Hawaii Five-0 has found a mother for Steve McGarrett - and she's an Emmy winner.

Christine Lahti - who took home the hardware for her run on Chicago Hope - has landed the much-anticipated role of McGarrett's mother, Doris, CBS announced today.

Christine Lahti on NBC

Says producer Peter Lenkov:

“The mysterious character of Doris McGarrett is a pivotal one to the mythology of our show and we are thrilled to have a seasoned and beloved actress such as Christine to portray her. She’s a wonderful addition to the H50 family and the fans will certainly enjoy what we have in store for her. Let’s just say that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.”

Lahti will debut on the September premiere, which picks up just "seconds" after events on the Hawaii Five-0 Season 2 finale, Lenkov teases.

The veteran actress has also appeared on Jack & Bobby, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

Great choice. Alex O"Loughlin did his best work on the show with Governor Jamison first season. Eagerly looking foward to watching Ms. Lahti and Mr. O'l work together in season three. Possible love hook up on the show--Jim Caan and Lahti?!

I love this choice. I did not think of her at all, but I'm thrilled. She is a great actress, can't wait for the season opener. There are still people out there saying the Shelburne story is going to continue. It's been solved, Shelburne is Doris McGarrett. Since she will have a recurring role, we will find out the story behind her faked death, and why she stayed away. It's TV so anything is possible. I think Alex and Christine will do well together as mother and son. I hope she turns out to be kick ass like her son. Wofat will find out at some point, so there are all sorts of possibilities for her role. Along with the other 3 story lines, I think this coming season will be great.

I don't even watch Hawaii five-o but I might now. Love Christine Lahti - by the way she is also Oscar nominated.
