Castle Review: A Kiss for Kaye

by at . Comments

Well, well. Look who has a jealous side!

The latest installment of Castle, "Eye of the Beholder,” featured our favorite detectives trying to solve a murder... while at odds over guest star Kristin Lehman. There was also a kiss, Beckett opening up to her therapist and Martha trying to set up her son. So let’s waste no more time and get to it the rundown!

Serena Kaye... So the anticipated guest stint from Lehman stirred up quite the emotions at the precinct. I don’t know about you, but I loved watching Kate face off with another woman. Even though it never really turned into anything, Beckett held her ground and made it clear who she was. That is why she’s my girl.

Kristin Lehman on Castle

Although I didn’t necessarily enjoy the appearance of Lehman, I did appreciate what she brought along with her. Kate admitted to her therapist that Serena’s situation with Castle was difficult on her and her envy was not well hidden. The best quote of episode?

“What are you really scared of? That he won’t wait for you or that he will?"

Loved it!

Another talented lady stopped by the set as a guest star, none other than Nan Flannigan Jessica Tuck. Even as the villain, Tuck kills it. I would watch her on any show, as as long as she heads back towards Bon Temps for the summer.

Who’s Falco?? This may have been one of the most realistic cases we have yet to see on this series. Twists and turns brought out the assistant, the wife, and the infamous Falco working together. I genuinely enjoyed it all. The writers really took the time to build up the layers, instead of twists that seemed irrelevant. Kudos to the staff.

Beckett, Why Do You Do This To Yourself? Kate admitted to her therapist that she is scared and that Castle having other relationships is difficult on her. The writers have been teasing the relationship to us for quite some time and have warned us that this is not something they plan on doing until the middle of next season. Even though I have the patience of a two-year old, I'm willing to wait if we can see the baby steps that took place tonight. Kate said she can’t be with anyone yet; she’s not ready. But at least she's taking the steps to get there, meaning the journey will be just as sweet.

It’s always fun when Beckett isn’t super serious. Loved that she casually dropped the fact to Castle that she modeled nude for an art class. These two make the best faces. Period.

Extra Thought Each week I check out the comments you loyal viewers leave on the reviews. In the past couple episodes, I have found myself reading about Nathan Fillion’s weight gain. I couldn’t really see it, sometimes he looked bigger but you never know with clothing, lighting, etc. But tonight I noticed it. What is going on here??

Serena said it right, she can’t steal something that already belongs to someone else. Castle and Beckett are the end game, we know that.

Overall, a pretty great episode. Since Gates' appearance, she has become less annoying each week. This installment? Not annoying at all. I found myself almost hoping she would have more interactions with the other characters.

TV Fanatics, what did you think? Were you as pissed as Beckett at the appearance of Serena Kaye or is this someone you wouldn’t mind seeing again? Not a whole lot of screen time for Ryan and Esposito - what’s up with that? Sound off below, checking back for the Castle Round Table and enjoy the promo for next week's supernatural-based episode NOW.

this is what I got from the entire episode Beckett is turning out to be a character who will not move ahead with her relationship with castle and will not even let him move on. Honestly its getting tired, frustrating and pathetic.

Joyeful

I'm not exactly sure why people care about Mr. Fillion's weight gain. It's not like he looks unhealthy - he looks like most normal 40-year-old men. Whether he puts on or loses weight doesn't make him any less of an actor, any less charming or funny, and certainly not less attractive (not to me, anyway). Oh Hollywood...honestly... I'm torn on this episode. On the one hand, it's one of the funniest episodes they've had in a while in terms of Beckett/Castle's banter, Castle's reactions to things and the potshots the team would take at him. It was old school season 2ish Castle - I enjoyed that. As for the plot - predictable. I knew there was no way the writers would make Castle throw away his chances with Beckett that easily, and we all know at this point that Kate would have been jealous. The whole episode seemed a bit contrived just to remind us of what's going on - they love each other, Beckett's not ready, Castle's waiting. WE KNOW, WE GET IT - can we PLEASE move on!! I gotta say though, I feel for Castle. The man's putting his life on hold. When even your mother is saying you need to get some, things are bad...

