This show is over. They can't save it. This episode sucked, the whole season has sucked, and I'm very sad about it. The actors even seem to be unable to make any of it convincing. I kept watching, hoping that they have something up their sleeve, but I've watched my last episode. I'm not a hater, I wanted it to continue, but the writing has killed it.

I must admit I always found it a bit odd that Alaric had apparently been attacked and stabbed in the kitchen and then made his way UPSTAIRS rather than go to the phone or a neighbours for help.
Are we to assume he stabbed himself then?
And Im still not sure I really understand that Doctor Lady. If she wants to help him why make him look guilty in the first place? Why that speech to Elena?

My take, the whole Sage thing seemed silly to me. I didn't see the real impact of showing Stefan killing someone on a blood high either, I mean everyone guessed that's how it came about right? Not rocket science. Again with the terrible hairstyles and my least favorite hats for all mankind, bowlers. Big mistake to take Alaric off the show, BIG, HUGE. Elena, give Matt a go (or Alaric which would be very enjoyable). Stefan, you need to call Katherine. Damon, just keep doing what you do.
What a great episode! Damon is my favourite character on the show, so of course I loved the flashback. It was great to see Matt actually having a storyline. I felt so bad for Alaric when he realized that he was the killer. And I'm worried because of what that means for Jeremy.
But what I loved most about the episode and what truly is the heart of the show for me: the Salvatore brothers. I loved every single scene with these two. I can never get tired of their interactions. And the best scene of the episode for me was when Damon told Stefan that he is going to be there for him, that he will help him with the recovery and that he is going to do that because Stefan is all that he has got left. That moved me to tears. At the end of the day no matter what happens Damon and Stefan love each other and that will never change. Go Team Salavatore!

Six generations of Gilbert madness traced back to the two rings, that is a pretty awesome twist.
The main problem I have with this episode has nothing to do with the substance of the episode itself but it's promotion. I was promoted as the Damon origin episode, and it really wasn't. How did he tame the crow? How did Samantha Gilbert's seduction take place? When did the fog come into play?
Damon and Stefan scenes were the BEST. So so good. Raw and emotional and the teaser about Elena finding Stefan in a "compromising" position was such the right word to use. Stefan looked so embarrassed and ashamed, and Damon's reaction was really funny.

I liked this ep a lot! It wasn't so action packed and it was more narrative than anything else but it was amazing!
Few things that were off for me:
They never really showed how Sage got Damon to be the Damon we love to hate. There was too much hype and it was just one scene.
I love Cassidy Freeman, she's a great actress and she was brilliant in her small role. Hope her role expands soon!
I kinda figured that Alaric was the killer, and that the ring is somehow involved.
I think Elena should end up with Matt. If she never wants to be a vampire, she should fall in love with Matt and let the Salvatore brothers go. She can't be with either of them cuz she loves them both.

AGREE with lboogie1582: it was AWFULLY CLOSE for Matt & Elena in Dr. Fell's closet, and even that awkward chat about love and other things in the kitchen. I really hope they don't add Matt to Elena's love list AGAIN!

I enjoyed the episode. I enjoy watching the dance between Stephan and Elena even though their characters have not been so close lately, the love is still there. I also like the relationship between Stephan and Damon. Damon has shown his caring side more and I like that he seems to really love his brother. I always knew it but it is nice to see once in a while. I will certainly miss Alaric if he is killed off, I really like his role. I am hoping that Klaus will return, with Jeremy missing and also Elijah we are starting to see some big gaps. I think the entire cast does a great job every week.

*Matt and Elena jogging*
"Oh, and Bonnie's mother decided to turn."
"Really? Too bad."
*Keeps jogging*
Am I the only one here who's stunned by the lack of Bonnie in the episode? Abby action? A Bennett, Bonnie's mother, which just decided to become a vampire, and we don't get to see it?!
Think this might actually be worse than Alaric becoming a serial killer overnight. Or, apparently he's been a serial killer for some time now, it was just off-screen. And nobody noticed a thing. Hm. Convenient. Almost as convenient as when Elijah couldn't recognize his mother's talisman that his sister had worn for 500 years.

I've been saying for ages that Alric keeps getting killed and its getting a tad ridiculous - I guess now we know why they kept killing him off!
I want to know more about Samantha Gilbert - what killed her so many times, that she went crazy? And when did Damon kill her? (Did that happen in the episode and I missed it?)
Never really been a fan of Matt much but I really liked him this episode - and moment there between E/M. I liked that she said a part of the reason why she loved Stefan was that she didn't have to be scared of loosing him to.
I miss Klaus.
I miss Klaus.

