Root vs Finch is the classic good vs evil. She mentioned it in the Root Cause episode when she could have totally damaged the machine when she had a chance. Since she usually sells to the highest bidder, she will be compromised and ultimately lose. Looking forward to S2!

Great finale. I should have guessed that Turing wasn't what she appeared based on her name. Reese was hilarious "Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't really after you" and offering to buy drinks after blowing up that car. Great time for Fusco and Carter to find out about each other. Great hook at the end.

There is a second part of the series Person of Interest

The reason Finch's number didn't come up is because the Machine couldn't predict he was in danger, since Root put the hit on herself. I'm betting she did it on paper to, so there wouldn't be an electronic trail for it to follow back to her. That would have been a red flag for them not to mess with her. To do what she did, she would have to know a heck of a lot about the Machine, and I want to know how she knows it. I'm more interested by her motives for kidnapping Finch. What does she want with him? The only word to describe this season finale is EPIC.
Also, I think there's a human brain behind the mysterious call to Reese at the end, but I'm not sure who.

Person of Interest is definitely my favorite show since 2011. I love the script, the acting and the intense action with witty twist. The season finale "Firewall" was brilliant. The episode started off like the "usual" (number comes up etc) and then it turns into action-packed thriller.. and in the end, it the return of Root. Crazy. I completely forget about Root from previous episode! What a clever way to put all the puzzles together. It's so sad that this season has ended. But the positive thing the show has been renewed! This means we should see the 2nd season....
Every single episode has been excellent! I really like the direction of character development and all the twists in plot and motives. So far, the _only_ thing I can accurately predict is that someone is going to get shot in the knees.
I enjoy this series so much, I have it all saved on my DVR - then I re-watch the earlier episodes that are relevant to the newest one. I have NEVER done anything like that before. Is it me or is there an extra minute or two of commercials during this show than during earlier episodes? Is that a show budget thing or just because it's popular enouth to get away with it? Anyway, Thanks for a truly GREAT show! JeffK - Boston, Ma.

Anyone catch the Vengeance Unlimited reference? Chocolate lines lifted almost word-for-word from that show.
on i different note in a flash back were Reese and his woman partner go to that ghost town were they gov trys too kill them both were they were sapost to bring back a computer there is a print out of all numbers and resse looks at it?? then at the end finch is in the hospital were resse is what do you guys make of that???
nathan is deff not controlling it no way he is not smart he dint do shit hes the reason that finch had too leave his wife cuz he gave the machine too the wrong person
he may have faked his death thats not out of the Q? tho and maby he helps finch when hes out but i doubt it the machine is the MACHINE it sees all
finch talked about a back up plane in case he was no longer there
My only Q? is why dint the machine give out finches number?? i know finch is really spooked so he may not have had a number but the machine should have warned him no?i mean the machine is the MACHINE it sees all???

I think people did not watch the last scene closely.
When Reese looks up at the camera the side bar says "System security compromised" ...Evaluating Options.
And then the call to Reese.
Somehow the machine got to know that the creator of the machine is in trouble and the contingency was invoked. How is the question?(either that or someone is directly controlloing the machine. But Harold told Nathan that not even he can access it directly. So i doubt nathan could have somehow installed another backdoor to control it,faked his death and is controlling it.
What a show!!!When is the dvd getting released?

I enjoyed this episode a lot. One of my best. I think that Nathan faked his death and Finch knows about it, and is the one controlling the machine

Prediction: Finch will turn Root and she will join their team as the inside backup that Finch told Reese about earlier. Zoe will have more appearances to help Reese in the field and as these characters are added Fusco and Carter will be spun off with their own show. Nathan will return and there will be an episode devoted to whether the philosophy and strategy behind the building of the machine is the highest and best use of it. An episode will be devoted to stopping a terrorist plot but in an overseas setting. The writers will flirt with the idea of revealing some of the secrets Finch, Reese, Root and Zoe have from their earlier life. Finally, a home grown terroist will have to be foiled to keep from disrupting the election process. This speculating is a fun way to make the time between now and fall pass faster.

What a show!
Could the phone call be the machine telling us Finch's number is now up?
I missed the very first show or premier. Any suggestions how I can access it?

Just to point out that the action scenes in this are far beyond those of any other network show. In particular the intensity of which the FBI squad first came down the steps had people around me gasping.
Amy Acker as root is casting brilliance. I liked the portrait as an advertisement - it's those little touches of (very) dark humor that this show does so well.
Though above all good writing. So many network shows, particularly this year, had so many things going for them but in the end had bad writing. Not here.

Wow, screw any other writers, just hire these guys to write any show.
They are amazing, this is easily the best show i've seen in a long time.

Quelle finale!! The best ever! Yes it is going to be a long summer...I can't believe finch and reese where fooled. I guess they aren't perfect after all. Something is still fishy about finch. Poor reese...he's all alone...

Don't know if my last comments came through. Pls keep Lionel/Carter interesting & questioning one another not predictable. Maybe stretch out Finch's disappearance to keep us wondering/guessing. Finally, WHO called Reese in the final scene? The MACHINE itself?! Although it does know that Finch/Reese ARE "dead"-or does it??! Love what Carla said, it makes you more intelligent every hour you spend with it!

Just read all the comments I sincerely hope the producers read them too. There's so many of us out there that LOVE this show as one of the BEST OF ALL TIME (yeah, really.) It's INTELLIGENT & gives us credit for being intelligent too. No sex, T&A, vulgarity-just pure intelligence. Thought I'd seen it all on TV-nothing new. THIS is the 'something new'! Excellent choice of actors for their characters. The actor playing Lionel is a perfect choice. Love it that Reese always seems to be whispering! Excellent depth of character & knowing always more unrevealed. As one wrote: "riveting/mesmerizing" is so true! EVERY episode lays more foundation for future ones-begging for reruns! The actor that plays the crooked cop (in HR?) that survived is SCARY/CREEPY/COLD/DANGEROUS. EVERY scene was well written & acted! Believable (for a change!)CBS don't you DARE cancel this show! The combination of writing/directing/characters/acting has FINALLY come together! Now for my S
Maybe he spoke to the Machine to draw out the "contingency" Harold spoke of during a conversation a few episodes ago. Reese asked him what happens if you're gone Harold, and H replies he has contingency plans.

Brilliant Brilliant Brilliant. They just keep going from strength to strength.
Also there is a nice symmetry in 'Root' - first the producers got 13 episodes, and so the plotted an arc ending with a female hacker called 'Root' hacking Finches computer in episode 13. But then the series got popular and got an additional 10 episodes, the show continued (beautifully i might add), and yet again 'Root' returned for the final episode.

This will really be a very long summer! The ending was so cool. Reese speaking to the Machine. And I loved the looks on Carter and Fusco when each realized their connection to Reese and Finch. A very good episode.
Great final episode. I don't think this is the last we've seen of Alicia. She'll be seen again in the flashbacks. As for who called Reese at the end; I don't think it's Nathan. When you see all the computer bling sometimes it actually says something significant. At one point the machine felt Nathan could be a threat. And at the end it clearly indicated that Reese was an "asset" and that it contemplated what its options were now that "continuity of operations" were in jeopardy.