Was there a scene when the guest star wasn't in a dress that was just below her you-know-what and just above the tips of her breasts? Meanwhile Kate, who doesn't dress sultry, but laid back fashionable is in a turtle neck, and then a shirt with a tie on another day. Nice subtlety there writers. The whole episode came off as corny to me. It was a 45 minute buildup for her to tell Rick that "she doesn't steal something that belongs to someone else." I don't think that's the first time we've heard that line in some fashion in the show either, but I can't remember when it happened last.

@El - you are so right, I completely forgot about Nan getting killed!! Its only been a little while but True Blood seems like it was so long ago already. I agree that it is a throwback to the way things were before, but don't you think Kate needs that to get herself back in the position she was when she was ready for Castle? When he went off with his ex to the Hamptons?

Awesomest9

I dont think I was breathing for the entire end scene..... but when Serena said "you can't steal something that is already someone else's" my breathing returned. Very well written by the writers. They like to keep the tension at a high!

Didn't like it. They did salvage the overdone angst with the ending, but come on! He tells Kate he loves her, and now he's hound dogging this blonde with too much makeup? Really? Nearly trashed three years worth of development and relationship building. Does he only love Kate if she's dying? Or until his mother wants to set him up on a date? WTF? It was out of place with the previous episodes this season, and offensive to me as a fan of the show since it started. And the acceptance of her working with them, having her inserted between Castle and Beckett was really akward. Don't do that again, writers.

Um, not to spoil anything about Nan Flannigan, but I am not sure she's heading back to Bon Temps next summer. I quite enjoyed the episode because of the many expressions Beckett had. It was refreshing to see Beckett being jealous and giving the pouty face. I noticed Nathan was putting on some weight in Comic con and I am guessing that's about when they are filming these few episode. I wouldn't say he's over weight or anything but definitely bigger than when he was Capt Malcolm Reynolds. It doesn't really bother me, he's still pretty charming ;).

Well my review is not going to be popular! This is what we call a retread in the writing game basically the writers making a lame effort to up the angst based upon past seasons performance.
This is R/K back in S2 doing the Rick eying and making moves on the hot babe and Kate being the jealous one. Basically it's a retread of old seasons and I really thought that he characters have developed beyond this point.
Yep Boring. I give this 1-10. I will do not save this Ep.
My own soon to be published fanfic these two have already kissed and had some serious make out sessions and Rick has lifted Kates top and kissed her scar, gonna leave the sex scene out though though :p
Martha.. Well given that Castle is a well know bastard and doesn't even know his father and is the product of a one night stand and Maratha's well established track of abysmal relationships I was rather surprised she had any advice for Rick RE: Kate.
If anything I would have thought Martha would be encouraging Rick to take an active role in his pursuit of Kate rather than just the well established typical Rick, "lay back and do nothing". Seriously you can go see a shrink and take all the advice in the world but until Rick takes Kate in his arms and kisses her then it's dragging this crappy angst on and frankly it's an insult to the audience.
Pretty much we've seen all this before, the guy, the other girl as eye candy and Beckett's angsty looks.
The whole kiss thing was so "whatever" however I'm still of the opinion that if you tell a lady, who's been shot, laying in your arms, that you love her she pretty much deserves a lot of your attention and after making that declaration, to kiss the next hottie that comes along is kind of a scummy thing to do. Castle used tongue so it wasn't all sting, right?
I'm fully expecting Kate to have a short lived love interest soon as usual it's the 1 step forward and 2 steps back formula being applied here. Kate said she can’t be with anyone yet; she’s not ready. I completely disagree, I think soon it'll be Kate turn.
I did like the comments that were taken at Castle re that kiss by both Kate, Ryan and Esporito.
Gates needs to go.. Period.
I'm a guy and not looking very closely at Nathans body lol so I don't know about if he's over weight or not, frankly its not on my todo list. I know I'm in better shape than he is, my only advice, and I don't know if the Castle crew read this site is...If your going to do a love scene with Stana make sure your in shape Nathan :) The way the writers are stretching it out you'll have loads of time to workout methinks.
Check for round table soonish :)
