Grey's Anatomy Round Table: "Let the Bad Times Roll"

Welcome back to TV Fanatic's Grey's Anatomy Round Table!

Our official Grey's Anatomy review broke down last week's episode, "Let the Bad Times Roll," in great detail. Now, TV Fanatic staff members Courtney Morrison, Sean McKenna and Christina Tran have assembled for their weekly Q&A discussion to further debate and dissect the goings on at Seattle Grace/Mercy West.

Read their answers below and weigh in with yours!

1. April Kepner failed the boards. Surprised? Excited? What’s next for this character?

Courtney: April is going to have to do another year of residency and take her test next year. She is too committed to leave the program now. I wasn't too surprised and I hate to admit it, but I was kind of excited that it was her and not any of the others.

Christina: How about totally predictable? I wasn’t particularly excited by any means, but I was glad that it was her. I’ve never cared all too much for April. As for what’s next, I imagine a pregnancy scare and/or April doing what she does best - drowning herself in her own sorrows.

Sean: I agree that it was kind of predictable. She's kind of become the character that the writers can make bad or crazy things happen for some dramatic moment, while leaving the other characters on normal story arcs. She's just inconsistent and whatever happens to her, isn't really on the top of my list.

2. Who had the worst interview situation?

Courtney: Meredith! Poor girl was getting sick and still delivering awesome answers. You got to give her credit for never losing focus!

Christina: Alex. After missing his first session, he had to totally step it up and basically be nothing but perfect.

Sean: I thought they all really had difficult times, but Cristina got stuck with Mr. Feeny from Boy Meets World. I almost thought he might fail her because of her attitude.

3. Lexie poured her heart out to Mark. Will he come back to her or is he going to start a family with Julia?

Courtney: Lexie all the way! Julia seems like a perfectly nice character, but we don't really know her. That makes me not care about her at all. Sure, she may be a better fit for Mark in some ways but you can't help who you love. I'm guessing Mark and Lexie hook up before seasons end.

Christina: As a total Slexie fan, I want nothing more than for Mark and Lexie to end up together. I get that nothing comes easy, especially for any of Shonda’s characters; however, I’m tired of waiting for something to happen between these two. I just hope Mark makes his decision before season’s end.

Sean: He's not going to start a family with Julia. That being said Mark and Lexie need to really decide if they want to be together or not, because I don't know if I can take Lexie being mopey all next season.

4. Catherine and Webber decide the timing is not right but make plans to get together at the next conference. Should these two work it out? How about making Catherine Avery a regular on the show?

Courtney: I love them! Webber needs something to make him smile after all the hard times he has had. I wouldn't mind seeing Mama Avery more regularly. It could definitely make for some fun scenes with Jackson.

Christina: No, they shouldn’t work it out… at least not anytime soon, anyway. Based on my response, you should know how I feel about the second question. Besides, there are already way too many regulars.

Sean: No thanks. I don't mind her appearing every once in a while, but the cast that we have works just fine. As for the two of them together? I'd rather them wait a bit before coming together again.

5. Meredith, Alex, Jackson, and Cristina passed the boards. Who is going to leave Seattle Grace for another hospital?

Courtney: None of them! Mer has a family and a husband who has a job in Seattle. Alex loves working with Arizona. Jackson wants to learn from Sloan and continue the hottest bromance ever, and Cristina won't leave her person. If anyone is absolutely going to go, it will be Jackson or Cristina.

Christina: Jackson! Maybe he can take April with him.

Sean: Good question but no idea. I want to say none of them? Although, there's always a possibility that one of them will go based on the actors' contracts. Whoever it is, if they go, I hope they get a good send off rather than something abrupt.

1. I'm not surprised at all the she failed. i feel sorry for her though, i love her annoyingly funny character. i think this going to be an eye opener for her to let loose and be a more likable character.
2.Alex's. his interviewers were mean and he almost failed.
3. of course SLEXIE all the way!
4. I think making Catherine Avery a regular and a doctor in SGMW will be a great addition to the show.
5.i think no one will leave the hospital. mer has a family in seattle, cristina will work out her marriage and she cant leave her person, i think alex will stay, and jackson will too.

I wish my comments would quit getting cut off. Anyway, I think it's a toss up between Alex and Meredith of who had the worst interview situation. When I'm sick like that, the constant puking? I can't do anything, I'm out of my head and bordering on passing out, as I experienced with that awful virus that was going around a few months ago. I'd say, physically, Meredith. She had it worse. It's a wonder she didn't pass out.

Mark just has to choose Lexie, he still loves her. He does not love Julia, he just likes the convenience she provides, like what Rose did for Derek. We barely know this Julia person, I don't want to see her with Mark. I don't expect Mark/Lexie to be happy-smiley-perfect all the time, but enough is enough, I'm tired of them being written as a disappointing and halfhearted afterthought. Get them back together already, and give them a substantial story-line as well, instead of giving scenes to lesser, irrelevant characters like Jackson/April/Teddy. They need to go or either April or Teddy can stay and get together with Alex, otherwise they have no relevance to this show and take up screen time from the more important, relevant characters. There's just too many and I hate to imagine who's going to be gone that we actually do like in the finale. Couldn't they do what they did in the season six finale, when they mercifully got rid of Reed and Charles? J.A.T. are such a drag. It's a toss up between Meredith and Alex regarding who had the worse interview situation. When I'm sick like that I can't do anything. Luckily Meredith had Cristina in the next room and she tried to help her with all those medical "goodies".

No to Catherine Avery as a regular on the show. There are indeed too many people, the lesser ones like J.A.T. getting too much screen time, on there now. I hope Meredith, Cristina, and Alex don't leave. If the actors themselves actually stay on the show for next season but one of the characters leaves Seattle Grace for somewhere else, it's going to be hard to imagine how it's going to be pulled off, and we'll lose even more of that element of what made us love the show to start with. It's bad enough we lost George and Izzie, but to see the remaining original three be split up, especially Cristina and's just not a very nice thing to picture. I don't know who actually will leave though... I thought April shouldn't pass, but I'm surprised that the writer's did indeed not let her pass; some times the writers can be annoying about things, I was prepared to see any of the others not to pass just because. But yeah, I'm glad April didn't pass, acting like that. I wish she would go elsewhere and Jackson would go along. I like Sarah Drew but April is now turning overkill. She can be endearing, but her behavior as of late has not been so. Oh and saying Jesus "hates her" now? I find that to be insulting as a fellow follower of Christ, as He hates no one. True Christians should know that. Stupid bit of dialogue...she needs to have a talk with Miranda Bailey, she'd set things right.

I think it will all come down to the contracts. It makes no sense for the actors to leave (let's face it, what they're doing now is what they are known for) but that doesn't mean that we won't lose somebody.
I think the fact that Lexie has done almost nothing this year is a sign that the producers have been waiting for the shoe to drop with Meredith. If Pompeo leaves, they could use a Grey.
Even if she and Dempsey stay, the show itself is getting very stable. MerDer is about as exciting couple-wise and Calzona. That is to say, things are rather dull between them. On the other hand, they could create a triangle or maybe even a parallelogram or hexagon around Lexie. Have Jackson, Mark, Julia and maybe someone else in a nice fighting mix that could keep our interest for another few seasons.
Why not? Also, if April remains, does she still get to be chief resident?

Cristina, it seems so because of all the other jobs she is considering she may leave seattle grace but not the show...

I think Sandra Oh is gonna stay, but IDK how they r gonna make Christina stay...
Derik's staying, so's Mer. Maybe not Alex tho.
Avery & april r gonna stay (together??)
