Agree with the review. It was kind of lazy on their part as far as writing goes with how they used Katherine. the biggest characters on this show used as plot devices rather than characters are Katherine, Matt, and Bonnie. one of them still manages to be awesome while being used but the others still need work.
Klaus is an amazingly complex villian and it's wonderful. His confrontation with his father was enough to take my breath away and leave me on the edge of my seat. Rebekah is a gem...she's just a girl who wants to be a girl for once. The overall theme of family and loyalty was beautifully interwoven in it all. Shippers be pissed at me if you like but the true love story of this series will always be and has always been between the Salvatore brothers and their strained, complex, but strong bond. It's beautiful. The character growth and instrospective moments involving the hearts of the show were poignant and apparently overlooked...
Damon has finally come to grips and embrace

No offense but that was a weak review.
Yes, they used Katherine in a very convenient way and didn't let us know every little detail until the end. But a review shouldn't focus only on one plot hole - what about the rest of the episode? The plan to get Klaus back to town, Caroline and Tyler breaking up, Katherine wanting to save Damon's life even if it means running for the rest of eternity, Stefan's compulsion being broken and the fact that he stole the coffins of the other originals! You can't just let that out!
Personally I didn't mind the way Katherine was used, I like her character anyways and I like how she always surprises us. I liked the flashbacks as well, and even the flashbacks within the flashbacks.
Just think about it - had they done everything without flashbacks the episode wouldn't have been as exciting because we would've known what would be next!

What a great episode! I thought Damon and Elena were finally going to kiss by the end of this episode... I guess not... But I can't believe Forwood is really over! Am I the only one that finds that heartbreaking?

I should be doing laundry or raking leaves but no I'm writing a review of TVD. I didn't find the flashbacks all that tragic or Katherine's mysterious appearance as unexplainable. Michael kept her alive possibly because she saved him - I mean that's a big freaking deal - and guess she could fill him in on everything and lead him back to Mystic Falls. She was valuable to him, Katherine is ultimately valuable to everyone because that bitch is smart. But her reveal about loving Damon rang untrue. I liked it that she loved Stefan and he was a distinct weakness for her. But she has been slowly building a new relationship with the brothers and I think the writers did that without overdoing it in past episodes. Katherine saving Damon instead of allowing her arch nemesis Klaus to be killed was the most unbelievable thing since we know Katherine is all about self-preservation. Unless ofcourse she figured out what a colossal creep his father was and decided he was the bigger threat. STAN

A highlight for me: Katherines trademark smirk and her "Baboom".
On another note I'm sort of glad Tyler and Caroline are over (he had turned back into season 1, only now sired to Klaus), but I am going to miss Forwood. Still, Caroline can do better now. Maybe try again with Matt (it's not that i exactly liked them together, but Matt really needs a girlfriend)...?
Something just occurred to me...we'll never know WHY Mikael starting hunting Vampires :-/

Its nice that I saw humanity in Klaus. I will miss the hell outta Becca, I miss Elijah. I adore Damon and Stefan and rot for them to be close again. I don't ship but because I'm not bias I have a clear understanding. Stelena was innocent and cute, "true love" that can't be maintained and isn't realistic long term. They will always love each other but they were to much alike. Stefan could never be himself and was never really happy. He needs a strong vampire like Rebecca or Katherine. Elena couldn't grow and mature with Stefan, in a way they kept each other from their proper journeys. Stelena can't be endgame because they can't be the yin to yang. In comes Damon, a vampire who is in almost every way Stefans opposite. The in your face and "bad" brother hiding behind his in your face mask because he can't take getting hurt again. He can't be controlled because he never got what he wanted. The love of the woman he wanted. Kat loved him but was in love with his brother, he's u

i also hate how the writers are confessing us with the Stefan and Elena relationship. the first episode back when Stefan made the phone call to her and she said i love you Stefan hold on to that never let that go. it was touching. and then when Damon, Elena AND ric went to look for him and when she was in the car he was watching her. and then when she was in Chicago and he found her in the room and the look they share and the hole senior prank night when the other thing that was stranger then his blood thirst was the love for Elena. the bond fire night you saw something between them when he catch her, you know her was feeling something then. but after that i feel like they made it seem like there love was greater then anything else but now Damon is the only one can save him not Elena. its just so confessing i wish the can just pick someone and stick with it.

Am I the only one wondering why Damon doesn't just rip Klaus's heart out?
This is the first episode of the season that I have actually enjoyed. I saw the Katherine trick coming, and I was totally okay with that. But I really wish Klaus had died and Michael had lived.
Thank God Elena is finally willing to let Stefan go. I was so tired of her fighting for a lost cause.
I have allot to say about this episode but I guess The most important of the episode about function was that It started Fast and ended slow and a little boring whit no big surprise or on a big way like on other seasons, I mean Its the mid season finale. Other thing I really hope Katherine Is gone for good until she brings a strong story...

All things turn into something great and i`m still wondering how it could be that nina dobrev has such great chemistry with damon when she plays the elena part and on the other side with stefan when she`s playing Katherine.
Just a small sidenote..
I really love the new Stefan and i think it`s important that Damon have a strong part beneath him. Because they both work together much better than each one alone.
With all this questions about dumb couple names, i think this show is on the highest level if it come to the very complicated love-hate-thing between the salvatore brothers. I`m pretty sure that they both love nobody more than each other and i`m really sad for Stefan that he wasn`t and isn`t capable to say it to his brother. While he has redeemed himself somewhat during season 3 he's turning back into predictable for me. While I was genuinely surprised by everyone else's actions this episode, I knew practically every move Klaus was going to make during this entire episode.
Have someone, probably Tyler, disrupting and moving the dance? Check.
Show up there unexpectedly and at a very bad time to screw up whatever plan the Heroes have? Check. This one is a cliche the entire series has been milking to death, I admit I can't blame Klaus for this one.
