Does anyone else think Zola might die? (I start to cry a little just thinking about it!) We haven't been set up for that in the least, but she's certainly a "beloved" character — and we could lose her without sacrificing any storylines or headlining stars. Plus, if Meredith and Derek lose Zola, they might decide to stay in Seattle with their "family," and some of their friends might decide to stay there, too.

First of all, I think it's gonna be Arizona. I originally thought the death was going to be April killing herself, but this plane crash has changed EVERYTHING.

Ok first off if it is 100% true and all original cast members are coming back then that only leaves mark, lexie, and Arizona. For some reason I'm thinking it is going to be April. But most likely I will be wrong and it will in fact be one of those 3. I think every one of those people have a decent part in greys. My take on April is she ran out of the bar and got hit by a car. It just seems like they are putting to much time in the plane crash to distract us. But like I said it will problaby be one of the fricken 3 :-(

I sense it will be April via suicide. Echoing the mental breakdown buildup, Shonda also quoted the following quote: "Be a Sadist. No matter how sweet and innocent your leading characters, make awful things happen to them —in order that the reader may see what they are made of."
And, a Huffington Post article said "...the quote was exactly what she needed to give her 'the courage to do what we’re doing in the finale.'"
I think the plane crash may be a red herring and that we will see a doctor left behind die, probably April. These doctors haven't dealt with the aftereffects of suicide, and the show hasn't really covered it at all, save for Teddy's patient and Ellis's failed attempt.
Of course, Lexie and Arizona would also have this effect on many characters. Can't wait to watch!

Reinforcing what Uh said, not only Arizona's death would open a position for Alex, but that leaves Callie partially alone with Sophia. Considering this, Mark has to be 100% not only father, but best friend, and that leaves him with no time for Julie, which eventually will lead to him and Lexie getting back together. On the other hand, after been so close to death, Cristina will reevaluate her decision and will stay in SG, and eventually retake her relationship with Owen. Meredith will stay because Cristina is staying, and Derek won't have a choice but to stay. There you have the 6 original cast members staying for on uture seasons of GA!

From everything I have read, it seems that Derek (Patrick Dempsey) will not be returning for season 9. So I am thinking that instead of breaking up the Meridith/Derek story, they will just kill him off (in the plane crash). Those are just my thoughts though....we shall see next week.

I have to agree. Lexie is one of Dmy favorite characters. I know she hasn't had to much screen time this season but I think that she bring fun humor to greys. Not only that there needs to be another grey. You never know how long the show is going to continue and they need her incase Ellen decides to leave at any point. This whole thing is just sad. I just want to find out who it is and get it over with. I'm pissed but like shonda said it is a drama. I just wish they wouldn't make such derastic changes :-(

out of all the possibilities of who it could be i would rather it be lexie. i tried to care about her character but i really don't, mark would come in second because i haven't cared about his storylines in a while, or april who i could care less about.

Anyway, something major has to happen in order for the docs to wind up staying in Seattle. Time to shake things up again. And if I'm wrong, the docs will have had another life altering experience together and be with brought closer by the loss of another one of their own.

I'm reading some of these comments and thinking did any of you watch the show. For that matter, did you just start watching it tonight. Arizona was in the plane tonight, and she didn't almost die in the car crash because she got out of the car and was calling for help for Callie. The actors who play Derek, Meredith, Cristina, Webber, Bailey and Alex were all renewed for next season, so that's out. Arizona's friend, not her brother, who by the way died years ago, is not a major character of the series and is set to die anyway. There's nothing they can do for him.
Izzie is gone. She’s not coming back. Get over it.
Now to my point. Lexie is the only logical choice to go. I guess she's somewhat of a beloved character by some. Her ties to Meredith, Derek, Mark, Alex and Jackson and others make her death all the more important. Can't really think of anyone else on the plane, barring the main characters, who’s death would hold that kind of value for the story of the show. Good rid

