One Tree Hill Review: Should I Stay Or Should I Go?

by at . Comments

One Tree Hill continued its stellar start to season nine with an episode not as epic in nature as the premiere, but just as emotional, and - thanks to the appearance of Chuck Scolnik - maybe more hilarious.

Because they use song titles for episode titles on One Tree Hill, sometimes it's a stretch to connect the dots between the single and the content. That wasn't the case with "In The Room Where You Sleep," as it became clear early on that the location of where a number of characters would be laying their heads in the near future would be a theme of the hour.

Alex and Chris

Alex and Chase, who I have loved separately and together since each arrived in Tree Hill, took some major steps forward and then, just maybe, a giant step back.

First of all, it was a ballsy move by Chase to just go ahead and move all of her stuff into his place. On the one hand, if she's down for it, it could be seen as completely romantic. On the other, if she's unsure of herself like Alex seemed to be, it could be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

The whole development, with Chase and Chuck moving Alex's stuff to his place, and then Chase and Alex pouring their hearts out to each other - exchanging "I love yous" and what not - was pretty heartbreaking considering it was obvious that Alex was going to leave.

I assume this is the case where art imitates life - because Jana Kramer is off pursuing her career as a singer - but could it be that this is indeed life imitating art? Did Jana read the script that says Alex decides to go make music, and think it was a good idea? Yeah, I doubt it.

Kramer Tweeted tonight for everyone to "say goodbye to Alex," so I'm assuming this truly is it for her character. Is that enough of a goodbye? Will we just see Chase's reaction to the fact that she left to go on tour? And are they staying together, or was her leaving due to the fact that she realized she didn't want to settle down with Chase? Maybe I'm over thinking it, and Alex will be back next week to tie up the loose ends. Maybe.

The other room-sleeping situation that had my stomach in knots was everything and anything that happened between the Scotts. Dan poured his heart out yet again, Haley bit because she believes in forgiveness.

Nathan threw Dan out but then at the very end he said "When I come back, you have to be gone." So did he mean that Dan can stay all the way up until the moment Nate comes back? That seemed to be the way the murderer took the comment because it didn't seem like he'd be going anywhere anytime soon.

So while Nathan will be sleeping in Europe, because Clay can't figure out how to sleep anywhere besides a park, Dan will be sleeping in his son's house with his daughter-in-law and grandson. I can't help but think that Dan's final glance at the end of the episode was the look of a man with a plan. Perhaps he's just happy to be with family, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he had something else up his sleeve.

Now start trying out the third-person for a while, and take a look at how the couples stack up in this week's One Tree Hill Relationship Rankings...

1. Brulian
These two continue to be great together. Whether it is handling their cute twins, or dealing with the ridiculousness that is Brooke's parents, they do it in stride. I loved Brooke's speech to Victoria about how awful her parents have been, because they seriously have been. They come when it benefits them, and that's not fair to her.

2. Naley
I love the compassion Haley shows for Dan, and I love the strength Nathan shows in standing up to his father. These two have been through so much, and now it seems like Haley is going to have to deal with being without her man for quite some time. That will be interesting.

3. Chalex
As angry as I am at Alex for choosing the tour over Chase, I can't slide them any further down this list. Chase is just too charming, and they're so good together, that I'm holding out hope that these crazy kids will make it.

4. Mouthicent or Millimouth?
Whatever their shipper name is, they're back! And Mouth is huge! I love that they could just have his first appearance be him as this fat guy, but he also had to have a foot long sandwich in his mouth. Classic chubby joke. Here's the real question, though: is Mouth really so dumb that he wouldn't pick up on Millie's hint about getting off the couch? He's smarter than that, right? Show some pride Marvin McFadden, and run a lap.

5. Clinn
As you already know, these two don't do it for me. If One Tree Hill has done one thing wrong, it's been the introduction and development of these characters. All of this stuff with Clay's problem is interesting, but it doesn't resonate when it has to do with these two. Maybe others have grown to love them, have you?

There were a lot of moving parts within "In the Room Where You Sleep," and it did a great job of keeping up the excitement that the premiere opened with.

What did you all think? What was your favorite moment from the episode? Where do you think Alex and Chase stand? What's Dan Scott really up to? And who tops your Relationship Rankings this week?

I pekcid up Blindfold game in a barns & Noble and just loved it until it came to an abrupt end that didn’t seem to fit. This hardcover copy ended four pages into chapter 22 on page 228. An internet search seems to suggest the book has more like 272 pages. My copy ended just as hugh and crew are coming on to the Star of Bali. Could this be correct? I loved it up till that point and will look for moresam

Clinn is definitely the most annoying couple. Quinn especially, I can't stand her character.
Good episode overall. Loveeeedd Bruliann!! Whats the deal with the sound studio?
More than anything I'm overjoyed with Chris Kellers return! Chuck was hilarious.

