Not necessarily. It could just as easily be a paradox. He read part of the constitution, but only had his same current reality to be able to determine that what he had read was in fact what the constitution actually says.
OR: he studied/read diligently the constitution at some or many points in his life (he is a law enforcement professional) and in a dream-like/hypnotic/narcotic state (depending on your theory as to what is really going on) was able to recall minute details otherwise buried in the deep recesses of his memory.
If indeed both realities are equally real, as in they are both possible timeline universes and he is bouncing between them somehow, well then we're talking about supernatural (sci-fi) stuff. And when you accept supernatural as an element, then all laws regarding what is real and what is not are suspect.

This isn't usually the kind of show that appeals to me, but I was really drawn in by it. I spent the whole hour trying to figure out which one was a dream...or if both were. At the end of the hour I still didn't know, but it makes me want to see more, and isn't that the mark of a successful show? Best thing on television since West Wing.

I still haven't seen the pilot, so I can't comment on the story but from what I've read so far, it sounds pretty good. The one comment that really bothers me though is this sentence:
What I can tell you is this is not a mythology driven show like Fringe or Lost. This is a show that is first and foremost a procedural."
Is that supposed to be "the good news"? "Don't worry, it's definitely not a show that requires you to switch on your brain or invest your emotions???"
The fact that mythology driven seriable shows have now become something that viewers are choosing to stay away from and that most viewers prefer watching procedural predictable, mindless crap over intelligent emotional character driven shows with strong mythology and a deep human connection that make you want to actually invest yourself a go along on a journey with characters who you come to know and love, just makes me sick.

This show is very creative and I just love the premiere. But just like all other shows like this one (with crime, distracting clues, etc) it is too predicable. Dr. Lee has mentioned that his alcohol blood level was high during the accident, but Britten says he never drank that night. This leads me to believe that either A. The Government is behind this somehow and is hiding it with this "car accident" and false alcohol blood levels. or B. Both of these "realities" are actually dreams and he is currently in an experiment involving dreams (or something brain related) for the government and the real reality is that both his son and wife are already dead. Or C. Britten is currently in a Coma (from the car accident) and all of this is a Dream and his wife and son are alive. Your move Awake!

This premiere was simply awesome! Totally up for digging into this one. Great acting, Love LAURA ALLEN!!!

Maybe I should give this another try. I watched half and turned the channel. I was under the impression both wife and son had died in the crash. After the first half I was to confused and gave up with no intention of watching again. After reading the above comments, will try again.

I fell in love in this show as soon as I started watching it! I also thought this show with this plot could be a movie, good thing it is for tv so it will be longer.

It wasn't confusing at all, and I liked how they made the two realities feel different.

I think the reality where his wife is alive is the dream. Dr. Evans made a good point about the Constitution. Also, I feel like Dr. Lee is Britten's subconscious telling him to stop dreaming the alternate reality.

Can't wait for the next episode!

What impressed me the most I think was how complete of a package episode one turned out to be. I feel like most new series spend a lot of time in season one discovering their own strengths and weaknesses before hitting their stride in season 2 or 3. This series seems to be off and running out of the gate with clearly defined, strong characters. Very impressive start!

Wow. Amazing. Kinda felt like a movie. Best premiere I've seen in awhile.
But I only got to see the first half of it... how did the murder/kidnapping end? I'm gonna have to catch the rest online.
I wouldn't be able to even try to guess which dream is the reality...
Wouldn't it be sad if he were in a coma? Wait, what if he IS in a coma, and this is his way to hold onto the last strand of life as his wife and son, STILL ALIVE, wait for him to wake up? That might be cool... Lol.

I thought it was enjoyable, but it's not a show I can watch every week, nor can I see it lasting. It's on NBC and quite frankly, unless the writers can find a way for it not to go crazy like Lost, then I don't predict it going very far.

I like it. Quantum superposition or delusion or it's all a dream. I hope Michael isn't really in a coma or dead. The cases weren't exciting but I guess that was the point for the premiere.

I didn't like the over promotion and repeated accolades because nothing lives up to hype.

Amazing premiere. Even more-so than the many questions about what's real, if I really care (like him), the cases, etc. - I was really blown away by the complexity of the emotions felt by the characters...

Also, did anyone notice that at the end of the ep. his son had gone from wearing green shirts (tennis match, etc.) to wearing a red shirt (a la wife's bracelet day), and that there was an Sriracha bottle (red sauce, green top) on the table? Mere Easter-eggs, or lingering clues????

    simply love love love it!!!!!!

Just watched the premiere! WOW! Very good show! What an amazing concept for a T.V. series! I can't tell which is his "real" side rather than the 'dream' side!! Whether it's the one with his wife and Dr. Lee or the one with his son and Dr. Evans! It is true that he sort of has an advantage of how to get closer to either Rex -(his son) or Hannah (his wife) based on what each other has said! I found it a little confusing at first until I figured out what was going on but I thought the green elastic on his wrist for Rex and the red for Hannah was a good way to keep track of things! Very interesting!
