Pilot Pickups: First Cut, Second Beauty and the Beast Remake

at .

With pilot pickup season in full swing, we have a couple new purchases to report:

  1. The CW has given the green light to First Cut, an hour-long drama/comedy courtesy of Gilmore Girls producer Jennie Snyder Urman. It centers on a young female doctor, described as "nerdy" in the official synopsis, who discovers that "life at the hospital where she works is no different than high school."
  2. Beast - which is actually the second pickup of a Beauty and the Beast remake, following one by The CW - outlined by ABC as “a fantastical reimagining of the classic fairy tale, set in a mythical, dangerous world wherein a beautiful and tough Princess discovers an unlikely connection with a mysterious beast.”

Among other pilots making news this month: 666 Park Ave. by ABC and programs on NBC that include vehicles for Jason Ritter and Roseanne Barr.
