Glee Review: This Is How You Do It

by at . Comments

Oh, Glee, I knew you had it in you! Last week, you had me longing for the show that was and this week, you reminded me that you're still that show. When you want to be.

Here, you gave me my characters back. And you didn't force a message down my throat like it was some sort of bad tasting medicine. In fact, there was no message at all! The smile on my face right now is as big as Rachel Berry's!

Finchel Prom Pic

"Prom-asaurus" was fun. It was light. It had good music. It almost made me forget how parts of this season have made me so very unhappy. It was a tribute to the characters and who they've become over the past three seasons.

Brittany S. Pearce is everyone's favorite not-so-dumb ditz. She picked "Dinosaurs" for the prom theme, declared war on hair gel and gave a performance that looked like something out of a Flintstones movie.

Rachel and Kurt were together again, planning the anti-prom after Finn agreed to help Quinn campaign for their titles as prom king and queen.

We got to learn about Blaine and just why he has such an affinity for hair products through gems like this:

How do you think I feel with Brittany's insane ban on hair gel? It's prom. There's gonna be balloons all over the place, not to mention the taffeta and the silk blends. The sheer amount of static electricity in that room is gonna be terrifying. You've never seen my hair without gel. It's baby-hair fine. I'm gonna look like Medusa! It's not funny. I don't want to go. (More Glee quotes here!)

Finn's the nice guy who loves his friends and his girlfriend and struggles with making them all happy but makes the right decision in the end.

Puck, who has always had a soft heart despite his hard exterior, escorted Becky Jackson to the prom and made her dreams come true with a cardboard crown. She returned the favor by helping him spike the punch.

Santana and Quinn, despite their mean girl tendencies, have grown up. Quinn walked again, just like she said she would.

I loved every minute of Brittany's silliness because it wasn't meant to be serious, including that crazy performance of "Dinosaur," which was definitely the most bizarre song I've heard on this show in a while.

Rachel was portrayed as a hurting teenager who is, for once, unsure of her future while the rest of the crew are shoring up their own. She's always been so sure of her life's path and now she's struggling with figuring it out. Her opening monologue made me remember what it was like to be a teenager whose hopes had just been crushed. Her shock at being crowned prom queen felt genuine, just like it should for her character, the proverbial underdog. At her core, she's still the same insecure girl she was at the show's beginning, just as Quinn will always have a touch of Queen Bee in her.

Finn's speech to Rachel and the other anti-prom attendees about how prom sucks without them and it's one of their last times to be together as a group worked. It made me remember what it felt like to be at my own prom with my own friends enjoying the end of high school.

Kurt is happy. Finn is happy. Rachel's happy. Puck's high school dream has come true and he has bested Coach Sylvester. Puck is happy. Even if he may not graduate.

Maybe I'm a big sap. I'm kind of okay with that. Tonight, for this week at least, I'm happy. Glee got back to its roots.

There were no PSAs. We didn't have three prominent story lines fighting for attention and being given equal weight despite their gravity not being equal.

There was just good, clean, character-driven story telling and I liked it.

What did you think of "Prom-asaurus"?

I'm really disliking Brittany and Santana. They both go around getting angry at people for bullying when in fact they are probably the two biggest bullies on this show. When Brittany told the prom committee girl that she was being a bully and that it would not be tolerated. Then she turns around and bans hair gel and tells Blaine she hates the way he looks. Seriously? That's just poor and careless writing.

Oh good grief! Okay, maybe Finn over did it a little trying to force Quinn to show that she could really walk, even if it was only shakily. Finn was mad because he felt he had been used. I would be mad too. Not sure I would have made as big a scene about it as he did, but I would have definitely been pissed. Everybody is so furious about what Finn did, but what about Quinn? She hid her ability to walk so that she could keep the sympathy vote for prom queen. Doesn't anyone find that just a little dispicable? And I'll never understand all the glowing admiration for Santana. Except for Brittany, she treats everyone else like dog**** 98% of the time. She's goes around like a spitting cobra trying to inflict the most emotional pain she can on everyone that crosses her path. Then once in a blue moon, she's nice - like when she helped Quinn out of the wheelchair and sang with her - and everyone thinks she is just the sweetest girl. Very strange. Is she supposed to be bipolar or something?

