Love Dair. I wasn't actually watching Gossip Girl until the Dair romance started. The whole Chair relationship is one of the most immature and abusive relationships I've seen. The Dair relationship is one built on friendship and actual shared interests. I have no idea why people would keep rooting for an obviously messed up relationship vs one that's exciting, fresh and healthy. Can't people see Blair is actually happy and emotionally healthy when she's around Dan?! And for those rooting for Derena (like Blair, Dan always went a lil nutso when he was with Serena. I love Dair. It's exciting because it's more realistic to what actual love comes from. Derena and Chair offered cheap sex thrills. Dair offers the scary and thrilling awesomeness of real compatibility and love.
Definitely more interested in the show now!

I would have loved the Dan and Blair development if it wouldn't have pushed Chuck into that desperate book agent. I seriously just threw up. Really? Why??

First it's Jane Austen not Austin, so if you feel insulted that your favorite author is being associated to Dair, please, at least get the name of the author right.
Second, yes, the basis of Dair is indeed a Pride and Prejudice-inspired storyline (and not just Dair but MANY other relationships. Get to know your Austen, P and P is the inspiration of the modern chick flick. See Bridget Jones for example).The initial dislike? Check. The social circumstances keeping them apart?Check. Witty dialogue and debate?Check. Realization that they are not so different? Check.Everything is there. And who said anything about Dan being Darcy? If anything, Blair is Darcy while Dan is more of an Elizabeth.

OMG it's a real Gossip Girl episode again!!!! Real drama!!! Multiple plots advanced at the same time!!! What a great Valentine's Day present (even if it was the LAMEST party the show has ever thrown). Seriously, how is throwing a party were everybody dresses like their high school self any less lame than going to a high school party three years after you've graduated?

chuck and dan or the shipping isn't the problem why the show's rating is dipping maybe it's blair and the writers..because if you think about it season 3 up to now the main focus of the show is blair maybe the audience is having a blair overdose since all the stories revolve around her and the writers forgot that they still have serena, nate , dan, chuck to have their own separate story lines sometimes that doesn't necessarily have to be crossed with blair's. even georgina's SL is all about ruining blair..
PS i love blair but it's just the show has become the blair waldorf show

@PTY: To answer your question... no. I mean, not for me at least. When you are in love (at least on Dan's side) you don't really think about every single thing. I mean, I wouldn't. And when you have all these feeling bottled up inside, just bubbling and forcing to come out... eventually you'l explode. Wichever the context.
It's like when Chuck had sex with Blair while she was "in love" with Louis and about to marry him. She was cheating then too, remember? It's more or less the same. Just a contract, that's it. Had it been Chair tonight, you wouldn't read so many haters, would you?
I do agree that writers ARE indeed messing everything up and I DO enjoy your coments (even when you trash DAIR) because they are well constructed posts.

just admit it.....dair have chemistry. might be different from the chemistry that chair had but none the less it exists.
also and to those talking about ratings and how they'll drop after this epi and how chair are the only ones that can revive the show....well im sorry but maybe u should have started reviving your show when the ratings first started falling in season 3 when your beloved couple finally got together.
Dair FTW

No one is saying that Dan is a saint - that's what makes him real and adorable - he isn't free from making mistakes er...which of us is? But it is his right mix of - sometimes placing Blair's happiness above his own, at other times knowing when to put Blair in her place, sometimes supporting her crazy ideas , and at other times keeping her grounded, sometimes criticizing her and sometimes appreciating her but all the time just loving her - that makes him as close to an ideal mate as possible.
Yes, is he human - of course. And that means that, having controlled and repressed himself for so long, when the woman he so madly loves, is looking up at him and almost craving to be kissed - he finally does it - well, it just makes him more human and lovable. This is Gossip Girl - if you wanted to play the moral card - you should have done it FIVE seasons ago! :)

@Greta, Well, to honest there are some semblance of having a real life. After all, we are watching a show about Valentine's Day and I'm also wondering how it turned out well for anybody else? But that would be a bit stalkerish. Best stick to GG discussion in a GG review.
There was a term "Anti-shipper" being used in the TVD CW forums to differ people who watch for the show's entertainment factor while leaving the "Shippers" alone in their own mess.
Unfortunately, I'm one of those nutty shippers. So to discuss whether Dan crossed a line? I'm thinking along the lines of a Chair fan who says that Blair sometimes brings out the Dark side in her men. Crossing an invisible line seems natural for Blair's suitors.

