American Idol Results: The Top 6 Are...

by at . Comments

With only five weeks left for American Idol, the competition is heating up for the remaining seven contestants.

Last night, they performed songs from "now" and "then." Now, the judges' save has been used, so, as Steven said in the intro, "there are no more safety nets."

Ordinarily two contestants would go home in the week after a save, but I think because of Jermaine Jones' premature departure, we're only losing one contestant tonight.

American Idol Top 7

Let's see what Jimmy had to say about last night's performances and find out who'll be leaving.

Joshua Ledet and Hollie Cavanagh are up first. Jimmy says Hollie came out of her shell last night, but he doesn't think "Son of a Preacher Man" will keep her out of the bottom three. If Joshua's going to be in the finale, all he has to do is stay consistent. Truth points, Jimmy. Hollie was better last night than she's been this entire time, but probably not good enough. Joshua, with every current song he's able to sing, grows on me because those songs help make him relevant.

Joshua is the first to be declared safe. Hollie is the first to head to the bottom three.

Season 8 winner Kris Allen is in the house performing his new single "The Vision of Love." It sounds exactly like what you'd expect a Kris Allen song to sound like. I think Colton Dixon is what would happen if Kris Allen and Adam Lambert had a baby.

Skylar Laine and Elise Testone take center stage with Ryan next. Jimmy thinks Elise fell flat with "Let's Get In On." Jimmy thinks she's headed to the bottom three. Jimmy calls Skylar "the little engine that could" and says she's the best performer in the competition. Elise isn't connecting with the audience and I'm not sure if it's because she won't let herself connect or if she's at a disadvantage because she's constantly compared to girls 12 to 13 years her junior. Either way, it's hurting her. Skylar, on the other hand, just keeps moving up. She's got the spunk and personality that Jessica and Hollie lack and she's relatable in a way the others aren't. That's working to her advantage.

Skylar's safe. Elise is in the bottom three.

LMFAO are here to perform "Sorry For Party Rockin'." If I didn't know better, I'd think they were a joke. Except I know they're a serious musical act which makes them silly and entertaining somehow. These guys are crazy! The thing about an act like this is that if THEY can make it in music, any of our remaining contestants can, too.

Phillip Phillips, Colton Dixon, and Jessica Sanchez hit the floor. Jimmy says he had a light go off last night--Jessica's singing songs that are too old for her. No, you don't say! He also said Phillip and Colton were on opposite ends last night with Phillip coming out the winner. While Phillip seemed like he could've written the Usher song himself, Jimmy hated everything about Colton's "Bad Romance" and had nothing to say about his rendition of "September." I think Colton did better last night than Jimmy gave him credit for, but no, "Bad Romance" wasn't his best. I think Phillip will be in the finale at this point.

Jessica's safe. So is Phillip. Colton's in the bottom three.

Elise is sent back to the couches which means either Hollie or Colton will be going home. After a commercial break, and after Kieran dims the lights, Ryan announces that Colton Dixon is going home. I didn't see this coming. Not this week. I think America got this one wrong.

For someone who never intended to audition, Colton Dixon had a great ride.

What do you think? Did the right contestant go home tonight? Who do you think should've gone home?

@steve yes I did see hollie bawling her eyes out, but regardless of who goes home the other person who was in the bottom 2 is always crying. Its a give in. I'm not saying they all don't care but that characteristic of Phillip to be in touch with his emotions makes him very appealing to viewers I think. Like I said he has soul and I think that fact will let him surpass others who are more technical singers than him.

Joshua to win, Colton was so uninteresting tonight, so not surprised it was his goodbye.
I am so fed up with Randys "dude" "Y'all" comments, speak English Randy, you are a grown man.

I thought Hollie should have gone out. She and Elise and in the bottom three every week, yet they keep coming back! I loved how Colton ended his run on Idol by telling everyone that he's a Christian. Inspiring. Note: I always get a kick out of when Ryan tells Kiren to dim the lights. Who is this Kiren person?

