Fairly Legal Review: Running Into the Storm

by at . Comments

Kate, Kate, Kate. Just when I thought Kate Reed's life couldn't get more complicated, in "Kiss Me Kate" she found a way to make more of a mess of it.

After the smooch between Kate and Ben on last week's Fairly Legal, Kate was obviously reeling and Ben was seriously smitten.

I wasn't sure about Ben at the start of this season, but that besotted look on his face was damn cute. His whole face lit up when Kate agreed to their date.

Kate Works With Nicastro

Unfortunately, Kate Reed couldn't simply go to dinner with a guy who liked her. Her mind was in overdrive and fear drove her to make a bad decision as she literally jumped into bed with Justin.

Two weeks ago, I was still rooting for a reconciliation between Justin and Kate. I looked forward to them talking about what killed their marriage and why Justin had a one night stand. I'd hoped maybe they could find their way back to one another.

But this wasn't about forgiveness or love. It was about fear. Kate ran from the very idea of moving forward with Ben right back to her safe zone, Justin.

Poor Justin probably thought that their night together meant they had a chance despite their divorce but somehow I don't see that happening. Kate and Justin are so broken that I'm not even sure I want to see them try and fix it.

My heart ached for Ben. Not only did the guy get stood up via text message but then he ran around like a love struck fool trying to find her. He was completely crushed when Leo told him Kate had gone to see Justin and it slid downhill fast from there. He too ran back to his safe zone. For him it's the snarky, arrogant persona that cares about no one but himself.

It seems as though Kate Reed has made a mess of not only her own life but also the lives of the two men who care about her. The sad part was she was hurting herself all the more.

On the work front, Judge Nicastro was back and I was thrilled to see him again. His father/daughter relationship with Kate is always a joy to watch. The union dispute was intense but the highlight was seeing Nicastro protect Kate's honor and then Kate returning the favor by saving his job. These two make a good team and I hope to see more of it.

I couldn't figure out if I liked Lauren's artwork better with or without the pink paintball attack. With the firm in financial trouble, was a $50,000 painting really a smart investment?  I'm with Ben on this one as he says in this Fairly Legal quote:

I'd rather enjoy $50,000. | permalink

Yeah, no kidding.

I was a bit surprised that Justin sought out the kid. He's usually the law and order guy. I also expected Lauren to offer to be the kid's art benefactor at the end and was a bit disappointed we didn't get there.

So where do you think Kate goes from here? Are you team Justin or team Ben? Or should it simply be team Kate for a while? I've found my loyalties changing. How about you?

About your disappointment that Lauren didn't offer to become a benefactor to the street painter kid, Franco, that would be hard to do unless the kid decided to start painting in a legitimate medium--something other than the side of a building.... I've been on Team Ben since before he came along! It was very hard to watch Justin & Kate's devolving relationship in Season 1. I never had much hope for a full reconciliation. I mean, I like Justin; just not with Kate. She doesn't respect him enough, and he doesn't understand her. Contrast this with Ben, who demands respect and has an uncanny instinct for what Kate needs. He and Kate may not understand each other perfectly just yet, but their life paths seem to be converging, where Kate & Justin just keep diverging. Justin is now committed to being a public figure, where that's the last thing Kate wants....

I'm defiantly on team Ben. I love the way he looks at kate when she comes his way and I think she and ben should get together.

I tried to watch this show last season and just couldn't get into it. I turned it on by chance 4 episodes ago and I am totally hooked. Ben is completely adorable. I also love Leo. I hope the network renews for another year to give the show a chance to develop. The only person I'm not 100% sold on is Kate. She divorced Jason but hops back into bed with him at the drop of a hat. She needs to grow up big time.

Team Ben 110%! Kate and Justin are beyond broken and while they still care about each other, they just didn't work as a romantic pair, which is why they broke up in the first place. Ben is a good guy who's character is seriously developing and he's becoming one of my FAVORITE TV characters. Even in the beginning when he was just the "ambulance chasing" guy I thought he was hilarious, but now I LOVE HIM and I want Kate to be brave and move ON with Ben. In the beginning of the season she said she was "stuck" and should be "on her journey". It's clear to me that her journey should be with Ben. They challenge each other and are just so great to watch. Amazing chemistry! LOVE Ben and Kate!! Marianna - this show has not yet been renewed for Season 3 and is on the bubble. It all depends on how the last 3 episodes do ratings wise so get all your friends to watch, write USA, do whatever you can if you want a season 3 as bad as I do! More Ben and Kate pleeease! :)

I don't think that Kate and Ben should be together at all. He is one of the most annoying characters on TV. All they do is bicker, there is no chemistry between them and he is just obnoxious.

Team Ben all the way. There's just more chemistry between the Kate and Ben. I love watching the two of them together.

I thought Ben was just another pretty face at first, and I wasn't sure that I wanted them to take the story line to a Kate and Ben place because I really didn't like him that much. But I think that is the way they wanted us to feel.... That just underneath the surface is this awesome constantly evolving love-able vulnerable sweet romance worthy guy. Ben is awesome and totally and completely my type of guy making this my favorite tv romance at this time. I am team Ben all the way!

I stopped watching after a couple of shows with Ben --- he is a distraction. They cancel In P Lain Sight when they should have dumped Fairly Legal.
