True Blood Review: Ready to Die

by at . Comments

Sookie was still feeling the effects of one too many Orange Marzipans when True Blood kicked off this week, but "Hopeless" had me drunk with delight in the end, as it featured a number of scenes to which I'd like to raise a glass.

While the smoke monster chased Terry and Patrick like they were members of Danielle Rousseau's science expedition on Lost, some of you may have found yourself wanting to put a curse on Alan Ball for this continued storyline.

I, however, liked the heartfelt scene where Terry told Arlene why he had to leave her and the kids behind. They both have been through so much and thought they finally had found some peace when they discovered their feelings for each another, but once again they were each set adrift in their quests for a normal life.

Salome on True Blood

Two people who have never known a normal life, Sam and Luna, were thankfully still alive and on the mend at the outset here. I liked Sam's speech to Andy about not knowing what it's like to have someone want to kill you just because of what you are. The racial undertones of this show aren't always subtle, but they are always very poignant.

Andy was smart to let Sam tag along on his investigation. The two of them were like some supernatural version of Turner and Hooch, with Sam immediately proving his worth as he saved Andy's life.

Sticking with the four-legged members of the show, how great was it to see Alcide finally assert himself and announce his claim as pack master to J.D.? I knew we hadn't seen the last of Rikki and was glad to see her step up as Alcide's second. Although, if they hook up at some point, I hope she has a king size bed for Alcide's sake. How funny did he look when he sat up in Sookie's bed, barely covered by her pink comforter?

Moving on to a man who never looks awkward in pink, Lafayette got his daily dose of crazy when he visited Ruby Jean to ask her about Jesus. She is always good for a laugh with her backhanded compliments and semi-acceptance of her son's sexuality. We didn't learn a whole lot about this storyline that we already hadn't guessed ourselves, but it looks like La-La is going to have to let his stank face out for real if he is going to help out his lost lover.

Jason continued to have dreams about his dead parents this week. After he vowed to bring their killer to justice, his father tried to tell him about the only thing to fear. Now either Mr. Stackhouse was a big F.D.R. fan or he was trying to give Jason some vital knowledge in regard to the person who did them in. What an interesting twist it was, revealing the reason he and Sookie's parents were ambushed was due to a tiny drop of her blood.

Russell we know is a fan of Sookie's scent. Was he the one on that bridge that night? Either way, it was good to see him back on his feet finally, entertaining as always. While I fear we have seen the last of Roman and his Nike Golf collection, Russell will most assuredly fill the large spotlight that has deservedly shone on Christopher Meloni's character thus far this season.

If Russell's additions to our favorite True Blood quotes tonight were any indication of things to come, we all are in for a real treat. Who else could mention the Kardashians whilst being lead away by an armed vampire guard?

After tonight, is it safe to say Salome is the other traitor working inside the Authority and is it Lilith herself who she is helping? Salome wasn't too subtle about wanting to see Russell. Time and time again she tried to excuse herself to go continue her interrogation. Roman was uncorking the good stuff and she couldn't get out of there fast enough. As for Lilith's involvement, that seemed to be what Nora was alluding to, didn't it?

I can't forget to mention Pam breaking up Jessica and Tara's fight and the way in which she dismissed Tara's actions as only Pam can... or the one Obama mask wearer going "Yes we can" after shooting the vampire who was feeding on Hoyt.

With so much to discuss I could continue on with my ramblings, but I'd rather hear what you all have to say. So while I'm sure I failed to touch on some parts of the episode, I eagerly await your comments to discuss the ones I did mention and anything else you found to be noteworthy. Thanks to Matt Richenthal for letting me sub in for him this week. I hope you all enjoyed my two cents.

That scene of Eric holding Alcides head in his hands and their faces...so close they could almost...kiss. That's going in my special memory box for later.

I love Eric more this season than ever before! Wiping Alcide's memory and as only Eric can, still make claim to Sookie, was awesome! Love every look he has and how he can't be persuaded by Roman. And did I miss something entirely when Christopher Meloni was signed as a regular character? Did that get changed? Why is everyone assuming he is dead and after only a few episodes! Not to mention he was with the cast at Comic Con.
Roman isn't going anywhere. LaLa and mama scene was the funniest of the night. Please for the love of Lilith can the smoke/fire monster story line die?!?!? Sad that Patrick left Grey's Anatomy for such a ridiculous role!

As for Lafayette (Lala) story….I laugh so hard I had to rewind it to hear what they said again…his mother is just too funny for me…The Terry story started out interesting but the fake smoke demon is too far fetch even for this show…again just sayin. Hoyt needs a hobby…and I just love how Pam keep Tara grounded and Pam’s one-liners are soooo funny. They act well together. Now for Andy and Sam that was good team work. I think the human mask wearing folks are those guys Hoyt was eating with a few episode ago…I guess we will see. Now, the Sookie and Jason’s story was interesting as well. I wonder who killed their parents more now than before. I hope now the other fairies will show Sookie how to use her magic…she needs all the help she can get. Now last but now least when Eric brain washed Alcide that was just funny…again I was laughing so hard I had to rewind it. Can’t wait for next week!!!

Here is my two cents worth on this episode…. It was interesting and good to see Russell back and crazy as ever. But, I wish Roman was a bit meaner and scarier and it would have been nice to see him in more episodes to come...not to mention it should not have been so easy to kill him…oh well. Simone didn’t hide it much that she was not interested in what Roman had to say that I was screaming at the TV… After they killed the leftover humans from Russell’s hideout I figured the other Authority members are in on the whole conspiracy and the kid vamp was a decoy. Not to mention I think that Lithe person is still alive and well. At first I thought the mystery woman was Simone but now I feel otherwise. I love the fact that (my eye candy) Alcide finally stepped up and claim his Alfa place! He tried the lone wolf thing….didn’t work out much….ya think!!! So hopefully this will plus I feel Rikki and him would be a nice new couple….we can use a new one…just sayin. I'm not sure why everyone just stood there while Russel killed Roman. I was thinking that it could have something to do with the age of the vampires in question. As far as i know, we don't really know the exact ages of The Authority members. If there the same age or younger that could be a possible reason for no one doing anything, none of them could over power Russel. This episode was one of the best for me. There was a lot of needless story lines but that's par for the course with this show. There were very good aspects but then there were meh parts too. It was a better episode. I liked Eric wiping Alcide's memory. That was funny. Pam & Tara were a good part. All the stuff involving The Authority was good. The murder of Sookie & Jason's parents were good. I love Lala but his story line could of been better. As touching as Terry & Arlene were, I feel this could of waited for another time. It was a better episode this week.

I wonder if Bill and Eric's app-stakes worked, I bet not! Seems like a complete covert mutiny led by Salome; B and E were pawns. Not convinced Roman is dead.

on another note. i believe salome believed the same thing as nora. they obviously has some sort of connection. so i think salome knew what was going to happen.

@Jose T , @Chris O'Hara i totally agree with both of you. it was shocking to not see anyone do anything for him but i think its becuz they were all in on it.

@JoseT...GREAT POINT! Maybe it is because they all are in on the deception? I am very interested to hear some sort of explanation from A.Ball now that you have mentioned what appears to be a ridiculous oversight on the show's part.

This was a so so episode for me but what I didnt get was when Russell started to overpower Roman NOBODY DID ANYTHING!....they just stood there watching each other and let russell kill their supposed beloved leader....didn´t get that at all....
