Grey's Anatomy Review: The Pressure Is On

at . Comments

One in five. Things are not looking too good for our residents right now.

"Moment of Truth” had the gang travel to San Francisco for their oral boards and, boy, did they bring along some baggage. Let's discuss.

Exam Time. Meredith, Jackson, Alex, Cristina and April. That’s five. That means one of these residents is most likely not passing their boards. Is it Alex, who didn’t make it to his exam in time? Meredith, who was fighting a stomach flu? Cristina, the robot, dealing with her failing marriage? April, dealing with her lost virginity? Or Jackson, who’s lucky pencil broke right before the exam?

Jackson Suits Up

First Time Hookups. Another city, another state of mind. April decided to do the deed with the ridiculously hot Jackson Avery. First of all, it’s about time. There has been some chemistry between these two for a while. Second, how could you let Jackson get out of your bed? April’s mistake was letting Avery leave after their little escapade. Nothing would relax me more than waking up to those beautiful eyes.

Jackson wasn’t the only Avery having some fun in San Fran. Catherine Avery showed up just in time to make Richard smile for the first time in too long. These two make a great pairing. Masters of medicine. Of course, theirs is the baggage that Richard’s wife is battling a disease and sleeping with another man. What to do?

Last Breath. Alex showed once again why he belongs in peds. He left San Fran to be by Morgan and Arizona’s side as they fought for Morgan’s baby’s life. Arizona said it best. She needs Alex to be her peds fellow, and so do we. I can’t imagine Seattle Grace without Alex “The Underdog” Karev.

Could a Morgan/Alex romance be brewing? We talked about this before but it seems to keep creeping back up. Alex deserves a real relationship with a woman who is not crazy. Could Morgan be the one? I wouldn’t hate it.

Get On the Bus

Kudos to Amanda Fuller for her heartfelt scene of losing her child. Extremely sad and emotional. Perfectly portrayed.

Friends? With Jackson out of the hospital, Mark spent his time chatting with Lexie. His “I need you” had me so excited, until I realized it was just for a case. Although it has been a long time since these two have been a couple, I still find myself rooting for them. What do you think? Do Sloan and Lexie belong together?

The scene between Lexie and big bro-in-law Derek was touching. Derek knows that Mark still cares about Lexie and vice versa. Time to play matchmaker, McDreamy!

After a verbal beat down from one Ms. Miranda Bailey, Teddy reached out to Owen in that sense of letting him know Cristina is ready for her test. To be honest, these two haven’t shared many scenes lately and I almost forgot they were fighting. Hopefully, they work it out. Owen is going to need a friend if Yang decides to head East for a new job.

BFFs. Once again, Meredith and Cristina proved who the heart and soul of this series is. The friends shared some quality time on the sides of Mer’s door. It was about time that Cristina admitted about Owen’s affair. Watching these two is more enjoyable than half the cases.

After Thoughts:

  • How cute was Zola in her bumble bee costume?
  • Who else thinks Jackson should wear a suit every day? Or nothing at all?
  • How hilarious was Jackson showing up at his mom’s room to find Webber? Not awkward at all.
Overall, a solid episode once again. There are only three episodes left of Season 8. Maybe only three episodes left with the original cast. So tell us what you think, TV Fanatics. Who will be the one, if any, to fail their boards? Is Alex going to be able to take his? Was the Jackson/April hookup hot or not?

Don’t forget to check back for the Grey’s Anatomy Round Table later in the week after you hit the comments and sound off. Until next time, Grey’s fans.

For all of you out there that say you are greys fans, how could all of you forgotten that April grew up on a farm in the Midwest, which is stereotypically heavily Christian? I mean, yeah, the Jesus reference seemed out of place, but knowing her upbringing, it kind of made sense. as for Richard and Catherine, Richard and Adele NEVER had a sex scene that long and involved because theirs was a mature and devoted love. I can't believe it took a situation like this for him to get such a scene. whoever said that out was kind of weird and like watching your parents, I agree. Weird move on the producers part, IMO. And I just love Mer and Cristina. They rock. Oh and one more thing, for everyone debating the whole Cristina and Owen thing: Shonda said at the beginning of the season that this relationship was going to go through some tough times, but Cristina had matured and there would likely be no divorce because they are all grown up now. Remember her saying that? It's just a very dramatic rough patch.

I think it was super cheesy how April freaks out and thinks Jesus hates her. Very childlike, however I am not shocked and I don't know why others are. April is a small town "good girl" who follows the rules and tries to be perfect. It's no surprise at all to me that she is religious. Besides she mentioned in the beginning to Owen about her mother's church praying for her and she was very worried and upset about disappointing them. Hmm still though come to think of it you'd think she'd mention it during the shooting when Clark was pointing a gun at her. Guess he hasn't been as vocal about it as say, bailey but still not a shock to me.

Thank you Kyrhyn. I agree with older people enjoying their sexuality but it was waaayy too long. I too felt like I needed to flush my eyes afterwards. Your comments about the possible misdirect is spot on I think. They've written this with direct leads that all of them could have failed and I really don't see any of them doing that. They're all prepared. Failing would be too obvious with lead-ins like these.

I loved the Mark/Lexie scenes! They still have so much chemistry everytime they have a scene together. The last Lexie scene where she was talking to Derek about Mark had me in tears! I've loved them from the beginning and they obviously still love each other that I hate everything that's happening to them!

i think its a misdirect. maybe catherine thinks alex failed because she was supposed to be his proctor and just doesn't realize he showed up late. @goldie-that's exactly how i felt about richard/catherine. at the same time, i think its important that the older generation's sexuality is acknowledged and accepted. but maybe the scene didn't need to go on as long. i mean, NONE of the main couples have sex scenes like that anymore and even april/avery's was a quarter as long. i felt like i needed to scrub my eyes.

Cole: you are not the only person who Owen and Cristina to get back together. I'm right there with you! Alex Roggio: I loved some of your story lines. Shonda, are you reading these blogs? Last: did anyone besides me find the sex between Webber and Catherine creepy? I felt like I was watching my parents. Yuck! Nothing erotic about that image.

@amberlynn I'm not saying she's not pregnant, because this is grey's anatomy and they do stupid storylines all the time. But it would be extremely unrealistic for a woman who was completely fine one day, to suddenly get such bad morning sickness that she throws up all morning and through the night, so much that she needs an iv. Even if she has that disease, which is not common, it's unlikely it didn't happen in her last pregnancy. Oh, and it just happens to be at the same time that her daughter has a stomach flu and the exact same symptoms. Come on!

Alex and Morgan are boring together. I think she was just brought on to show viewers that he belongs in peds. It would be awesome for an Alex and Izzie happy ending next season.

@ Doe-Rae-Me
April was the one who told Jackson to go. That whole situation was awkward for the both of them and I honestly think leaving was the right decision. That way April could sort out her feelings on her own.

I hope they bring Izzie back next season.

Grey's Anatomy Season 8 Episode 21 Quotes

They started off with such little promise, it's like I'm looking at a miracle.

The only thing between you and the rest of your career is a test in a random hotel in a random city with a random examiner asking you random questions. Nervous? You should be.