What I love about this show is that it lets the contestants grow, make mistakes, and learn from them. You can do good/great one week and be safe, and then the next week you can do ok/bad and be in the bottom three, and be sent home. To say that one person deserves to be eliminated before another is just rude! Everyone there deserves to win! The judges put them into the top 25! So they're there for the sames reason. Although it's the name of the game, no one deserves to be eliminated.

Okay, okay last post tonight... #xmeg816x: "...he was so upset about colton leaving. all the other contestants seemed like they could care less". Did you not see Hollie bawling her eyes out? These kids all love each other, it's so obvious to me. No one wants anyone to go home, ecept everyone wants to win and that something different completely.

One more thing Miranda... why isn't Elise in your poll? There were THREE people in the bottom 3, not 2. I would have sent Elise home before Colton. Just sayin'.... So sorry one more thing: "As a band director, my ears are constantly offended by the lack of intonation on the part of Hollie and Jessica...yadda yadda... Yes, they have pipes, but they aren't refined enough to go on without auto-tune ...yadda-yadda... purchase a tuning 5ths CD and learn what "in-tune" really is... yadda-yadda...hurting people ears": Holy crap what a load of rubbish! Why is a "virtuoso" like yourself even watching a show like this? You're just setting yourself up for disappointment!

I know that many people will disagree with what i'm saying but american idol is not just a singing competition its about who can be an american idol. who has the whole package and i'm sorry joshua jessica and holly don't have it. they are all good singers but they aren't likeable. i have never even watched a full performance by joshua. its like i get it you have a good voice but i want more. the other contestants including colton have it. that spark that makes you forgive a bad not here or there. phillip is my pick for a winner. he is the most likable person i have ever seen on this show and he is extremely talented. he has soul and i just sat smiling to myself during his usher performance. and did anyone Else see him tonight? he was so upset about colton leaving. all the other contestants seemed like they could care less. that moment sealed the deal in my head. philip for the win

Sorry guys... Hollie is still IN IT TO WIN IT! Hahaha... probably will be out next week. Well, I'm no band director (but I play one on TV), however the "pitch accuracy" on Hollie's version of Rolling in the Deep was pretty awesome on a very, very difficult raw song that exposes everything. Do yourself a favour and listen again. You want to hear nasty pitch? Watch an episode of The Voice. These 6 would blow them out of the water. Love Hollie but she will go soon... this show is NOT rigged, they live and die by the votes... case in point: Scotty McCreery. Puleeeeeze!

Terrie

It is crystal clear to me that this show IS and ALWAYS HAS BEEN RIGGED. You will not tell me Colton had less votes than Hollie with the women fan base he had and especially since this was the first time for him in the bottom three. He may not have had a good night last night but he's still better than Hollie. Yes, Hollie stepped it up last night BUT SHE STILL IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. She is not connecting with the auidence and can't get out of her head. She has a voice but she's JUST NOT READY. Everyone feels sorry for Hollie and now Jessica and that's why they are getting votes.....I don't think neither will make it to the finale.

Continued from last post: Josh and Philip have the best pitch awareness and Elise, as of late is also in that category. Skylar is nice at playing with it and good at making it sound like she's just bending in to the pitch. Skylar's issues is once again, yelling everything. Stop shouting at me and sing. I know this sounds hypocritical, but Josh can get by with his shouting. Gospel is based in the style of shout singing. Mix that with a bit of James Brown and it fits everything he does. Skylar is the best lady shouter on the stage. I'm going to be good with her for a long time. Elise is smoky. Let's get it on.... oh yeah. Randy made a good point and I think it was right on. Let it Breathe. I would love to hear her sing Son of a Preacher Man. Hollie murdered that song last night. I've always wanted that song sung at my funeral. After hearing Hollie though, not so much. It was a nightmare. Philip, just keep doing what you do and keep smiling. I'll buy your tracks on iTunes. Same to you Josh. Elise, keep being a great vocalist and just enjoy the ride. We'll enjoy it a lot more.
