Whoever commented that this was a very "real" episode must have been watching a completely different show. I love Grey's, but seriously what are the odds of one small group of people going through bombs, drowning, skin cancer, death by bus, a shooting, terrible car crash and know a plane crash? Like none. The show does poke fun at this with the whole Mercy Death thing, but come on. I can accept everything but the plane crash. Shootings in public places are on the rise and car crashes happen everyday. But plane crashes are not happening everyday. I feel like the writers are trying too hard to come up with more extreme measures which only makes the show seem ridiculous. I'm not saying that Grey's is always believable. And what will they try and do for the next season finale? Have them all on a cruise ship that capsizes and they are forced to act out a pseudo-Lord of the Flies scenario as they await their rescue? I think that the writers should tone down on trying to one-up the past final

Worst episode ever. Bad writing, bad timing, and being a pilot, the worst crash scene I've seen in a movie. Did it ever occur to you people to talk for 5 minutes with an aviation specialist? Just some points:
    - A commercial flight in a jet without a copilot (banana airways?)
    - An emergency beacon not working (just designed for crashes).
    - No fire at all.
    - An airplane disappears from radar and not located in about 1 hour (controllers sleeping?)
    - No crash path in a forest (chopper pilot in daylight must be on autopilot and also sleeping)
    - Everybody at distance from the airplane, not attached or close to seats and still alive and walking
Hey, how about a bear in the forest in the next episode (or a predator or alien for that...)
    You have lost a fan.

SERIOUSLY! EVERYONE NEEDS TO GROW UP!! SERIOUSLY! OK, LEXIE GREY DIED. ITS SAD! BUT TO THREATEN AND SAY YOU ARE NOT GOING TO WATCH THE SHOW ANYMORE.... GROW THE HELL UP! RIGHT NOW!!

Yes, the ending of this season finale was missing something... but Shonda Rhimes had to work with what she had and new. Contracts for the original characters on the show did not happen until AFTER this episode was filmed! I think Shonda did a good job, and I beleive she will bring closure to this horrible plane crash, next season!

SHONDA RHIMES, I PRAISE YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUE WORK AND LOOK FORWARD TO GREY'S IN THE FALL :)

  4. Desi so loving this show

@felicia and @laurene i totaally agree with you both that was definitely not enough time for that episode and the fact that lexie died is unbelievable but i am in total shock how funny was it with cristina talking about her shoe and she was the only sane person and totally hard core those sccenes were totally gruesome and how sweetnof it was for arizona to calm mark down i just cant believe that it was only a hour

  5. V

By the way I doubt Lexie asked to be cut off cos Shonda said she took a risk with the finale and posted a quote on twitter about takings risks. Honestly, no matter how one looks at it there was no need to kill Lexie. Eevn if she asked to spend more time with her family she could have left just like Izzie. Speaking of Izzie, Lexie was sort of the filler for Izzie but now we have crazy April who will fall in love with Avery or better still with Mark #sigh

  6. Addizona

I wanted Lexie to get out since the minute she got in! So Im glad she is the one who died! =)

I love Grey's Anatomy and I'm not gonna leave it after 8 years just because of the death of a character that I really loved. I just don't understand why Shonda would kill off another character. Didn't she learn the repercussions of killing off George?
Also, I'm positive that Arizona might die too come next seasons opening. She was coughing up some pretty nasty blood and she didn't bring it up or tell anyone. I'm guessing she'll be a possible goner too. If so, Shonda is in for a shock with her viewers. I'm expecting some crazy Tweets for her.

  8. Maryam

Screw this! Never watching again. Killing Lexie off was a bad move.

  9. KB

@divalady963, Yes!!!! It's like it happened so fast you didn't have a chance to get sad because you knew it was coming, It just happened.... I was so shocked!!! I wasn't even paying attenion to what was happening after she died because I was so shocked.

  10. yoyoang

@divalady963 I had to laugh @ your comment about lexie not really being dead, because I kept saying that! Lol! Maybe she's not dead (completely forgetting that she is surrounded by some of the country's top surgeons....even though shonda seemed to forget that every plane has a flight plan & no one was contacted when their plane went off radar? And no one had their cell phones on them?)

  11. Carol

I cannot believe that some people can get too attached to fictional xters. If the actress asked to leave for personal reasons, they should be respected. but if you stop watching the show, then its a little over the top.

  12. divalady963

    Cont AGAIN.

I hope that if she isn't that they do hold a funeral for her or something. If she goes in silence (as she seemed to other than the fifteen seconds of grief), I will be unsatisfied.

I understand the ending leaving fates in the balance. I get the cliffhanger and always expect one. However, the show just cut off quickly and I did not enjoy the main death happening twenty minutes in and no one finding out about the crash until the very end.

Overall, I am very disappointed by the episode. It had such great potential, and was truly a letdown.

  13. Yoyoang

@scott tell that to colonel blake from M*A*S*H! No one knew he was being killed off!!
I don't think Lexie was the easiest way out. I think April, having failed her boards, or Alex with no personal attachments & no real reason to give a crap about his character were easier. I even think Arizona was easier, because she and Callie had that moment last week where she made Callie promise she wouldn't leave.
I did catch myself in a state of disbelief about Lexie because it happened so early in the episode....really, the only reason people were watching was to see who died..really, what was left to keep us interested?

  14. divalady963

    Cont.

However, it seemed like too much crammed into such a short hour. I honestly wasn't that interested especially since the scenes just felt short-lived (surrounded by commercials and SGMW scenes).

I did not care for the SGMW scenes at all. I knew under different circumstances I may have enjoyed Alex, Webber, and Callie. However, I was so distracted by the more disappointing scenes. I don't care for Jackson and April's dynamic. I don't care for Owen and Teddy. I don't care for Ben and Bailey. They do not interest me, but to each their own.