Not surprised at all and I don't think we have sceen the worst of it. They announced an hour ago Grey will be renewed and we know contracts were inked but that doesn't mean anything. The docs on the plane Mer was injured and yang told her derick was sucked out of the plane. We did see mark looking around the crash area. We know they are in BFE we know there will be a risky rescue. Maybe another plane crash that would suck the other docs on it or Webbed has a heart attach and dies I am sure Derick will be presumed dead. Lexie wasn't on the plane unless she was hidden in the luggage. Arizona was on the plane but I didn't see Callie. Btw Arizonas either died a few years back. I think this is just a small crack in the glass and it will shatter next week. Did. Only pick up on the.clues in the opening picki g up the two s for surgery and the tragic tail of things that happen to birds when the migrate. Now April has freaking out and more than likely off herself since there are more thanik

I did have the thought that the plane crash could be a red herring. Everyone in the plane survives and it is April who dies. She did leave the bar drunk so there's a possibility of an accident.

NOOOO! Nobody leave! I hope it brings them together as a team and nobody leaves for another hospital, and that we have five more years of Grey's Anatomy. Or that it morphs into another Lost. Grey's Anatomy/Lost hybrid would be my greatest fantasy come true. With Sawyer (Josh Holloway) and his twin (also played by Josh Holloway), maybe contractually obligated to be on camera, along with Jesse Williams (Avery), at least 10 minutes of every episode, shirtless. :)

I was bored and almost turned off TV then bam plane crash thought that's how they are keeping them... It's going to be major cuz they signed on for two more seasons so
It's going to be tragic like Arizona dying. Derrick having severe problems or Mer having loss of memory. Plus others being severely hurt an unable to be surgeons. Lexi dying will be boring she barely has a character. It's gonna be what no one is thinking because spoilers said never before and tragic. I bet Arizona and Derrick. I bet Mark has severe scarring and someone loses a hand or legs etc...

I was literally on the edge of my seat the entire hour - tonight's show was really great. Was it good-bye sex? Or was it "to get even" sex? Cristina goes to Owen twice & then leaves him. Of course, we were never led to believe anything but her leaving him & Seattle Grace would take place. They still can say a whole lot to each other with nothing much in dialogue. While I am happy that Cristina told Meredith she was going to speak to "her person" & it wasn't Meredith, I find that interesting seeing she was leaving Owen - why treat the husband you are about to leave as "your person" when ya never did before this time? And what about April? I felt so bad for her, she still joined the party even though she failed the boards & then Owen having to tell her there was no place there for her at the hospital next year. So many viewers don't like her, I do. Really felt bad for Owen - he got his ass kicked all day & having to erase his wife's name at the end just added
I think I'm going to be stressed out for the rest of the week until we find out who dies. I'm gonna be effing pissed if there is a cliffhanger and we won't find out until next year.
I have a really, really bad feeling it will be Lexie, who is my favorite chracter. And with my track record, shows always seem to like to kill off my favorite character.
Though Shonda said it is a beloved character, and even though Lexie is beloved to me, I know she is not as popular as the rest. If it was truly a beloved character and it IS someone on the plane that dies, it would almost make more sence if it was Arizona, because I think she is a very beloved character for a lot of people.
Shonda also said it was going to be a surprise, so it would actually make more sense if the death was someone not on the plane. I kind of see it happening where someone at the hospital dies. And in the end before the people on the plane crash cannot believe they all survived, only to find out someone else died.
I just really hope it is not Lexie. She really deserves a story line out side of the men she is dating.

Let's think about this logically for a minute, shall we.
Why would they set up Arizona with a dying friend in the hospital, only to leave the story line open by the end of the episode? Why would they have such intimate scenes with Arizona and Callie when there are so many other important things happening right now? Why would Callie say "I will never leave you" if there was absolutely no context for it?
This is what's going to happen:
• Arizona will be on the brink of death
• Callie will show up, obviously emotional but very much alive
• She will reiterate, "I will never leave you" in some way or another
• Arizona will die
This works on so many levels:
1. Jessica Capshaw's contract hasn't been renewed
2. Arizona is a "beloved character" with plenty of backstory
3. This would tie back to her dying friend at the hospital
4. This would open up a vacancy for Alex to fill at Seattle Grace
5. She basically looks fucked in the previews anyway, and they made a point of
