the only thing that really got me mad was when Jake and Faye hooked up. I am all for Cake (cassie and jake xD) so this made me really despise Jake. The only good thing is that Faye was just his back up

Cassie definitely hasn't gotten very adept at handling the responsibility behind her powers. She seems to invite danger into their lives at every turn, often because she's waaaay too trusting (hasn't anyone on this show ever heard of stranger danger).

Desperately want fewer Adam/Cassie/Jake scenes and more forward momentum. Some of the frustration stems from comparing this to 'Witness' - which was a series high - but geez, it sure seems like they want to snub any dramatic tension in favour of chaste teen romance. Our take: http://wp.me/p1VQBq-oa

While I do agree with most things that Carissa said, I can't stop but feel bad for Faye. I understand that her recent actions have been more than stupid, including her experiments with drugs that will probably get Melissa in trouble in the nearest future, but come on ... the girl really loves that damn Jake, who's using her as a doormat (or in the recent case, a bed sheet). Why do the writers need to make her look so pathetic? I think Fayke hookup was really hot, but on the big scale ... it's just another way to humiliate the supposedly bitchy character on the show.

I think the episode was ok, but 'Witness' was a lot better. Adam annoys me SO MUCH, he acts like Cassie's big brother/father figure. My Cake shipper heart broke a little because of this ep ! They were headed in a good direction, i do think it is a good thing that the show didn't just forget the fact that Jake did kill an innocent witch. Because if Cassie and Jake ever get serious, she must know about it. Anyway can't wait to see what happens next, but i reallllyyy ship Cake, hope there is still hope for them and that it's not all Adam/Cassie now :s :(

Carissa, agreed 100% with you. The scene with Cassie trying to be bad was awkward, and she does seem to be getting the circle in enough trouble. She's fixated on the medallion's powers.
And I'm glad I didn't read the books. Just because two characters "have chemistry" in the books does not mean it will translate to the screen. Adam and Cassie have a brother/sister vibe to me.

I like Faye and Jake together. They just seem to understand each other more. She is the first to always know what he is thinking and their scenes always make me laugh.

@Sa'ad702 The reason I said the psychic marked Dawn SO TO SPEAK was because by Dawn's tracking of the psychic left a physical slice on Dawn, similar to the slice we then saw on the psychic's neck.

@madison The Fayke hookup was a mere 20 second scene. It was in the recap instead of the review, but if it happens again, they'll definitely be a hot topic for TV Fanatic!

@hareinpa Struggling with book adaptations is very difficult when dealing with a TV series, because we have to look at them as separate for reviews.

Fate has it that Cassie is to lead the coven, but they just haven't done a good job on the show to prove her worth. She is self-centered and takes risks that put others in jeopardy. Faye does that, but I wonder if it's mostly because she's jealous of Cassie. Were they all closer and friendlier before Cassie's arrival? Maybe the books did a better job of making it all understandable, but last night just hit me that they would be better off without Cassie Blake.

also, i think jake is now gonna be anti-cassie, and use faye to try to get whatever it is he wants out of the circle, cassie is starting to push everyone away

  10. Adam

Adam does deserve better. He cares about Cassie and the only thing that she can thinka about is herself and her past. She does not even want to be bothered with anything else. She uses Adam as help and I dont think that is right. You know he has feelings for you so dont use him like that

  11. Shelby

okay..cassie is starting to annoy me...why wouldnt she be suspicious of someone who survived the fire that no one else did, why would she be so quick to trust that the medallion would be what kept them safe, she seems more interested in finding the truth out about her dad then whats best for the circle and its pretty clear that the dark magic is starting to consume her....alsoo, in the trailer for next week was that diana and adam kissing?!?! i did want him and cassie to get together but now i think i like the idea of him and diana working out again, but diana does seem a little needy when it comes to him....we shall see!

I thought the episode was quite strong.I figured the psychic was suspect. I liiked that we actually got to see melissa and that she has a semblance of a storyline. Cassie's addition to the circle mostly wreaking havoc on their lives is definitely noted.Everyone is kind of falling apart.I continue to like but continue to feel bad for Adam, but I do wish he'd tame the jealousy down a notch. He actually is the most responsible one of them all and Diana was right, he is the show's moral compass so to speak, but his puppy dog affection with Cassie makes no one take him seriously when they should. It was a sound episode and I felt like maybe they would venture out more into the others outside of Cassie. My biggest complaint is that the others tend to fall by the wayside for her sake.

