The Secret Circle Review: Daddy's Home!

at . Comments

"Return" may have been the best episode of The Secret Circle. Now that Cassie has a parental unit of some sort back in her life, she seems less annoying. It didn't take much for the change, so maybe she was being portrayed as a wayward teen without someone to love her. Whatever it was, I found her much more appealing tonight.

Before Daddy arrived, she thought she was moving back home and even got her first job at the local coffee shop. Adam taught her how to serve drinks but not how to serve them from the bottom of the glass. Dude! You grew up in a restaurant. Watching Cassie's fingertips on the lip of a glass may be a turn on, but not to other customers. Thankfully, that wasn't the only indication of how close Adam and Cassie are becoming.

Metting John Blackwell

When John showed up, he made it pretty clear that telling anyone was an absolute no-no. Cassie said straight up she would tell Adam whatever they talked about, but he didn't believe her and warned her to stay quiet anyway. It took Cassie about 15 seconds to defy this order. Another impressive moment from Cass. She's no longer thinking only of herself.

Everything wasn't perfect, of course. Even though John acted as though he was trying to protect Cassie, there is still something about the medallion that doesn't ring true. Any time the medallion was mentioned, a strange look brushed over his face. Because of it, the witch hunters were after her.

The circle came together to save both Cassie and John in the end, but the person John chose to confide in about his daughter, to ask to work together to protect Cassie, was Jake. Does that seem off to you? He did indicate that he and Eben had a long history, so maybe there is information he wants from Jake about either other hunters or Jake himself. Am I putting too much thought into it?

It was a pretty cool spell that Eben used on Cassie, but how would it work? She's basically proven herself to be close to indestructible, but she could be spelled by someone that easily? That was the weakest link in the hour, but it did provide a nice cozy fire in the middle of the snow covered forest, so it wasn't all bad.

Odds and Ends

  • Melissa was getting sucked up in to bad Juju world again with Lee's friend Callum. I'll be honest, I'm completely lost in the voodoo world. I don't know if Lee or Callum or both or neither is/are bad Juju themselves. Who is the chick in Lee's house with the IV? I thought it might be Heather Barnes, but this girl was younger, and it seemed that Lee was stealing power from her to give to Faye...  or the other way around? I need answers!
  • Joe Lando has held up very well. Cassie's dad is HOT. And no, not just when he was surrounded by flames.
  • The more I see them together, the more striking I find the father/son resemblance of Adam and Ethan. They did a hell of a casting job on that one.
  • For the first time, I felt as if the circle was acting as a unit. I don't know if the addition of one new character could really bring the circle closer, but it seems to have happened. It was also interesting that John didn't know Cassie's mother's generation had gotten their powers back. That should provide some for fun adult material, given the animosity between Ethan and John.
  • Maybe it was just remnants of Brian from The Nine Lives of Chloe King, but when Lee turned on the charm at the end and he and Faye started kissing? They brought more heat to The Secret Circle.

I think Fay is the other Blackwell child. Diana's grandmother said something like "I always knew how fond you were of John" to Dawn. Maybe Fay is more like her mother and that's why (in contrast to Cassie) she can't use her magic by herself.

They said the second Balckwell child is in the circle

Here is a thought. What if the second Blackwell girl is not someone in the circle? I mean so far Cassie is the only one who can do magic on her own. If her sister was someone in the circle wouldn't they be able to do magic on their own by now as well. What if Cassie's sister is Lee's girlfriend Eva.

I liked this episode of TSC more so then others in the past. I love Joe Lando as John Blackwell. He owns that roll. I am getting tired of the fact that almost every week Cassie has to be rescued like Elena on TVD. Cassie is supposed to have all this black magic within. I say it's time she learns to tap into and use it to rescue her self. Which brings we to my next complaint. I am also over the whole Cassie and Adam are meant to be together and it's written in the stars for them to be together. Adam thinks Cassie should not be using her dark powers and should rely on the circle's powers. BORING! I think Jake is the one who will let Cassie tap into those dark powers and help her learn to control them so she can use them to help the circle for a change. Besides Cassie and Adam are cute, But Cassie and Jake are HOT!

well, lately the writing for this show has become repetitive, lazyy writing and ultimately predictable,i cant bliv my least fave character is cassie, bcos she keeps getting, stupid every episode,She never sees to amaze me how stupid she can get every time.. when did secret circle become teenage romantic relationship drama?... This show needs to go back to its FOUNDATION which is about witches, making magic, abilities and other cool supernatural stuffs, and start developing them in the right way..get CREATIVE writers, and the views/ratings will the rate at this show is going now....i fear for its a huge TSC fan,am just not pleased with the show right now, just had to vent..sorry!

What if Lee lied to Faye and once he snapped the "doll" and kissed her he somehow transferred the energery to his "ex or current" girlfriend. I think Lee is trying to use Faye for her power for "good" by waking his girlfriend.

I will have to agree with most of the comments here and say that Cassie always needing to be rescued is getting annoying. She always gets herself in trouble, then everybody has to rescue her, and then she "saves the day" with her powerful dark magic.

Best episode yet! Can't wait for the next one.

This was a pretty good episode
I love Joe Lando! He was looking worse for the wear when he was on Melrose Place but he looks good now!! I also like Adam Harrington. I am not a teen and while I like shows like this I find that I think the dads are cuter than the Jake and Adam even though they are both not much younger than I am.
I really liked when they all came together as one to help out Casey, that was so awesome and we are reminder how powerful they are and what they can do when they all work together
The girl in the bed is obviously Lee's girlfriend and he is just using Faye's power to get her back as he knows that Faye is vulnerable even though she pretends to be tough

The parents have not gotten their power back. Did I miss something?
