TV Staff Selection, Take 9: Chuck & Dan for Most Dynamic Duo!
Leigh Raines at .Who deserves to be crowned TV's Most Dynamic Duo? That's what we're asking readers to vote on, and what the TV Fanatic staff has been making cases for these last two weeks. Previous contenders include:
- Mike and Harvey on Suits.
- Emily and Nolan on Revenge.
- Kensi and Deeks on NCIS: Los Angeles.
- Troy and Abed on Community.
- Sam and Dean from Supernatural.
- Castle and Beckett from Castle.
- Shawn and Gus from Psych.
- Damon and Alaric from The Vampire Diaries.
Now, Leigh Raines is here to explain why Chuck and Dan, affectionately known as Duck, from Gossip Girl deserve your vote. On what grounds? We examine the unlikeliest of bromances below ...
The best pairings are often the ones you wouldn’t expect.
Back in 2007, when Dan Humphrey punched Chuck Bass in the face at “The Wild Brunch,” I never expected they would strike up a friendship. Alas, here they are smoking blunts, drinking scotch and watching The Matrix.
Despite years of festering disdain, these two have finally found a friendship and it’s all thanks to a force bigger than them, Blair Waldorf.
Pair a rich Manhattan hedonist with great dialogue and a smartass writer from Brooklyn and you’ve got yourself TV’s newest bromance. They’re comedic banter has been a saving grace in a season that many fans feel hasn’t been up to par.
My favorite quotes are probably the digs about Dan’s hair, because let’s face it, his hair has become it’s own character. But there are a ton of other lines that highlight the hilarity of this dazzling duo:
Chuck: Humphrey, I'm feeling like my old self again.
Dan: Me too. Although not in a good way. I really thought the days of everyone turning their backs on me were over.
Chuck: Well, at last this time it's because they hate you and not because they don't know you exist. Be patient. Soon your literary misdeeds will be forgotten.
Dan: Thanks for letting me hang here, man.
Chuck: I enjoy watching you squirm. Scotch?
Dan: It's like 2 p.m.
Chuck: Valium then?
Chuck: Are you willing to get a haircut and change your clothes?
Dan: No.
Chuck: Then I don't know what I can do for you.
All jokes aside, I think these two are more similar than they think. I say this as an aside from their interest in Blair. It comes as no surprise to me that they finally realize they are an intellectual match. Whether you’re on Team Chair or Team Dair, you have to agree that Duck is shutting it down these days. Now please go vote!
