Body of Proof Review: Who Suspects a Missing Brain?

by at . Comments

It was hard to believe that Body of Proof could ramp up more tension than last week's conclusion to the two-parter but "Mind Games" took Megan Hunt and her team to a whole new level.

It wasn't hard to believe that Megan's first case led to convicting a serial killer. She's always been an overachiever so why start out slow. And what a gruesome case it was.

Mind Games Season Finale

I didn't realize you could remove someone's entire brain through their nasal cavity. I still wish I didn't know. That is utterly disgusting but makes for a a compelling serial killer.

How many killer's mutilate their victims with a hook? It's certainly an underused weapon of choice. And, as Ethan said in one of the night's most memorable Body of Proof quotes ...

Ethan: Who suspects a missing brain? | permalink

Wilson Polley killed the women who either dumped him or turned him down. That there were only three on his list was the real surprise. He seemed like such a charmer.  Were there really only three that didn't succumb to his advances?

Speaking of charming, why do people send serial killer's fan mail? Where most of us are smart enough to run in the opposite direction, there are weirdos who want to get close to these psychopaths. There should really be some sort of watch list for these budding crazies.

The murder that reopened this case was really sad. The fact that she was killed the same way as her mother was horrible. That she was pledging some stupid sorority that drew circles on her non-existent body fat or made her run around commando for a week to get in was truly pathetic. Who would be a part of such nonsense other than bullies and girls with low self esteem? Sounds like a fun club.

But back to the case. Megan was certainly feeling the pressure. Kate automatically thought that Megan made a mistake because it had been her first case and that really got her riled up. Megan Hunt doesn't play to lose.

Her fight with Peter over Lacy was silly but predictable. Megan was already stressed and scared. She had to take it out on somebody and Peter was handy.

The one thing I missed in this episode was Curtis. I felt as though we hardly saw the big guy and I missed his humor and his giant teddy bear affection.

The moment I saw that Megan was alone in the office I knew Wilson was coming back for her. I also figured that he'd try to remove her brain while she was still alive. He had years of built up rage towards Megan so it made sense that he'd be extra cruel.

I wondered why Peter came back to look for Megan. Was he feeling guilty for being harsh with her before the party and did he think she wasn't coming because of him?

I loved the end where Megan shot Wilson and Peter threw him over the balcony. I don't blame Peter one bit. That man was evil and managed to find a way to kill even while in prison.

As Peter's life hangs in the balance, so does the show. Body of Proof has yet to be picked up for a third season and with it's ratings I'd say it has a 50/50 shot at it. If you're a fan you might want to contact ABC and let them know you'd like to see more Body of Proof.

If it does come back, do you think Peter will survive? My hope is that he does and he and Megan grow closer but we'll have to cross our fingers and wait and see.

While I agree I enjoy the show, I find it hard to see a 3rd season with the ratings. But, they do bring in a large number of overall viewers; it is too bad it skews so old in the demos.
I was impressed with the number of times I laughed at Bud's lines in this episode.
I too will dislike the series ending the way it did. I guess I just like closure and we sure didn't get that.
Maybe as a mid-season replacement with a limited number of episodes to clean things up would be an option for ABC?

If anyone is counting, please put this comment solidly on the side of RENEW Body of Proof. It's a good show, great characters that mesh well together and that encourage viewers to care about them. Personally, I don't miss Megan's ex-husband, and am sorry that Dani had to die to break up her and Peter, although I'm hoping that the third season will bring back 'that thing" between Peter and Megan that was touched upon in an episode a while back. For me, the point here is that television and other forms of entertainment are an escape and Body of Proof is a wonderful place to relax, acknowledge that there are some ugly edges to real life and that sometimes, the good guys do win, all without having to cope with real life. It's an escape from real life for the space of that hour and I really hope ABC lets my 'escape hatch' stay for another season.

Well, I really hope ABC does not cancel Body of Proof. I have really enjoyed it for the past season and a half. Sometimes a show needs at least three seasons to find an audience and build its ratings. Case in point; when Bones first aired, its ratings weren't nearly as high as they are now and it was constantly being shifted between time slots/days. But FOX gave the show a chance and by season three it was quite secure. I think that BOP has a lot going for it-there have been some very well done episodes, the acting is topnotch and I since I wasn't a fan of Desperate Housewives, I don't associate Dana Delaney with that role. I think she's doing a great job as "Megan Hunt". Sometimes the character can be very annoying and opinionated, but her heart is in the right place and she's always proves herself. So ABC, please give BOP another season. Don't leave it with us wondering what happens to Peter and the rest of the characters!

I must say that I really hope that this show survives. There are too few shows out there that mix the gruesome and the funny - Bones is definitely the front- runner in this category but BoP is certainly up there. Grey's Anatomy might as well start calling itself Days Of Our Lives as it has become a real soapy, and Criminal Minds has gone the complete other way, in that I can't watch it anymore because it keeps me awake nights. BoP is always a good watch that lets you really enjoy your TV time.
Sue-Ann, I respect your opinion, but Danni actually wasn't so wrong for Peter. She was definitely her own person, but at her core she was responsible and community minded and last I checked, that wasn't a bad thing for anyone to be. As for Peter, being Australian myself, he will always be Peter Baker from Home and Away, Dana Delaney will always be a Desperate Housewife (amongst other things), and Jeri Ryan will always be 7 of 9, but I am more than willing to forget all that for an enjoyable hour of TV that I don't have to think too hard about. Keep it coming, I say!!!

Second -- Essentially, this show never brought me to the point of the willing suspension of disbelief which a good book, a good movie, or a good television show should generate. The characters did not mesh. I too much saw most of them in previous roles with which I associate them, and too little saw them in this one. Good writing overcomes that. There was not enough here, and the show got better, but it really never got great. Two years is an adequate time to prove themselves. I like this show, but it should go away now. It is not good enough to stay.

First -- I am of two minds about this show and its survival. I don't consider it good enough to invest in the DVD's of the seasons when they are over, but I made a point of never missing it. I can see a lot of places where they are still very silly, like her shoes, and her clothes. Peter got involved with a seriously wrong female for him, and he consistently makes decisions which would have had me firing him, had he worked for me, back when I was a boss. The only thing I see in his favor is that he is drop dead gorgeous. Here's the thing about apologies, they don't come naturally to me.
