is more to Kate's 'complications' than we know and that (cue Michael Dorn) we may find that out. But that's why I still love this show: It's Season 4 and we're still learning something about these two.

Did anyone notice the 3 second elevator scene homage to John Landis with the "Girl from Ipanema" playing in the background as the SWAT team rode up the hotel elevator?

Castle, to me, is going in a circle they won't get out of. They really need to move the story forward, finally get C&B together while people still care, and go from there. I am losing interest and I was obsessed with this show for years.

Alright, I know we all want kate and rick together, but why trash him for kissing another woman? Kate has done nothing so far this season to make him think she wants to be with him at all. Have we forgot that she ignored him for 3 months after she was shot? Maybe it was good for her to feel that her spot was being threatnend and its not like he slept with the chick! He turned down marthas attempt at matchmaking, and kate told him to stall, its ricks style to use whatever hes got goung in his favor, and in this case it was his tongue! I personally loved her reactiom and im sure if espisito had seen it he would have tourtured her mercisilly for it. I thought it was a funny and damn decent episode. And Nathan is still cute as all get out so who cares if he expanded a little.

I loved this episode! The only thing that is really bothering me, and I keep repeating in my head is "you know why it's complicated." WHY! I want to know why she thinks this is complicated. Frankly. I think we need more therapy sessions.

Castle Season 4 Episode 5 Quotes

We really could have used her, she has valuable assets. Not that kind.

Castle: Haven't you learned anything from your last fiasco?
Martha: My last fiasco? You married her!