Definitely not my favorite episode and I agree with many posters that found this episode to be slow. I think that speaks very highly for VD that we expect so much from them and they almost deliver every single time. I do not think it was a “filler” episode; not every episode can be filled with action and scenes with Damon/Elena or Stefan/Elena. I liked the break that we were given of the triangle and am happy the flashbacks weren’t as present as in past episodes because I do not care for Sage at all. @bored now-you are entitled to your own opinion and while I find it annoying that you complain after every show, I am used to it. However, you cannot speak for me or an ENTIRE fan base for that matter. I am intrigued by the rings and always have been. Get over yourself!

QStefelena..is their nothing more than Stefan and Elena that is important for you?..I could read it week by week..How old are you?..Stefan needs to come clean with his dark side..The man Elena knows isn`t himself..It`s the man he want to be not the man he is..If Stelena is everything that matters to you than i`m very sorry for you..Even Julie Plec said that the brotherly love is the epic stuff..and after this ep i totally agree with her..Stelena couldn`t last forever..She don`t want to be a vamp and Stefan will always respect that..The love for his brother is made for eternity..
I think the only good part in this episode was the Alaric going mad thing. I couldn't care less about the rest of it. Makes you see how boring and empty it would be without Klaus or Caroline, yes?

OMG Bored Now you are such a loser. You really need to stop commenting. You are super pathetic being one of the first to comment on everything TVD when you claim to hate the show. Get a life and stop commenting on a show you don't like!!!!!!!!
I know Matt Davis will be leaving but since the ring is causing his "illness", if he removes it then he will get better. But I guess he does have to either turn himself in or flee town as he did murder people. I like Alaric and am sad that they are taking his character in this direction. I guess Elena is not meant to have a parental figure in her life.
That opens up the storyline to have Jeremy come back.
I did not miss Klaus.
I know that Michael Trevino and Steven McQueen were written out of the show for several episodes for storyline purposes but I would like to see them back on the show.
I think Elena and Matt will get back together, Julie Plec said that another love interest 'close to home' will come into the picture for Elena. I wonder what Caroline will think about that, yes Elena and Matt were together first and Caroline wants to be with Tyler but we all know Caroline loves Matt and if she was still human she would still be with him.
I loved every scene with Damon a

Matt Davis/Alaric has been cast as a lead in a new pilot. Of course, it is not picked up yet. The purpose of this episode is the RING. Plec is a genius. It is the killer. It possesses everyone that wears it. Wonder how Jeremy is doing?

I didn't really like this episode at all. Elena seeing Stefan that way was horrible and I felt soooo bad for him because he didn't want to do it and was trying so hard not to. Damon is basically forcing Stefan to drink blood and that's just not right. If Stefan wants to be on a bunny diet, then just let him be on a bunny diet. He needs Elena by his side to support him and that's how he can get over the addiction, not by Damon forcing him to drink human blood. I hope that Elena realizes that Damon made him do it in the next episode, cause Stefan was being good for so long.
Alaric being the killer is kind of silly but whatever, I guess they have to keep the show going somehow.

Really the same Stefan Im having trouble controlling my hunger for blood SL! This is the same recycled SL we keep getting over and over again! They couldn't have the brothers bond another way? Mean while this show completely misses out on showing us new SLs & showing us character development. We miss out on seeing how Abby handles her transition which could of taken a number of different directions! So once again we don't see what Bonnie is going through! This isn't the first time. We didn't see how she handed her grams dying. Twice Tyler leaves and we don't see what he's going through. How about Carolines father becoming a vampire and he has trouble controlling his blood urges & kills innocent people. To the point that he asks Caroline to put him in the torture chamber to try to help fix him. How ironic would that have been! TVDs Missed opportunities!

woman from the books.
Alaric! Poor guy :( All he wanted was to find his wife's killer and get on with his life but said Damon becomes his best friend, his wife ASKED to be turned in to a vampire and ABANDONED him, his gf forcibly becomes a vampire/sacrifice, he's getting killed at every turn, and now said killing is making him insane! They better make this right..ill be upset if they actually kill off Alaric :(

Anywho, I thought it was a decent epi though I am extremely disappointed with his they decided to portray Sage. I hope they bring more to her later on.
