Our favorite network has given the green light to this high-concept spy drama, in which Russell and Matthew Rhys will play KGB agents in the 1980s who set up camp in the United States.

But their mission grows all the more challenging as they grow immersed in U.S. culture, and then becomes even more difficult when an FBI counter intelligence officer, played by Noah Emmerich, moves in next door.

“We’re proud to welcome The Americans, a taut series that crackles with incredible performances rooted in character perspectives never explored on a U.S. television series, to FX’s line up of quality dramas,” said FX president John Landgraf in a statement.

The series will likely premiere some time in 2013.
