The Vampire Diaries Review: Family Matters

at . Comments

I'm sorry. I'm still gonna need a minute...

I thought I'd be ready to write my review of "Bringing Out the Dead" by now. I thought my eyes had dried enough from the tears they shed over seeing Caroline Forbes lose her father - and that my heart had stopped racing from the shot of all Original family members standing side by side - but I was wrong. Talk amongst yourself for a few more moments please...

Klaus vs. Stefan

Okay. I think I can do it. But my goodness. The Vampire Diaries threw every conceivable emotion at us this week, didn't it?

Let's start with the raw pain of Caroline, who spent more time crying here than she did talking, proving once again that Candice Accola simply rocks and that even the strong veneer this character has built up since becoming a blood sucker is no match for the death of a parent. Especially not one as noble and loving as Bill Forbes.

You're strong, you're beautiful, you're good, he told his daughter before sacrificing himself for his beliefs, a truly impressive act. Can anyone out there comprehend doing such a thing? To not only die for your values, but to do so when you have it in your power to live... forever? Great work all around here by Accola and Jack Coleman as her father.

Elena came close to losing the person who has grown into her father, as well. Or at least her sort of unstable, funny uncle.

Alaric obviously isn't going anywhere, but he became the third council member to be staked, as The Vampire Diaries is making like Criminal Minds a bit these days - and I love it! It can be confusing sometimes to keep track of all the characters that come and go, all the yarns that are spun and new tales that are told. But, come on, who doesn't embrace a good ol' fashioned murder mystery?!?

Right now, there's only one real suspect, but no way is the killer Meredith Fell. At least not acting on her own. She'd have removed Alaric's ring before stabbing him, wouldn't she have? Not to mention that pesky alibi of surgery.

The bad doctor has to be involved in some way, but I say the culprit actually doing the evil deeds is someone we haven't met yet.

Then we come to the dinner every female viewer probably wished they could have attended. Elijah, Klaus, Damon, Stefan. Two sets of brothers, multiple sets of agendas, one thing in common: the shared love for a doppleganger. I didn't see that story abut Tatia coming. Can Nina Dobrev really take on a third role? (Or do we no longer count Katherine as a role any longer, just as a plot device?) When might we meet the original Petrova?

And what about that offer Klaus made to Stefan and Damon? He'll protect Elena forever? She can marry Matt, live a normal life? Granted, she should likely get a say in this plan, but what about it, Salvatores? If you truly love Elena - as you admitted to each other later in the episode - you must admit that you are not her safest options. She's better than both of you, right, Stefan? Doesn't she deserve to be free of this madness?

She compelled Jeremy for his own good. She did it out of love. Should the brother consider the same act now?

Finally, of course, we come to Mother Original. She was the leading contender to be inside that final coffin, but that didn't make the concluding scene any less memorable. Does she really want them all to be a family again? Can she truly forgive and forget? We don't really know the OW (Original Witch), but it's hard to believe she simply wants the family to live happily after in the house that Klaus built... right?

But that's a question for next week and beyond. For now, there's far to much to consider: Might Elena really end up with Matt? Who could Dr. Fell be working with? Did anyone else wish we had seen Klaus actually tell Elijah about their mother? And, seriously, is there anything sadder than watching Caroline cry?

I love the sceanwith Elaine and Caroline togather. Has anybody thought that Mat could be the killier. He hates vampires. And,that he got dumped by elaine and caroline for a vampire and a wearwolf. His sister became a vampire. He has more reason than anyone to be the killier. Also,I hope elane and damon will get to gather. Like make love.

just pretty darn fantastic..

I LOVE my Damon and Elena, but I think that maybe Elena needs to step back from both Stefan and Damon. I wish she would have a fling with Matt, considering the fact that he is the only real human male on the show other than Ric. This would show her that she doesn't fit in that world anymore and she could go forward with the best choice (ahem, Damon) with no qualms about the path that she's choosing.

Love every second of the short time we have this week with our favourite characters. I´m still thrilled about Elijahs commentary "you`re free to go.It`s family business". Klaus was so frigthened when i realized for a second that he will maybe end up alone. Awesome..
Forget some stupid commentary here, but when we all took a look back how this show started 2Years ago. Remember, Caroline the annoying cheerleader. Damon acting wihtout thinking about any consequences. Stefan not capable to figure out who he really is. And now, a storyline that caught me off guard week by week. And everytime when i read spoiler and think by myself oh no, at the end it make absolutly sense. Great..And to the lovetriangle, i think Damon will sacrifice his love to give Elena a chance living a human life..Great..i`m sure she will not give up the Salvatore.. And can we blame her for this..It`s Damon and Stefan i`m talkin about

This episode was definitely one of the better ones and I loved the return of Elijah and Rebecca. However, WTF is up with Stefan & Damon treating Bonnie like their servant, especially since she could probably pull a Willow on them at any time? And given the fact that she's Elena's best friend who has saved their ass on multiple occasions, I might have expected a little more than Damon's flippant "baby witch'' and "mama witch" comment, when they found her injured in the cave.

You have to realize that Bored Now Makes up stuff and pull bs out of her narrow ass to complain she doesnt have any strong arguments Anyways Love the episodes I love the way the show DOES NOT REVOLVE AROUND STEFAN,ELENA AND DAMON

Even tho I am not Elena's biggest fan, I kind of feel sorry for her being this doppelganger and understanding that this whole thing with her descendants also being in the hands of Klaus will never end. Its also kind of bad that all of them were sitting and just deciding on Elena's fate without her actually being there...and having no say

Another good episode. I was thrilled to see Elijah back in action! It was also wonderful seeing Damon and Stefan spend some time together. Not to mention watching them interact with the other dysfunctional brothers Klaus and Elijah. The love/hate relationship between Damon and Stefan is one of the most interesting aspects of the show. Having said that, Damon is my favorite character and I'm also a hard core Delena fan so I want Elena to ultimately choose Damon. But, I still like Stefan and enjoy his character. That's why Matt potentially becoming a love intrest for Elena is so annoying. This love triangle doesn't need to turn into a love quadrangle. The twist at the end with Klaus' mother was fantastic, and I can't wait to see what the immortals are going to do now that they're all reunited.

It drives me nuts too that she is a council member but has never been shown or mentioned before..

I'm not sure why everyone thinks either doppelganger would have the same fingerprints as Elena. Wouldn't their fingerprints still be unique as with identical twins? As for the killer, Matt doesn't take Vervain, does he? Couldn't he be compelled to kill these Council members? Question is, who would be doing the compelling? Klaus? If so, why? Are we going to get a new villain or is the OW more evil than the backstory lets on? Still have no idea what Meredith is up to or why she was never shown if she's been a Council member all along. Great episode, overall. I found it interesting that all four dinner guests have been in love with a Petrova at some point.