I do wonder one thing, though, and I think I could get good answers from Dair fans because I noticed these are the hours when they post the most. Some say how come Dan used to be a morally strong character yet she kissed a married woman. Now that can be easily countered by the fact she is a loveless marriage, nevertheless it does raises an interesting point, since this fact certainly bothered his father (Rufus)? I wonder how Dair fans view this conflict, specially considering the father's opinion seems to differ from his son?

February 14th, 2012 1:49 AM
It speaks volumes about the strength and power of Dair that even with such limited romantic time together, Dair still has managed to capture the hearts and create such big fans - when compared to all the FIVE seasons of innumerable Chair romance to build up Chair supporters. IMO Chair was a flame, it burned bright and then it died a natural death - or it would have in the hands of a more realistic writing team! The fact that they didn't write off Chair when they should have, tells me that they will not continue writing Dair when they should...and that makes me :(...anyway as long as they give us some more Dair I don't mind :)

@Dair FTW
Yes, I love Dair because of their whole Pride and Prejudice vibe, which is the greatest romance novel of our times, on which were based many many of the subsequent love stories in later novels and chick flicks. That formula NEVER fails. And it screams endgame, had we lived in an entirely different dimension where the GG writers weren't so unpredictable.
@pty
I am also not digging the fact that they made Dair happen while she is married. But I never expected less. This show never cared about Louis or Blair's marriage (shown by her eloping with Chuck) so I'll take what Dair I can get. We all know it'll end soon :-(

Despite all, I'm not going to stop watching. I need to see this to the end, and I will continue supporting Chuck and Blair till the end. But I feel like something died inside of me tonight. It feels like the show dissmisses and throws away feelings right and left. Characters feelings, fans feelings, actors feelings, the author of the books feelings, anyone. And yet it's not doing anybody any good. When you read CNN and the Huffington Post saying the show should end already and it overstayed its welcome you know you are on red alert. This is the first show I have read many fans wanted it to end already and that was before tonight. I can't imagine what will happen tomorrow.

And you're entitled to that opinion! I like people admitting it instead of beating around the bush.
I'm sure many Chair fans would not have minded the crappiness of the show if it were Chair happening right now instead of Dair, just like we Dair shippers are happy about what we are getting (although Dair is really the only good thing with potential right now).
In any case, I'm also preparing myself for heartbreak because knowing the writers, it won't last.

After all they have showed with Chuck and Blair. After what they have showed us with Dan and Serena, even having the galls to teased us with them in this very same episode. This is what they come up with. In circumstances that can be called less than ideal (which are controversial at the least, for example the argument of Blair being married vs. the argument is a loveless marriage and she had already proved herself as a cheater in the pass, which btw sounds like "if she had cheated Louis with Chuck why can't she cheat Louis with Dan?", which is not pretty in my opinion). If I was a Dair fan, I would be insulted, yet again as a CB fan I guess I should be used to be insulted by now.
Dair FTW
February 14th, 2012 1:38 AM
@Kookakicha - you nailed it right there! Dair works not just because of the physical chemistry (and boy there's truck loads of that) but also because it's the classic love- born out of a mutual indifference, blossomed into a wonderful friendship and now is taking firm root as a deep, steadfast love. All Chair has in its favor is smoldering looks, husky tones and lingering kisses. Works for a high school romance no doubt. But for an all encompassing love, we need Dair. I guess Dair is just too evolved and strong for many Chair shippers to make sense of - some people find it difficult to understand something that is not just loud and blatant and in your face. The past dynamics of this show point towards the Chair endgame, but it will be a case of the writers not realizing how they squandered the potential they had with Dair.
