Grey's Anatomy Planning Special Meredith-Cristina Episode

at . Comments

Meredith and Cristina have formed one of Grey's Anatomy's core relationships for years.

Now they're getting an episode unlike any other, according to creator Shonda Rhimes.

The standalone Grey's Anatomy Season 9 episode is just the story of Meredith and Cristina," Rhimes says. "It’s really going to be original. I don’t think we’ve ever told a story the way we’re telling a story in this episode.”

In typical Shonda fashion, she won't reveal specifics, saying only, “It’s not a regular episode. I won’t be able to explain what the gimmick is until I’ve seen it shot and we’ve decided on the visual style of it"

"But it is going to be fairly different.”

Besties

There's been no shortage of offseason buzz surrounding the ABC show, from Eric Dane's impending departure to Meredith's Nazi-like persona and even the promise of a wedding to come this season.

Who do you think will get married? Will Mark die out there or survive, only to move on from Seattle? And what type of Meredith-Cristina episode would you like to see? Share your comments below!

Chandelure

In my opinion Mer & Cristina are getting too much screen time. I get that they are the main characters but so are Derek, Alex, Bailey & Weber. Of course with a big cast like that it is nearly impossible to give everyone equal screen time but focusing on Mer & Cristina so much while for example April & Jackson are being neglected to that extent just doesn't seem right. I'm happy they both are getting a story now but it kind of feels two years too late.

Yes. Pretty much every episode is and the other characters just move around them. It use to be Merideth and Derek but it has slowly move to the Meredith / Christina show . . .

Isn't every episode essentially a Meredith-Cristina episode?

Grey's Anatomy Quotes

When we say things like "people don't change" it drives scientist crazy because change is literally the only constant in all of science. Energy. Matter. It's always changing, morphing, merging, growing, dying. It's the way people try not to change that's unnatural. The way we cling to what things were instead of letting things be what they are. The way we cling to old memories instead of forming new ones. The way we insist on believing despite every scientific indication that anything in this lifetime is permanent. Change is constant. How we experience change that's up to us. It can feel like death or it can feel like a second chance at life. If we open our fingers, loosen our grips, go with it, it can feel like pure adrenaline. Like at any moment we can have another chance at life. Like at any moment, we can be born all over again.

Callie: Did anyone ever think you two were a couple?
Meredith: No, because we screw boys like whores on tequila.
Cristina: Then we either try to marry them or drown ourselves.
Callie: Huh.