Oh, the look on Dans face when Nate left.. Not a good look. I'm scared he will do something irrational.. Mouth and Millie.. Don't care that much of them. All I have to say is, "loose some weight!"
Clay thing.. Why did he leave his prescription?! He said he would take them? Why do you have to make everything so hard Clay? Why? And FYI I love Clinn, they are perfect together, I think it has to be something if you're a James or Scott, you'll get a perfect love life.
I heard that Lucas and Peyton was coming back on the show. I don't see them!
This season is the last one, and it only has what ten or so episode in it? Get them fast! I bet they will come when some crisis happens, maybe that Dan has kidnapped Jamie and Lydia? Brooke and Julian, love them. Making this some short comment, all in all, good episode.

Clay is getting chunky. His character has always been obnoxious but at least before he was okay to look at! Now I just roll my eyes when we hear about his mysterious sleeping problem. Quinn is a beautiful, amazing character. I wish she could be more than just the scared, worried girlfriend! Dan is arranging for Nathan to get kidnapped or something. Nathan's not coming back so that's why Dan said to Jamie 'I'm not going anywhere'. Fat mouth is hilarious. I appreciate some comic relief :) I'm interested to see what happens with Chris Keller's character, how Chase reacts to Alex leaving, if Nathan does get hurt or kidnapped and I am beyond excited for Lucas's return!!

Good episode! McMillie is not doing it for me because their story lines are always inconsistent and messy. Julian was hilarious this episode! Him and Brooke are sooo cute. As Nathan is gone, I'd like Lucas & Haley to have a brief romance! I think they should bring back Rachel and have her and Chris Keller hook up! AND I do feel bad for Dan, but he seriously freaks me out a little. He gives wicked looks.

I agree with you couple ranking with the exception of Naley as #2. Nathan and Haley are the foundation of the show. I love B. Davis but her and Julian are a close second.
Clay and Quinn apart could be interesting but together they depress me. Clay is this hot guy (prev. he is looking a bit chunky) who is emotionally wounded if he was first portrayed to be this big womanizer which could have been fun, then they quickly yoked him to Quinn who randomly left her husband which so far is the most interesting thing about her.
Chase and Alex to me they are superfluous characters there is she still an actor b/c they made her out to be this big deal, now what is she?
I still love OTH but I have a problem that everyone is so happy, no one is scheming, accept for maybe Dan and possibly Chris Keller, and no one is hiding someone nuclear bomb secret that could threaten this idlyic life everyone has. Let's bring back Rachel and have her and Millie doing lines of coke on Wake Up Tree Hill. Or

I had a small epiphany while half asleep in the shower this morning. What if someone is stalking Naley and Jamie. Remember that shadow in the premiere trying to get in. And Dan found out about it or something and he and Chris Keller came back to protect them. Chris watching out for Haley at Red Bedroom and Dan in the house. A stalker in Tree Hill wouldn't be unusual. And the whole "WTF" moment at the beginning of the premiere can be totally about some stalker going after Naley. Haley could see Dan or Chris dead and if they came back to help her she might cry like that. Chase could have gotten arrested fighting to save Haley or Jamie. Julian could be getting beat up over them to and Brooke could be pissed about the whole thing and that's why she's trashing the place. Quinn and Clay idk how they would be in it but still. IT'S POSSIBLE!!!!

I think that Haley is being naive about Dan, he is up to something (as always !!). Nathan is reight to knick him to the curb. I do not feel worry for Dan at all.
I loved when Clay a Quinn were introduced to the show and then put together, but they are kinda dull right now.
Brook and Julian are so adorable together and with the kiddies. She deserves to be happy after all that has happened to her.
And I LOVE to hate Chris Keller!!

My relationship rankings:
#1: Clinn & Naley - can't choose. Both were great in this episode. I love Clinn, they're amazing! And love Quinn being so worried! Naley is great as always, don't think I need to explain!
#2: Brulian - like thim, first scene was funny. Wish we could see them in the more serious scenes already!
#3: Chalex - cute how Chase made Alex move in and said he loved her. Even though I don't completely love them. I did in 8x22, but I don't so much when they're just happy, like in last episode.
#4: Mouth/Millie - had to laugh when I saw Mouth fatter, hihi. I like them, but there wasn't that much, just the introduction of a fat Mouth. We'll see in the next episodes...

I'm happy that Naley got together in this episode, rather than being apart and on the phone. They're the heart of OTH now that Lucas and Peyton are gone (I'm so looking forward to Lucas coming back).
I love Julian for caring about Brooke so much. She's the runner up for my favorite character. She's been trough so much and deserves happiness, hope her parents won't screw this up.
As for Millimouth (haha, what a name), I like Mouth, don't like Millie.
Dan's creeping me out with that last look. At times, I feel for him. Although redemption should be offered as a choice, there are some things you can’t undo or fix. He's a devil and I can’t forgive him for killing Keith.
Clinn: I, too, have not grown to love them. They look great, they're great people: caring, loving, friendly and, sometimes, funny. But that's it. I really don't care about their storylines. I wish I did, tho.
Chuck and Chase made me laugh. Great chemistry. Hope we'll see more of them in the future.

Victoria: Of course they're okay. I've done this before ya know?
