David McCallum Signs Two-Year Extension With NCIS

at . Comments

David McCallum will return to NCIS for a 10th season next fall, and an 11th the year after that if the series continues on CBS. The original cast member agreed to a new, two-year contract this week.

McCallum is one of four original cast members whose contracts are up at the end of this season, along with Michael Weatherly, Pauley Perrette and Sean Murray (who joined during the first season).

During the quartet’s previous renegotiation two years ago, McCallum again was the first to reach a new agreement at the end of April. Talks with the other three stretched past the upfronts into June.

There is indication of that scenario happening again this year, with Weatherly, Perrette and Murray all in various stages of new negotiations. All ultimately re-signed then, of course, and are expected to again.

The rest of the cast, including leading man and executive producer Mark Harmon, is already under contract through the conclusion of NCIS Season 10, which was recently announced by CBS.

The Scottish-born McCallum, 78, has been a TV institution for decades, most notably in The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Sapphire & Steel, and now our beloved Dr. Donald "Ducky" Mallard on NCIS.

I just saw the season finale and started crying. had to google to see if there were any spoilers then found this so i was relieved but then a thought occured to me...what if he is in the next 2 seasons but only as like memories...like something we havent seen before that people are remebering? i hope im wrong. ducky is my fav...actually the only character i dont like is vance but ducky and abbey are my favs

I agree with all the comments. The Man from U.N.C.L.E. was such a smooth, classy show that I even had to buy the LP music from the show. I was a high school Junior when it first aired and it still holds up. I, too, hope all the cast signs their contracts and will continue for years to come. Gibbs' reference to Illya Kuriakan was great, especially for us Baby Boomers.

I was agast when I saw Ducky hit the sand. I literally screamed no! It's rare to find a good actor these days. NCIS has cast slap full of great actors, exspecially one such as David McCallum. I know it's not possible, yet I would love to see all the cast age well for many, many years to come.
Great show.

I loved the NCIS episode where Kate asks Gibbs "What did Ducky look like when he was young?" Gibbs replied "like Illya Kuriakan." Illya was always my Barbie doll's boyfriend. So glad he survives & I don't have to stop watching in protest.

Oh my gosh I almost fainted when I saw it last night. I love all the characters, especially Ducky. I was never around for his earliest work, but my parents filled me in. He is the reason I got started watching the show in the first place.I felt like crying for him when he got the word.

Soooooo glad "ducky" doesn't die. He helps make the show, all his "tactics". Have always liked him since his U.N.C.L.E days, other shows and as Judas in "Jesus of Nazareth". I certainly hope no one dies, but I was under the impression one of the characters would. I just can't get enough of NCIS.

So glad to know that Ducky doesn't die. Have had a crush on him since Man From U.N.C.L.E. also. Thought he was great then and still do. The team just wouldn't be the same without him. I could watch this show for years to come!!

Thks goodness! I was scared when no one was with ducky! Now the rest need to come back or it won't be the same!

Thanks for the info on David. I almost had a heart attack when Duckie collapsed. The show would not be the same without him. Who would befriend and advise Gibbs? I too fell in love with David on the Man from Uncle. My love for him hasn't faded. Love NCIS and can't wait for September. Your column was reassuring that Ducky will live and I can start breathing again.

I was so worried, after seeing the season finale. I rushed to my computer to check on season 10 and to be sure David McCallum would be back. I had a crush on him, when I was younger, watching the Man from U.N.C.L.E. So happy to see the show and all the cast, will continue. This is certainly the best show on any network. The entire cast seem to work so well together.

NCIS Quotes

Tony: One other question, I know you're an expert in English history. And I was just wondering, have you ever heard of Archibald Drummond, the 17th Earl of Trent?
Ducky: The Earl of Trent. No, I can't say I have. Why?
Tony: I was just wondering. Thanks.

McGee: All right. Well you should probably know that Abby and I used to date?
Bishop: Ew. Like, each other?
McGee: Yeah.
Bishop: Wait - isn't that a violation of rule 12, never date a....
McGee: It was a long time ago. After we'd broken up, one night I went to her lab. Found a scribbled piece paper; a list. Potential boyfriends had to fulfill certain conditions by a pre-arranged date or else, goodbye.
Bishop: Such as.
McGee: Things started off relatively normal: opening the door for her, flowers, putting the seat down. Then around number 8, it gets uh...
Bishop: What?
McGee: Does she know you have these?
Bishop: Does she know you have these?
McGee: Yeah she wasn't happy when she found out.
Bishop: These are all very specific.
McGee: Yeah.
Bishop: These ideas apply to you?
McGee: No those rules weren't in place when we were together. At least I don't think so.
Bishop: What's with the two month cutoff? Abby's sabotaging herself. I've seen stuff like this before. We have to talk to her.
