Drop Dead Diva Review: The Fork In The Road

at . Comments

Pardon me while I try to wrap my head around the ending of "Jane's Getting Married..."

When we heard the cliffhanger for this year's Drop Dead Diva season finale would be unlike any other, never could I have imagined those last few minutes. Before we go any further, I feel the need to give anyone who hasn't watched a MAJOR spoiler alert.

Jane's Wedding Day

April Bowlby told me in an interview that the original Jane would later make and appearance and that she is pissed. I'd say that was a very accurate description. My question is: if original Jane was given the option to move on to a peaceful place or stay and watch what happened to her body, why would she torture herself? Why would anyone ever want to watch someone live their life for them?

I guess to the viewer, it seems like Deb improved Jane's life. She injected some fun, liveliness, confidence and love into a void. The only real problem is that Deb was hanging onto her past too. More specifically, Deb was hanging onto Grayson.

Do I believe she really loved Owen? Yes, absolutely. Do I believe you can love two people at once for different reasons? Yes I do. People in your life give you different things. I found it really interesting that Luke asked Deb the night before her wedding, if she would choose her new life or old life?

This whole episode was about make decision. No matter which road you travel, you will gain certain things and lose others. Would Hannah rather be smart and possibly die in six months than bus for tips at a bar and be with her husband? Would Kim rather tell Parker the baby wasn't his even though it was? Obviously we watched both of these people ultimately choose love, so is that what it's all about?

It's been four seasons and Grayson has finally confessed his love to Jane, Deb's Jane. Was having her dress stuck on that nail some sort of divine intervention? Clearly the guardian angels aren't controlling all that much if it's so easy to push a return button. Now where does she go?

Well... the choice isn't quite up to her since Owen caught the kiss, had a heart attack and was resuscitated as the original Jane. I'm still totally baffled at this, but I do know it means major consequences for next season.

As far as the storyline with Chelsea Kane, it was great but I think it would've gotten more attention in another episode. It deserved more attention than it got.

Those are my thoughts on the finale and I'm interested to hear all of yours. Hit the comments and we'll see you next season!

I really enjoyed the first two seasons, but by season 3 I gradually watched less episodes. I did however promise myself to watch the last one or two episodes of Drop Dead Diva. Now that I've witnessed Jane's Getting Married, I really hope the next one has a better plot. I'll attempt to watch one more but that may be it for my Drop Dead Diva fan days. I do applaud the actors, creativity, love confussion and the music video scenes.

Well, it looks as if it's going to be a mess! If the "real" Jane is allowed to comeback in Owen's body to give the reincarnate Deb (user of Jane's body) a bit of heck -- I am afraid that they are going to allow Owen who is probably now in heaven watching this fiasco - to look down in dissent and one day come back to earth as -guess who-- GRAYSON! If they don't kill Grayson off to allow Owen back on the scene, they could allow the real Jane to give "Deb Jane" hell through the resurrected Owen..... This is going to be a season to remember. I hope that the writers have great things coming from their pens! I will be glad when it's back on.

anybody know when the 5th season starts??

It has always bothered me that Deb got to take Jane's hard work, education, reputation, singing voice, and money without having to do a lick of work. She doesn't even appreciate it. As though being fat is the trade-off for a life that would otherwise require a decade of education and work. To this day, Jane giggles every time she knows anything and rarely cracks a book.

I love Owen the real Jane should have excepted that her body wasn't hers anymore and stayed up there with dingbat Fred. Owen all the way

I'm hoping its just a scenario for Jane/Deb to see what could have been! Don't know how Jane in Owen is going to work? It would have been better for Deb to be in Owen's body - because then Jane wont want Grayson anymore, but Deb (in Owen will) lol!

I think it is too obvious that Old Jane would come down to Owen's body. When season 5 starts, I would not be surprised that Owen is Owen. Not sure if the wedding will happen though. And to be honest, if Luke is supposed to be Deb/Jane's guardian angel, where was he to prevent the kiss? I think Old Jane will come back into a person who is in Deb's life and try to get even with her. This show needs more then 13 shows a season. Give this show 23 or 24 episodes and start it in the fall.

We don't know it was the real Jane that came back. It could have been Fred. I love this show but I, too, agree that bringing Jane back into Owen's body is not the best move. I can't wait for next summer!

WTF !!!! "Just Jane" in Owen's body ?! That is just purely SICK !!! Finally Jane/Deb had the chance to be with him...and btw, yup the kiss was weird...not on the lips I'm afraid ! Grayson's confession was beautiful !
Happy that Kim and PArker are gonna settle down ! Thought they already did... Do not like Luke... I was sooo happy to See Fred !! If the twist at the end of the episode turns out to be true, I hope he'll be the guardian angel. But I really don't like old Jane... she's not very pleasant. And obviously she'll be the main protagonist so that doesn't help ! Gosh Owen and Jane/Deb will never be together now...
I also loooooved the bridesmaids dresses, thought it looked better on Teri. Cannot wait for next season. Hope I'll like it.
The case for the Tumor shoulda been in another episode, true...

I LOVE THIS SHOW! I LOVE THIS SHOW! I LOVE THIS SHOW! I have tried to recruit friends to it, but they think it's "silly." The point IS: it is SILLY! And I love it for that! I loved the twist ending on the season's end--the entire premise of the show is ludicrous...and that is what makes it FUN! Folks--don't get all serious about "not liking" Owen or liking him or whatever....it's NOT REAL! And that's what makes it enjoyable! It's getting like Pygmalion now...what a great turn the writers have taken! Now, will Owen come back in Deb's body? This fan can hardly wait for more craziness! Love the cast so much. And BTW, the bridesmaid dresses were to DIE for.

Drop Dead Diva Season 4 Episode 13 Quotes

You know what they say, the only person more important than the bride is the bride's mother.

I told you it's bad luck for the groom to see the dress before the wedding. And according to us weekly that's what broke up Sandra Bullock and Jessie James.
