Vampire Diaries target audience (aswell as the cw network) is young and might not have their own tv. Private Practice is on the leading network ABC and thwy require a larger audience or the show will be canceled. The CW is also a new network and some areas still have triuble getting it

I ain't American and need to ask..
Why is a 3.2 million on Vampire Diaries great,
and 6.6 million for Private Practice bad?

Dr Cerreno, for me this season is the best, and audiences of 6 million is half of this season, but in the demos and the DVR are not negligible, as well as commercial sales are also good

Private practice: A show that is established and has a great cast is pulling bad ratings because the writing has gone to the pot! Seriously!
Happy for TVD! But the ep was bland.
The secret circle is getting better rating. It needs to do better!