You seriously think Finn, the boy who was going to ASSAULT a girl in a wheelchair, is a nice guy and a good boyfriend? He's not a hero, he's wife-beater material.

...season finale where she is on the bus cheering and standing with Britany and Santana and then dancing at Nationals?! I did not realize temporary paralysis could be overcome that quickly through just a month of rehab. I mean with that aspect being so far beyond science and reason, why could they not take the same path with Artie and have him walk after a month of "grueling" rehab sessions. He was in a car accident too afterall. So, when it looked unsure where the writers would take Dianna's character in next season, it looks like they are going the Glee-way and wrapping up her storyline in a nice bow; allowing her to walk again, graduate, and go to Yale and maybe have a guest appearance or two in season 4 and that's it.

This episode was much better than it has been in months, but that really is not setting the bar very high. Overall, it did seem to get back to what everyone really enjoyed about the first season minus one thing that has everyone talking here...the issue with Finn and Quinn. First of all, everyone that is bashing Finn are way out of line, when I watched it last night, in no way, did I perceive that he was going to physically touch/hurt her in any way. He was very upset at seeing that she was able to stand and walk (albeit gingerly) and was using her "condition" as a means to become prom queen. I thought her self-esteem at this point was higher than that then to stoop to garnering a sympathy vote to win a popularity contest. Like last season, to put that much emphasis on such a petty thing in your life really does not show good character at all. Second, for those saying it will take a long time for her to be up and about again, obviously did not watch the preview for the season finale where she is on the bus cheering and standing with Britany and Santana and then dancing at Nationals?! Brittany was very funny in this episode, I also liked santana and quinn to I don't like finn its obvious that quinn couldn't really walk that good only like a couple of steps I like what she and santana did for rachel.

Finn basically did out santana he knew people was in the hallway while he was saying those things just like he knew people were watching him with quinn I don't like him I don't care if other people do I dont.

I know Finn is a nice guy trying to do the right thing and of course you can't expect him to be perfect. However, what he did was not good. Don't try to defend him. I'm not defending Quinn. She shouldn't have tried to get sympathy votes like that. But should she have been PHYSICALLY forced out of her chair by a GUY? Who is supposed to be the leader of the group? No. I get why he's mad. He was lied to and he could've spent that time with his girlfriend. I get it, who wouldn't be angry. But there were many other ways he could've handled it. For example, leave? Tell her he won't be her king because it's all a lie. Stop at telling her to get up or he won't dance with her?
Why did he feel the need to do what he did? It's not like Quinn was in a car accident or anything. Even if Quinn was fully recovered, it couldn't have been for a long time. When she got on stage, Santana held her friend the whole time. Show a little bit of respect. Finn acted as if she never needed a wheelchair. And if Joe hadn't interfered... It didn't look like Finn was letting up. And he didn't even apologize. Instead became prom king. Yet HE never had ANY problems using a wheelchair to get a job... Also, what was he doing in the ladies room anyway. Shouldn't a guy knock and wait outside, perhaps? All I'm saying is, Finn, in this particular episode, may not be a shining example of a good guy.

This Finn-hate is tiring. Finn didn't OUT Santana. I wish Santana's crazy fans will stop bashing Finn. Is it his mistake that a politician's daughter is around him when he said that? And he's 18 for God's sake, he got tired of the wall of bullying words Santana laid on him and he told her to be brave and get it on with Brit? And he forces Quinn off the chair? Quinn ADMITTED in the restroom that she will walk when she's crowned which of course made Finn think she can totally walk okay. I say Finn act as a perfect and mature guy.
This Finn-hate is SO irrelevant and boring.

Glee Season 3 Episode 19 Quotes

Brittany: "And finally, all hair gel has been banned from the prom."
Blaine: [laughing] "Right."
Brittany: "I'm actually not joking. Hair gel wasn't invented until 30 million years after the Paleolithic Stone Age. And frankly, I don't like the way you look. Therefore, anyone who shows up to the prom wearing hair gel will be turned away at the door."

"It's clear that the three of you are incompetent fools, possibly even some sort of terrorist cell. So, as president, I'm gonna decide what the prom theme is going to be this year. And I think that it should be...dinosaurs."
