Hawaii Five-0 Review: Shelburne, Revealed!

by at . Comments

"Pu' olo:The Package

I would venture to say that the most talked about mystery this season on Hawaii Five-0 has been who - or what - is Shelburne, which Wo Fat has been chasing and/or afraid of. Sadly, this buzzed-about question turned into the the most disappointing reveal ever this week.

For months we've been agonizing, hypothesizing, analyzing, and theorizing about Shelburne, and our reward is this?!? Oh, yeah, it’s a code name and I used it when I killed Wo Fat’s father. Why the heck did we need to be tortured with that for this long?

Leading the Dangerous Way

Okay, that letdown aside, this week’s episode offered several good things that helps soften the bitter taste Shelburne is going to leave. First, Rachel and Grace were back. I’m not sure if Claire van der Boom is really pregnant, or was recently so, as she kind of had that “new mom” glow about her. I was crossing my fingers that she would tell Danny the baby was really his. Alas, it was not to be.

Second, all you anti-Lori readers got your wish because she stayed in the truck while the rest of the team went into the warehouse. That’s not to say us pro-Lori people weren’t happy, as she and Kono going to get Sang was great. I'm still a big support of Kono and Lori's girl power.

While we're talking about Lori, it looks like the series has finally found a look for Lauren German. Her hair is longer and darker, and she is dressing with influences from Kono, Steve and a touch of Danny. I know I’m in the minority, but I’m really hoping we see German added to the opening credits so she is confirmed a long term Five-0 member.

Is anyone disappointed that Joe is going into hiding? I know I’m not. After the months of cat and mouse over Shelburne and the disappointing reveal, I’m ready for him to not be the focus - at least for a while. Then again, Joe called someone a few episodes back about Shelburne. I suspect it was Hiro Noshimuri, but it could be a loop hole for a better answer to this ongoing question.

Speaking of the Noshimuri family, now that Adam no longer thinks Joe killed his father and Steve asked him to help with Wo Fat, many Ian Anthony Dale fans may get their wish to see Adam more often. While comments on the last episode exploded with discussion over who was better looking, Alex O'Loughlin or Dale. I’m going to freely admit to having a budding man crush on both of them and let you all take it from there.

Steve McGarrett Receives Call

Did anyone else catch the attempt to patch the plot hole with the flashback to 1992? If you’re not familiar with the plot hole in question, there has been a discrepancy pointed out between comments made on the first season when Steve was the high school quarterback and the first episode this season when Joe and Steve discussed why Steve’s father sent him away when he was a teenager.

The flashback attempted to patch said hole by showing Steve as a junior in high school getting sent off to the military academy. However, as Steve was the “star quarterback,” it was still a bit thin given that most quarterbacks are juniors or seniors, not sophomores. Maybe it’s different on the islands.

Overall, it was a good episode for tying up a lot of small bits of information and landing flat on one big one. Let's see where the show goes from here.

I'm sorry. I have lost all interest in the Wo Fat/Joe/Yakuza/Steve's Father story line. It makes no sense. In the flashback Steve says he's just beginning his junior year, so the flashback is the fall of 1992, so Steve graduates from high school June of 1994.At least we know Steve will be 36 this year. And what was this "Army-Navy Academy" that Uncle Joe got Steve in while still in high school? Kinda hard to play the annual Army-Navy football game with one team.

ok, i hope to hear Rachel tell danny that the baby is his, but she is not going to know yet! we an only hope
as for steve, i do not think that is the end of the issue with Joe, remember Joe has told Steve thinks he "Wants to Hear" which sometimes does not seem right. we just need to wait to see wha the rest of the season brings.
as for 2 weeks cold turkey, what is CBS thinking?????

@Hollz.....That's because we have another break again we get two weeks of repeats that means the show will be back February 6 with 2.15!

I totally loved this episode, (even though there were a few minor bumps), but the relationship between Danny and Rachel, (and Grace), in those hospital scenes was awesome. I can only hope for more! Plus, the bit about Danny's nose at the end, in relation to the baby, was hilarious...maybe a hint at what is to come...? *fangirl moment* OH - PLEASE SAY THE BABY IS REALLY HIS! XD
Anyway, the episode must have taken my fancy because like the past two episodes, (which I thought really dragged), this episode flew over and I wanted more! :D
Does anyone know what next weeks episode is called? I can't find anything on Wiki, and when I type season 2 episode 15 into google, it doesn't show any results about the episode name? THANKS!

I thank you JIM because thanks to you, I know why, I like Hawaii five o and I have thank God another brain to think and as long as this brain will work you always find "resentful" people, it’s not my word but you. I wish so much that she leaves even the end of season 2, you dont know how i wish, so thanks for us. Thank you for this nice and brave recap. ps : sorry for the first comment, it was such a shock to read you that I lost my words

Personally I'm not convinced that Joe was telling the truth about Shelburne. I think he may have said what he said just to try and throw Steve off the scent. After all, who did he talk to about moving them when he had Hiro in the trunk of the car a few episodes back? I can't believe they've cut the whole Shelburne thing off just like that. It was good to have Steve and Danny back feeling like friends and partners again, even though Danny was at the hospital for most of the episode. For me, that feeling that they've got one another's backs has been missing for much of this season. Maybe now that Joe's gone we'll get some more of it. My only comment on Lori is that she's more bearable when she stays in the van and doesn't try to run with weapons...

KONO works well with any member of the team, me not to say so many LORIE WESTON about it. And if for you not liked lorie is a crime and indeed I am guilty.
The next time when you will make a recap, try to include everybody. You speak constantly about Lorie because it deprives you that we do not like her, the last week kono was fantastic with steve (it’s not the only episode), were are you?
I had forgotten, lorie succeeded stopped 15-year-old kid, which exploit, the real warrior when it is a question of stopping children.

I grant it to you Jim. G, all this mystery around shelbourne to come there, it is disappointing but let us pass. As I said it, the intrigues around the season 1 were sharply better.
Let us speak about Rachel and about her baby, devil why make her come so that Dany attends his childbirth while the baby is not his. Let us pass, Peter LENKOV or the scriptwriters should be more coherent, but let us pass. Then, I do not know if you are bitter or if it is the fact of seeing the reality opposite that hurts you, but why to use you the term "to hate" every time. It is not because we do not love somebody that we hate him. It is just that her character brings nothing and if at the end of 14 episode, it manages to express things and very fortunately. Shit since the beginning, which has made? You find her constantly gifts or qualities, it’s your rights but I see you to us not making so many eulogies on KONO who by far surpasses her.
