It seems to me Moretti is suppose to be a similar young rookie FBI agent similar to Jody Foster in silence of the lamb.
Now does she pull this off? No not yet, but it is early in the series she may develop.

I think Pierce is played to perfection by Eric M and thoroughly enjoy his character. The stories are interesting and somewhat twisty. Instill can't watch him and Moretti together without thinking he's with his daughter. Sorry, she is totally miscast and it's distracting.

I'm sounding like a broken record, but good review yet again. I will add that in the small time she got Kelly Rowan was excellent. Also, it didn't overuse any of its more high profile guest stars.
As for this episode in general, I was a bit shocked too in the very sharp turn it took mid-episode. I was expecting more of the same, but even the first part was much tighter (better) than usual. A very good direction for the show if it can pull that off more often. Cook and Smith both got passable scripts.
I haven't mentioned it yet, but one thing (at least so far) that this show does is it doesn't over-dramatize the minor negative banter when interrogating suspects/witnesses that is common in... well... almost every other cop-related show that isn't a comedy.
