Private Practice Review: Coop and His Mini Cooper

at . Comments

Four weeks in... and I’m pleased to say this season of Private Practice has been anything but boring. "Remember Me" was almost all about Cooper and his “Mini Cooper,” and it certainly did not disappoint.

Picking up right where we left off after Cooper received the surprise of his life a week ago, this episode kicked off with Cooper claiming he didn’t even remember Erica. He rightfully questioned why she would wait nine years to tell him and how he wished she had told him about Mason sooner. Good question, Coop. Charlotte’s was even better: Why trust Erica if he was with her for merely a single night nearly a decade ago?

A Big Day for Cooper

First things first, though, I’ll admit that I'm just like the majority of Charlotte and Cooper fans, wanting to scream when I first heard about this long-lost-kid storyline. I was upset and disappointed because I just wanted the nearly newlyweds to catch a break. Then, there was the fact that this plot has already been done only a million times on various shows.

However, I’m going to trust, or at least hope, that Shonda and company have our best interest in mind for this couple. Besides, what doesn’t kill them can only make them stronger... right?

From shock to acceptance and finally joy, Cooper reacted with all sorts of emotions to the news of his “Mini Cooper." He was so taken by the idea that he was a dad that he even refused his colleagues’ pleas for a paternity test. At first, I couldn’t understand why Coop would act so recklessly, but I quickly realized that this was totally Cooper. He has no blood relatives, and he wanted this newfound joy to last for however long it could.

As expected, Charlotte did not handle the news well. At all. Honestly, I was surprised at what went down during Charlotte and Erica’s meet and greet. I know it’s just begun, but I can’t wait until this whole storyline is over. I absolutely hate what it’s doing to Charlotte and Cooper. Luckily, the paternity test issue wasn’t dragged out, and Charlotte had the test done and found out that Cooper really is Mason’s father.

Case closed.

Elsewhere: When Violet expressed excitedly how great of a dad Cooper would be and Charlotte said her statement was stupid, I kind of laughed out loud. And although I thought it was totally harsh when Pete basically called Violet a dog in front of Sheldon, I laughed a little harder. To say the least, Pete’s anger continued to worsen and his breaking point can’t be too far off ahead. Do you think Pete and Violet will be able to work through Pete’s “anger phase” and their other numerous issues? I can't say I care too much either way.

This week’s medical case reminded me of the movie, 50 First Dates. It was nice seeing several of the doctors team up to try to keep a family together.

Meanwhile, Amelia tried to stay strong with her three days of sobriety. Addison finally admitted that she was worried Sam would leave if and when she is pregnant. And Sheldon still didn’t have a storyline of his own.

Overall, I thought "Remember Me" was another strong installment. Here’s hoping that this season continues with more incredible episodes!

I love Cooper and I can get used to the little boy but his mom really annoys me. I too am sick of Violet, her character just doesn't get it. She is selfish etc. I love Pete and hopefully he will find someone better for him. I want Addison and the new doc to get together. That would be so awesome! And everyone is right, Sheldon deserves a nice storyline. I watched last night's show and was blown away by what he said to Amelia in her house. I thought now that's the Sheldon I want to see more of.

Am i the only one who thinks PP needs to be cancelled??? I'm a huge Shonda fan but PP has not hit the spot this season, its been predictable and at times utterley boring. This is a show i have loved and it feels like its being run into the ground. We need more outstanding standards we've grown accustomed the Katie/Violet or Charlotte rape storylines. This shows has always been about the strong and powerful instead of the tired and mediocre. Please bring us back the PP we all know and love PP Writers, these actors/actresses deserve better!

Yes, Violet is super annoying! Really! I cannot stand her more and more every season(well except season 3, where i didn't mind her). It's her atrocious selfishness and nosiness that annoy me. And her total lack of boundaries. And she is whinning all the time. And cannot accept different opinion. And wants everyone to like her. Well she expects everone to like her. But why? THere is nothing likeable about her! I wish she would took Sam, and they would run away together and jumped into the volcano!

I wish Violet would just go away! I don't see her being an asset to the practice anymore at all...notice how must people are basically annoyed with her. Charlotte keeps holding her and Cooper together each week. It's nice to see this storyline and was great to watch Charlotte say to Sam that she and Cooper would handle the problem together. No one's perfect, but I really appreciate her character and her character constantly sticking to her commitments and responsibilities. P.S. Benjamin Bratt is just dreeeeamy! Excited to see how it'll all play out with Jake/Addison/Sam, but every time he's on screen, my cold heart just melts!

@carls and @Caitlyn - Interesting! The thought never crossed my mind that Charlotte could be lying about the paternity test. It's hard for me to believe that Char would lie to Coop about something as serious as this, but who knows?! @All of my fellow Violet haters - I completely agree with your thoughts on this underwhelming character. Every week I tune in hoping that she might change from her narcissistic and selfish ways. As you all know, it’s bound to happen next to never. P.S. @Joceyln, I LOVE your idea! She might be worse than Vanessa.

Like Gossip Girl, I think the writers should have a "Violet Uselessness Scale" since she's been getting on my nerves this entire season and most of the last. Seriously, she's toxic for Pete (and Lucas).

I've been dreading this storyline for Charlotte and Cooper since the spoilers first came out and I got more annoyed about it when Mason was introduced. No offense but the kid is annoying. I get why Cooper's excited but Charlotte's right that he was being an idiot. I'm not sure though if Charlotte really did the paternity test because in previous interviews with Paul, he mentions how the actual blood testing is stretched a bit. I hope she didn't actually do it and that this kid isn't really Cooper's. Also, that scene when Cooper screamed at Charlotte made me want to punch him in the face. Totally for Charlotte and Cooper but I'll always be on Team Charlotte.

Chistina, I think what Charlotte said about the DNA test was only to appease the way Cooper and Cooper let him know that she accepted his "son", but I dont has the test

I don't mind If shonda messes up with char/coop as long as they do not break up and they stick together through this

LOVED this episode, and I can see a future hook up between Jake and Violet, and I will ship it, And I still love Addisam but they need to really talk =) Coop and his kid annoyed me -__-'

The minute I saw him I knew. I mean... he's a Mini Cooper.

Violet: Cooper's going to be a great dad!
Charlotte: That is a stupid thing to say.
