The Vampire Diaries Round Table: "The New Deal"

at . Comments

Hmmm... did anything significant happen on the return of The Vampire Diaries this week? Our Round Table members might have a tough time coming up with topics for the first edition of this feature in 2012.

JUST KIDDING! Read on to see what Matt Richenthal, Steve Marsi and Dan Forcella have to say about "The New Deal" and all the crazy, sexy happenings that resulted from it...

What was your favorite scene from the episode?
Matt: The drink Damon and Klaus shared. I'm always a sucker for enemies that sort of respect each other, and also sort of need each other, so they can actually have regular, calm conversations that are never too far away from an all-out war. Keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Steve: I'll let the teenage girls in this panel swoon over the closing scene and point out some broader things I enjoyed from this well-written episode: Tyler differentiating siring and compulsion, and establishing a gray area in between; Seeing Klaus on the defensive for a change; Damon's increasing alcohol consumption and inner turmoi; Bon-Bon playing a (relatively) useful role.

Dan: We will get there in question five, but for me, it was the kiss. It was equal parts sweet and awesome.

Was Elena right to have Damon compel Jeremy?
Matt: A tough one. But... yes. It echoes what Damon told Stefan last season: truly loving someone means doing what's best for him/her, regardless of how that makes he/she view you. Elena was thinking solely of Jeremy's well-being and not of how angry he might get at her if he ever finds out what happened. That's real love.

Steve: She was. It's exactly the kind of decision a concerned sister would make. I just wonder what they told the family friends in Denver.

Dan: Yes, and if Jeremy leaves us for the rest of the season (or at least until the finale), I commend the writers for making such a realistic decision. There comes a point where it makes too much sense for a main character to just leave town, and that point has come for Jer Bear.

Where the heck was Caroline Forbes?!?
Matt: Probably hooking up with Matt in the alley behind The Grill. Sorry, Forwood fans. She's clearly moved on.

Steve: Maybe off with Eric Hochberger, who reportedly "forgot the Vampire Diaries was on" last night. More like boycotted it when he learned CF would not appear.

Dan: I'd rather not talk about it. I don't wanna shed any tears on my keyboard.

Should Elena have handed Rebekah over to Klaus?
Matt: Yes. She was taking up space in a basement that should clearly be turned into a game room at this point. Beer pong, anyone?!?

Dan: Sure. I don't think it could really hurt her cause in any way - Klaus is an a-hole that will do with Elena what he wants - but maybe it helps put her in the good graces of the king hybrid for awhile. Maybe it gives her a bit of time to help the Salvatore bros figure out how they're going to get rid of this and all the Originals.

Steve: Daniel makes a good point. Being stubborn or defiant isn't going to accomplish much when it comes to Klaus. Might as well give him what he wants, watch it play out and figure out her next move from there, while hopefully earning some degree of trust.

The Delena kiss: Ohhhh, yeah!!! or Ohhhh, no!!! ?
Matt: As I wrote in my review, the former reaction. I actually rolled my eyes when it first appeared as if this were just another tease (I get it. My brother's girl...), and then broke into a huge smile when Damon turned around in his brooding tracks and laid one on Elena.

Dan: A big Kool-Aid Man style "OHHHH YEEAAAHHH!!!!" I don't care what everyone says, I'm still holding out hope for these two kids. When Damon stated that he was going to have something to be guilty about, I fist pumped about as high as you can. What a stud.

Steve: I don't have a strong opinion about this scene. Sorry.

This episode was everything. I was in it from the beginning. When that hybrid was running after, I was like: "RUN ELENA, RUN!" The dude was creepy. Or after Klaus had called "someone" and that "someone" was Jeremy, I just knew it, when Jeremy put his phone away and acting like nothing. And oh, wait! What about just inviting Tyler inn to piss off Elena and Alaric, classic Jeremy. And that Bonnie was a bit more useful in this episode, I like it. And the slap. Wow, Elena has some spunk. And you know what? I'm pretty tired of Stefan being a a-hole, there I said it. He can make an exchange; Klaus get's his family and Stefan his conscious. That's one of the reasons why Stefan stole the coffins, right?

OMG, that was the longest hiatus EVER... Great episode, I loved it (not only because of the last scene). Favourite scene - obviously the kiss. I was like "yeah, finally!" :D other than that there was a lot of great scenes: Jer killing the hybrid dude (how awesome was that?), Elena slapping Stefan in the face, Elena telling Klaus that Rebekah knows what he did (nicely done and great timing, Elena!), Klaus almost shedding a tear over his sister's body... Compelling Jeremy was the right thing to do. Even if Klaus is no longer after him, the kid needs a break from all this. And we need a break from him too, I think. Handing Rebekah over to Klaus was the right thing to do as well. Nothing good ever comes from pissing that guy off. It's good to win a few points with him and buy your team some time. I only have one problem - how naive can Tyler be? What does he think "a warning" means?

It was the perfect moment for it to happen. Although some of us have wanted it to happen at so many ocassions, case and point their little moment in the mid-season finale. I reckon if it had happened any earlier the impact would have not been the same. Elena was a little awe-struck because she wanted him to kiss her and she liked it, that surprises he. Also another interesting point about the kiss is showed the key difference between Damon and Stefan. Although Stefan is sweet he is still capable of becoming like his inherent vampiric nature, but he does so in calm and collected, well thought manner. He lacks the impulse, the passion and the spontaneity of Damon. Lets face it Stefan would have never gone back and kissed her. Only Damon could, would and did go back and kiss her.

LOve this episode so much, I only hoped Elena kiss Damon instead of him kissing her. . .but still its such a good way to start the year for Delena. .

Ha !! I agree with the previous poster....when will stefan ever win a fight/scuffel against damon ?.Can somebody please tell me how many times damon has staked stefan thru the course of the show lol...what a little bitch,LESTAT would totally own him in a fight :p damon too haha

I really liked this episode. Love the bad boy Stefan, Bonnie helping him with the coffins, Alaric saving Jeremy, the Jyler friendship, and of course as a Delena shipper, the kiss. I'm going to miss Jer, didn't want him to leave, but I can kind of understand why it was done. Also surprised that he chopped off that hybrid's head! Whoa. Only problem; where was Caroline? Well, I can't wait for 'Our Town'!

@bored now, if you have so many negative thoughts about vampire diaries, why are you watching it?

Couldn't believe the erotic tension between Jeremy and Tyler! It was almost good as that that has been between Alaric and Damon.

fave moment : steffy asking elena to shut up #sthu lul

Delena is my favorite couple in Vampire Diaries, BUT I felt the kiss was lacklustering. He took her by surprise, but did not with me. There wasn't a whole lot of stuff happening to built up to that kiss. Maybe we'll see a better one. And I would feel cheated out if Elena gets together with Damon officially while Stefan is all crazy. I have no doubt Damon and Elena will get together at some point, but I would want it to be when Stefan is back and wants Elena, but she chooses Damon over him. So then we truly ahve both the guys wanting her but for one Damon wins that fight. That would be fair to me.

The Vampire Diaries Season 3 Episode 10 Quotes

I can't drink all this by myself. I mean, I can. But then someone is getting naked.

Elena: The Stefan that we know is gone.
Bonnie: How is Damon handling that?
Elena: Damon is... Damon.
