Two and a Half Men Review: Greetings, Conan the Humanitarian

by at . Comments

Judy Greer must have set some kind of record on the most recent episode of Two and a Half Men.

The actress has now played Aunt Myra, Bridget and Dani. At least last night's appearance was intentional and the audience was in on the joke. Plus, she gets bonus points for bringing along the beautiful Kiki, the bimbo resonsible for uttering the episode title, "The Squat and Hover."

Alan and Walden

Greer wasn't the only guest star who returned: as Jane Lynch reprised her role as one of my favorite supporting characters, Dr. Freeman. While Ashton Kutcher's phoned-in acting and failure to play off this comedic legend hurt this scene's potential to compete with Lynch's past appearances, it still had some great lines and laughs.

Also guest starring? True Blood's hunky Joe Manganiello. He stopped by to give Ashton Kutcher a run for his masculine money, making men everywhere feel inadequate. Of course, his character wasn't just good looking, he was Conan the Humanitarian.

Speaking of which, with wit like that, writers are definitely tweaking Walden Schmidt. So many of his moronic tendencies seem to be slowly disappearing and they're finally giving him the witty lines other characters have been spewing for years. Now, if we could just get rid of the obligatory nude scene that Jake, Alan and the audience are all painfully subjected to each week.

Another positive for Walden / Kutcher? (That's right.  Two in one review.) The budding friendship between Walden and Alan is finally starting to feel like it's working. Just continue to tweak Walden and keep playing off the nine years of flamboyance Cryer has put into the character with classic gay jokes... and we'll have an actual buddy comedy on our hands!

Overall, it was a decent half hour. The show is becoming much more watchable. Now, cue the pleases for Charlie Sheen to return...

Eric Hochberger is the programmer of TV Fanatic, so please forgive his mediocre writing. His programming is far better. Follow him on Twitter and/or email him. Just don't request threaded comments. They're coming.

Sorry, the new 2.5 just sucks. Nice job messing up a great program with mindless, stupid sexual innuendos and worse acting. Off my list of programming to watch.

I'm trying - really trying to like this show, but it's like watered down pop. I like Ashton, but there is nothing original - the show could have been named "Kelso Moves to Malibu." It was nice to see Jane Lynch back, but there was zero spark between her and Ashton. Judy Greer is the best new/old addition to the show. It's kind of sad to watch this sinking ship. Bet Charlie's enjoying every minute.

It's pretty obvious that the show is missing something. It almost seems like the writers are trying too hard. The show just doesnt seem to have a natural flow. Just watch an old episode and you'll notice the difference immediately. I guess I'll keep watching for now to give Ashton a chance to evolve but my patience is starting to run thin.

I think season 9 has been pretty good so far, including this episode. Ashton is no Charlie Sheen but he's doing alright. Even if the show was better with Charlie, it's still a nice change after eight seasons with a new character that isn't a mean drunk.

If you going to complain about the show then you shouldnt watch it and stop bitching about the show. I'm glad joe from trueblood was on there last night. hes hot as hell.

Two and a Half Men needs a womanizer to remain entertaining, and ever since Charlie left, it hasn't had one.

It's always a pleasure to see Jane Lynch, but the writers had the same problem with her that they've had with the other female regulars: she lost her edge around Walden, just like Berta, Evelyn and Judith did. Dr. Freeman used to slap Charlie around verbally, but she was nice to Walden because he's such a lost little kid. She had one good line - "Maybe I'm not gay" - but overall, the scene had no snap. And Jane, if you're reading this, please - I'm not asking you to switch teams, but how about some interleague play?

i dont get how this is not 0 stars? it was hideous. unfunny. i'm blown away how anyone could find humor in it... i don't get it. and i dont mind kutcher... the show is just so badly written and lazy at this point... 3 stars? really?

I think the show is absolutely horrible- not even funny at all- it's too bad- the chemistry is just not there with Ashton..very juvenile!

I just can't watch it anymore....it is not the same without Charlie.....Ashton is not made for that show....I agree with whoever said he's acting like his character in That 70's show...that's exactly who he's acting like. Its not as funny anymore....even Berta isn't that funny anymore...Charlie made that show...I know he screwed up with everything he did, but he should be on that phone..not Ashton...

Jake: Dad, please tell me I'm not done growing.
Alan: Knock yourself out.

If I had hope in one hand and poop in the other, guess which one would be full?