I am curious, did they ever address how the circle (sans Cassie) discovered they were witches in the first place?

I am starting to lose sympathy for Cassie as well...the end scene was also cut too suddenly...how did they get their powers back if they finished the spell that was going to take them?

Carissa, how could you not address the OMG moment when Dawn was stabbed?! Did NOT see that coming at all!

  14. Heidi

I am becoming really impressed with Britt. Her acting skills have dramatically emproved. She looked pretty scary a few times in this episode. Besides the fact that it's showing how her family's past could potentially enfluence her, she looked purely evil at points, showing either her restraint or anger at the situation. I was blown away.

  15. sarah

This was a pretty good episode. I am still not loving this show but I will keep staying with it. I am interested in seeing Joe Lando!!!
I personally think Britt was way better on Life Unexpected...

  16. Madison

Normally I love your reviews but this one was really lacking. Your opening sentence mentions twists but then you spend most of the review complaining about Dawn's shopping and Britt Robertson's acting. Nothing on Charles, Ethan, the bonfire or the end scene. Smh(sigh) Looks like I'll have to fine another website that reviews TSC.

Carissa, The Secret Circle is loosely based upon a book series of the same name much like The Vampire Diaries. You should read it and may learn why there is a character named Cassie and why she is in town. I personally like the show and sometimes kids just don't know how to act. Britt was good in that one show she was in, but this may need more acting chops.

I loved this episode. My favorite part was the end when cassie realized the medallion was taking there power and she stopped and told Lucy she remembered the spell her father did and Lucy got scared and then Cassie did a spell and almost killed Lucy but didn't and just made her promise never to come back to chance harbor. I can't wait till we finally meet Blackwell it should be an amazing episode. The next episode looks amazing.

This show is a bit silly. Cassie didn't care much tonight about Adam's birthday now did she. I just don't like Adam. He's too holier than thou.
And I think the casting is bad...the actor just looks shifty all the time.

@ Carissa: Dawn marked Lucy not the other way around. Re read or ask someone to proof your post. It isn't the first time a TVF writer posted something with grammar and spelling errors.

Lastly, Cassie was meant to lead her coven. Jane said so if I am not mistaken and in the Book her grandmother also says that her family line is the strongest from all the witches. So she will be the leader at some point. The scene at the end was done too quickly. It didn't show whether Adam, Diana, Melissa or Faye got their powers back. Its silly that they left out such an important detail.

I'm glad Melissa was in this ep and was given some semblance of a story.

I am suprised Carissa that you didn't mention anything about the Jake and Faye hookup or as I am gonna call it: FayKe relationship.

I am not an editor or writer or reviewer, but I think you should spend more time reviewing the OMFG moments and not the over ripe bananas. Seriously.

Also yes, Diana made a cute speech at the party but really they are over. Diana needs to have someone who won't be caught up with another girl and they should really stay true to the book in one regard and that is build up a Cassie and Adam relationship. I will be a Cadam Shipper for all of the shows run.

The bananas were clearly bought by a crew member and they probably decided to not re shoot a silly scene. But clearly a certain reviewer had to knit pick on one idiotic detail.

Cassie is acting dumb and ridiculous esp believing that hack. But she doesn't know any better, none of them know anything at all. That's my criticism for the show is that the writers are making them run like cut fowls without anyone leading them or guiding them. This whole anarchy thing is dumb. Where the HELL is Jane? That is the question you TV Fanatic editors should be asking Kevin Williamson and Andrew Miller. Cassie needs her grandmother for guidance already!!!!

Ugh this ep was a filler ep for me but it was good just the same. FYI Carrisa Pavlica: The group was NEVER together in the first place. Cassie never split them up at all. There was Diana n Adam, Faye and Melissa with Nick floating in between. The rift was caused by Diana finding her BoS and 'holding' it over everyones head, Faye's in particular. They were friends when they were young but they grew up and changed. Cassie came to shake things up and probably ultimately bring them together.

Bring on badass cassie and her badass dad john blackwell!