The first six minutes were the best by far. Everything went downhill and after Lexie's death, it flat-lined. After watching, I realized that the episode just felt strange and unusual. I don't feel like Lexie is dead, but if she isn't, that would be so unbelieveable since she is surrounded by doctors. Would I love for her to be alive? Yes. I hope that if she isn't that they do hold a funeral for her or something. If she goes in silence (as

Do I think this was a great episode? No, not at all. It was quite a let-down. Am I so angry that I will never watch again? No, but I am not really the type that feels that way ever. It definitely was strange, short, and under-whelming considering the hype the promos offered.

First of all: Lexie. I love her character. She is one of my favorites. I didn't think she would die because it seemed so blatantly obvious. It was very disappointing that she did, but I can understand it. What I don't really understand is that the most eventful moment of the episode (her death) was so rushed and so early. It would have been much better to leave it for the end with a build-up to her end. I was so shocked by the way that it was presented that I couldn't cry or do anything. I just felt like saying, "Huh? Did that really just happen?" And everything that occured afterwards (besides Mark's ailments) just felt stale and insignificant.

I enjoyed Christina's joking and the overall scenes at the plane

  16. eme

I agree with those who say this season was a little boring. So was the end. And i can't believe Lexie died just like that... like lunch at the hospital's cafeteria....

  17. Kayla

@Marisa1983, yes I thought the same, that's why I'm not upset about her death. She has 3 children. A boy and two girls and she mentioned once that one of them is special needs and one has a health condition I believe. So she might have asked to be let go from the show, so she could be with them and take care of them more often. Which is fine, nothing wrong with that at all. It's a good thing. I'm just not happy with the way she died.

I really didn't saw it coming for Lexie! She is lovely little Grey and one of the Reasons MerDEr should stay in Seattle! I don't know how they will pull of them staying now! maybe with derek being not a good surgeon anymore?!
But if I were Mer I would run from Seattle as fast as I can!

For killing Lexie! Now they have a spot free for April to take! I know how bad that sounds but it's a true story! :(

I really hopped they kill of Arizona or Mark! :(

  19. Diandra

What the heck is everyone complaining about? This was a great episode. Hello, think back to the last finale? This is why we all love Grey's Anatomy. BECAUSE of shocking finale's like this. Hello, the L-Vad wire being cut? Burke leaving? George dying? The shooting.

If people didn't love them so much, then Shonda wouldn't keep writing them.

Killing off Lexie was the best choice. She hasn't had any screen time and much like George did, her character became useless. Her death allows for many new story lines. Lexie and Mark did have their happy ending. They admitted their love to one another, and Lexie dies knowing she's happy. If you want to watch a show about real happy endings, please turn on the CW and watch nine seasons of one tree hill.

  20. mahala

Oh, and another thing. I know this is a drama and not everything turns out happy-smiley-perfect...but has everyone forgotten the concept of "escapism"? That word means nothing anymore. I can't even get what I want on a freaking T.V. show...

Once I get over this, I'll watch only the first five seasons of the show. At least I'll have M/L and everybody else too. No Mercy Westers and all that other crap. I'll be damned before I watch Mark become a sperm donor to his bisexual "best friend" again, or to watch Jackson/April stick their tongues down each others' throats so much as one more time. Geez.

  21. leyton

Sheperds i agree with almost everything you said! I actually laughed out loud at your bailey comment..because umm...yes i agree..who cares? I actually liked the owen cristina story though...it was good drama...but..i never liked owen that mucn.

  22. lane

i really dont get why would you put a 5 star rating to the episode which is as exciting as 2 stars tops?
this was really boring and unpredictable, surprising and whatever else is nothing about this episode. it was too obvious. i don't get what was Shonda talking about when saying that this episode was hard to write and discuss.. may be i watched the wrong finale? because it didnt really seem like one. And 2 seasons more if THIS? kidding?

Those of you who are saying you are never going to watch again because of one episode, need to CALM DOWN!! We all knew we would lose someone who was dear to the fans. Someone who had worked with Jackson quite a bit. We knew the Sloan, Mer, Derek, Cristina were safe. That left Arizona and Lexie. Seeing as Jackson did not work with Arizona that left Lexie.

I loved this episode! I was sad to see Lexie go but the scene was beautifully shot and acted. I will miss her character but i think it will be interesting to see how this effects Mark and Meredith. How will this effect the other characters by making them stay? Will Jackson stay for Mark? Will Derek stay for Mark?

So many questions need to be answered in the first episode next fall that I cant wait to see what happens!

Grey's knows how to get me with there finals and I love that about this show, the actors, the writers, and Shonda herself!

  24. Sam

I will not be back for season 9. This ending was over the top and they killed off Lexi (and basically deprived her of a decent storyline for the last year). What a shit situation for Mark.

The storyline revolves around Callie and her sexuality now. As interesting as it was for a while, it's not anymore.

This series went downhill when they started focusing on Katherine Heigl late season 2. Then the writing staff treated George horribly and destroyed his character.

    I'm just so disappointed.

  25. V

All this silly talk about one not being a true fan of a show if he/she stops watching GA or feeling the need to remind people it's a tv show with fictional characters is quite annoying. I believe we are all adults here and know this is a tv show. We get emotionally invested in certain characters and that translates to ratings+revenue for the show and the parties involved so excuse those of us who are upset with the finale. Lexie's death was unnecessary in my opinion especially if that was to leave room for kepner to stay back in SGMW. For sure some people will quit watching while some people will stick around to see how it ends but no one has the right to chastise or call out anyone for leaving the show. Horrid finale.
