I actually think the mysterious call is going to be coming from Nathan's son i dont remember his name. Early in the series he wanted to know more about his father's work and thus i think he will be the one behind the loose end his dad left. I think Nathan envisioned his son watching over the machine if anything were to happen. TJ i think this will be what we see next. Would like to see Reese find a romance possibly Zoe!! cant wait for season 2!

Finally a network gets it right and supports a show with deep and broad potential. Great writing and directing. Actors are perfect together. Love the understated, focused acting style of Jim Caviezel. Now if CBS can just resist the urge to short sheet, fix, or outright cancel a winner like so many great TV shows have been by networks.

I think the machine made the phone call and just did what it does... give a new number. Reese is going to rescue Finish by investigation and muscle power without machine help.

Amazing season finale!
This show gets better and better every week. Started watching from the get go simply because it looked similar to the Jason Bourne Trilogy (which I love) but as the season went on, the story become more and more in depth. It has become far more than a simple Ex-CIA agent beats the crap out of the bad guy. Can't wait for season two. September can't get here fast enough.
BTW - I think the mysterious phone call at the end of the finale was Nathan. A couple of episodes ago, it showed him creating a back door to the machine to prevent it from being abused. I don't think he is dead, he is actually the guy behind the scenes pulling all the strings.
Come on TVFanatic. POI deserves a round table. Even shitty shows have them.

I loved "Person of Interest," from the start tho expecting it to be boring and predictable after a fasion. Surprise was on me - I always think I know where the show is heading - then there's a twist at the end that I never see coming. It's brilliant.
The machine bugs me - for instance it will spit out some abused woman that Reese has to save. Why with millions of women being abused, is this one special?
I watch only two tv shows a week POI and Mentalist. What will I do till September - ooh I hope not housework.

I believe the last call was to Nathan and believe he isn't dead. Nothing has been mentioned about his death so far, and he might be in hiding because of the power that the machine possesses.
POI is simply the best new show of the this season. Enjoy every episode.

Fantastic finale!
@Marge...I agree there is great chemistry between Carter and Reese. I don't even think it's sexual but he has an immense respect, trust, and reverence for her that's inexplicable and he's very protective of her in a way that he isn't with just anyone. It's like he sees something in her that outsiders aren't privy to. I find it intriguing. So glad she and Fusco ended up learning the truth. They at tines have a really strong partnership and it can only get better now.I called the Root shrink thing ten minutes in but it was still a great reveal. Loved that Reese looked genuinely concerned about how things were turning out.can't wait for next season...the gang are all on board and will hopefully will ban together to help their mutual friend's mutual friend.

This is my favorite show ever in TV history. I just love JC, Emerson and Naraji Henson. Excellent acting by all and each plays the character to perfection. I hope Zoe goes away. The phone call at the end to Reese was from Root. But we'll have to wait and see.

Did you say Reese was happy to see Zoe? Were we watching the same finale? There is no chemistry between the two. There is however great chemistry between Reese and Carter. Go back and watch the shows and see if you can find the hints of the stage being set for a "relationship" between Reese and carter--which will possible take place at the shows end,

I believe Alicia's coming into the show and then being killed off had more to do with the warning she had for Finch about him needing to be glad that she found him first. I interpret that as bigger threats that we haven't even heard of yet. It is so hard to speculate on the direction that S2 may take. So many reviews pointing to even more possibilities.
In my opinion, best show ever. Even with so many other great shows out there, this is my pick for greatest show of 2011-2012. Keep up the great work cast, crew, writers, producers, etc.

Best season finale EVER! (and I am an X-Files fan.)
Best new show of 2011-2012 season.
The writers and the cast deserve accolades; just fantastic the way they maintained the tension and humor all season.
Great choice of Amy Acker as Root....(Remembering her in Angel, Alias, and Grimm)
Great choice of Paige Turco, whom I remember from American Gothic.
thank you cast and crew for a great season.

People, the machine never identified Nathan as being a threat. It said: Possible threat detected. Subject: Ingram, Nathan. That means the subject of threat detected was Nathan. Otherwise it would have reported Nathan as a "threat to the system" in flashing red letters just as it identified Denton Weeks, deputy of the NSA as a “threat to the system” (to which Finch replied "I know"). The machine had determined a threat was being made against Nathan just after we heard Finch telling Nathan that Weeks had been trying for the past 6 months to access the machine via the NSA leads. That's when Nathan expressed concern about what a man like Weeks could do with that power. Nathan was afraid of Weeks not the machine. Also the machine permitted Nathan access when Finch was not there (it recognized his facial features) and allowed him to change the program (adding a contingency plan). The machine has a sense of self preservation (so says Finch) so why would it allow someone it saw as a threat

People, the machine never identified Nathan as being a threat. Remember it can't determine if a person is the perp or victim. The machine had determined a threat was being made against Nathan just after we heard Finch telling Nathan that Denton Weeks, the NSA deputy with Alicia, had tried tunneling into the machine for 6 months via the intel leads. Also the machine permitted Nathan access when Finch was not there (it recognized his facial features) and allowed him to change the program (adding a contingency plan). The machine has a sense of self preservation (or so says Finch) so why would it allow someone it saw as a threat to change its program?
I think one of the things driving Finch is that the machine determine there was a threat against Nathan and reported it but he was one of the irrelevants so no one knew. Now Finch feels he was in some ways responsible for Nathan's death especially since Nathan felt so strongly about disregarding the irrelevant list.
