When I first heard about Lost Girl, I thought it was another vampire show. So I was pleasantly surprised when I watched the premiere to find out it's not.

Granted, I love vampire programs and watch most, if not all, of them currently on the air - but wasn't sure I wanted to take on another one. Lost Girl certainly has components of those other series, but what excites me is the unknown mythology of this world.

In "It's a Fae, Fae, Fae, Fae World," we get a brief introduction to the unique universe. Because Bo has lived with humans her whole life, we get to learn about the Fae and what they are, along with their community, at the same time she does. Based on this first episode, I'm ready for the ride!

As soon as we meet Bo, her motives and morality are ambiguous. While she saves Kenzi, she also kills a man with her kiss. Is she good? Bad? A mixture of both? This question is answered quickly. We find out that she is basically good, but has an infliction that she doesn't know how to control.

Unlike a serial killer, who kills for the thrill, she kills because it is inherent to her being. She doesn't know how to permanently stop because it sustains her existance. Despite what she witnessed in the elevator, Kenzi trusted Bo and decided to go with her. Even though Bo can control people, Kenzi didn't seem to be under her influence. Actually, Bo tried to get rid of her, but instead they were pulled together.

The relationships that began to form are what I found the most interesting. Kenzi didn't let Bo go and instead tracked her down, ultimately saving her. And Bo needs the human companionship and agreed to partner with Kenzi.

In addition to Kenzi, Bo's circle of people (potential friends) expanded quickly. Even though Dyson brought her to the Fae, he looked out for her by giving her the power needed to pass the test. That kiss! It was hot, hot, hot! I wouldn't mind seeing more of that. He was definitely taken by her at least a little. In the end, he offered his assistance if she needs it, which I'm sure she will.

Bo's other new friend was the doctor, Lauren. It was difficult to tell, but Bo's compulsion didn't seem to be the only draw between the two. I'm looking forward to seeing how their relationship develops. Lauren wants to learn more about the Fae and Bo needs to learn more even if she doesn't want to know.

Bo is going to need all three on her side if she wants to survive. For some reason, the Dark Fae and the Light Fae decided to honor her wish to pick neither side and remain living with the humans instead. Since this has never been done before, is there something unique about Bo? Are they allowing it just to find out where she came from or is there more to the story?

This first episode primarily set up the show's world and the main players. So far I'm intrigued by the characters, their developing relationships and the humor. These are funny people. The dialogue - visit our section of Lost Girl quotes - continually had me smiling or laughing. I can't think of another show that started with "Mr. Smiley Face," referenced a "creepy hand job," "Fourth of July of the month," or the phrase "don't get dead."

I already adore Bo for her independence, Kenzi for her spunk, Dyson for his allegiance and Lauren for her compassion. The rest of the season will reveal if these characters deserve that affection or not. Did you love these characters as much? What are you looking forward to seeing next?
