First I want to say how well executed I believe the episode was handled. I think Shonda learned from how quickly she killed off Lexie and the uproar that followed that she needed to give Mark a proper sendoff. It was a beautiful tribute to him. Now, did others notice how much healthier and better Eric Dane looked from the last season? I hope all is well with him now. Perhaps his health was a factor in the decision to let him go.
First of all, I love this show. I even love that it's pretty depressing. But the first episode of season 9 left me very disapointed. I was expecting more. I did not like the flashbacks, I felt that the episode should have picked up where season 8 left off. But I see that next week's episode will be doing that. I really don't like what they are doing whith Meredith's character. I understand that she just lived through a trauma, but trauma is that chick's middle name. The writers took her to the extreme. So sad that Mark Sloan died! I loved him.

Don't know why they'd bring back irritating April. I will miss Teddy and Mark for sure. The one thing that has always struck me as being too unrealistic to be even a teeny bit believable throughout the years on this show is how they have fat, dumpy, unpretty and extremely annoying Bailey hooking up with all these young hot studs who all seem to be falling all over themselves to be with her. I can't even watch this ridiculousness anymore, and I leave the room when they try to extend that storyline. This simply would not happen in real life--and it's one hot guy after another!!! Come on!!!

I loved the episode. And i did cry. I thought i wouldn't but when they showed the flashback with Mark holding Sophia i broke... Aaah..Bye, bye McSteamy.
I didn't get one thing. What is Cristina doing in Minessota? Every elite hospital in the country wanted her as an atending. Why would she choose one that is obviously the wrong fit. Maybe because she really didn't want to leave? I hope we'll find out in the next episode.
And...I'm very happy that April's coming back. But i also didn't like that Owen went to find her instead of Cristina. Plus, why the f@@k did April went back to the farm? You do not spend 5 years going through hell in order to become a surrgeon and then just give up. I expected more from April.

Mer is an attending because she is a general surgeon. The six years take you to general surgery. When you want to specialize you become a fellow. For exemple plastics or cardio.

Mark would never leave his daughter. He had to die and while it would have been nice to see him and Lexie walk into afterlife together, it would have implied he gave up to be with Lexie than to fight to stay with his daughter. It was sad but I believe it was the only way.

I actually liked the episode. The tribute was fantastic to mark. He has been there from almost the beginning and he should have gotten a nice ending to his character.
I read these comments and the same people are always so negative. It's a show and these people are actors. They wanted to move on.. Can you blame them?? It's been 8 years of this show and if they want to move on you can't blame shonda for that. I'm reading a lot about how it's money issues. I don't remember reading that anywhere. I need to too just stick with reading the review. You guys are exhausting.

Isn't anyone else disappointed by the fact that Owen didn't go to Christina and went instead to give April her job back? Sudden flash of hope that things would be better between Owen and Christina was almost instantaneously shut down. I'm still hoping though.

The show will die with the death of Mark Sloan and Lexie Grey. I can't believe Shonda Rhimes would cut THE best characters on the show because of the budget...but then add completely new characters. Killing off George O'Malley was a HUGE mistake, and this was the biggest mistsake of all. Alex Korev, Derek Shepherd, Arizona Robbins, and April Kepner are dramatic and annoying. Mark and Lexie were the only reason I still watched the show. We were all waiting for them to get back together. They were hilarious and loveable. Grey's Anatomy will regret this. They have lost yet another faithful viewer.

I cried like a baby... oh man soo sad, I thought Mark wont die? I knew he will leave the show but i really thought I read that they wont kill him off. Really sad - love him
Meredith, well I hope she wont be the deppressed b**** now ;)
Christina: every other person would be happy about such nice people at work, but of course she isnt
Arizona - i already cried cause I really thought she is dead. When I saw her, I was soo happy. But then I thought: YEAH you stupid cow get up and be happy, at least your alive!! cant blame her, but still, come on Mark died!!! you lost a leg, that sucks, but come on Callie really needs you!
When Owen went to see April and said: Mark died, we need you, I screamed: NO ONE NEEDS HER! I WANT MARK BACK! but hey thats what it is - still so sad

Seattle Grace currently holds the record for having the most number of doctors dying in a span of what, like 5 years? :(

I loved the season premiere. I think that Shonda paid a great tribute to Eric Dane and the fans to dedicate an episode, the season premiere no less, to say good bye to Mark. I am going to miss him. I wish Eric Dane the best in all of future endeavors but he will always be McSteamy to me. I can't wait for the next episode to find out what happened.

At first I thought I missed the premiere show. Took me half way through to figure out this was the premiere, but I loved it. In no way was I expecting Mark to die. I thought he would open his eyes, just as the were ready to pull the plug. I was glad to see Alex come back, maybe he will be inspiration for Arizona to get up and get out of her pity party mood! Arizona..Callie and Sophia need you! Medusa...lol..She learn from the best..Bailey, or should I say BCB..I missed Teddy, I remember when she was on Third Watch, loved her back then, bring her back! Christina, shes harsh and sometimes a B*^%h, but that's what make her character! Keep up the good work Shonda!

It was a great episode. I was looking for it the whole summer.
I was prepared for Lexi's death because there was a lot of spoilers. But Mark's death... It was very sad, the acting was amazing. It was the best way for him to leave.
Medusa Grey! Grown up and teaching. I love her.
And I hope that Cristina will return, glad that Alex stayed.
I thought that I don't like April but I missed her a little. And I really miss Teddy. She was an amazing teacher for Christina.
But the best best best news is that Arizona lives! She is blaming Callie and mayby also Alex - but she is alive. And she needs to return to the hospital as a doctor immediately because the new head of peds is horrible. I hate him already.

Hats of to Shonda, she is amazing, because to keep the audience entertained for that long, it takes a lot of creativity. I enjoyed the premiere:
-Medusa Meredith - I wasn't really surprised there, Meredith always had that something very scary about her and she always was a tough cookie, so I like that she is being feared now. Remember how she was looked at when her affair with Derek was revealed? Its interesting how her and Bailey's roles have reversed in a way.
- Christina - I had a feeling she would be in a different hospital and that she would be miserable...but I can't blame her. Hope to her more often though.
- Mark - R.I.P. dear Mark, we will always miss you!
- Arizona- guys, I have to say, I had a feeling she didn't die, even with all the "I am so sorry" from all the other people telling her that, I just remembered how badly Arizona's leg was and I had a feeling her absence had to do something with that.
- April - was I the only one who was shocked to see Owen go

I found this episode very disjointed. With the new interns in the first scene I wasn't sure I had the right show. Mark Sloane's death was very sad, but why did Meredith dump Derek to go to Minnesota. Where was Mark's family and his wife from PP?
The story of Owen flying to a pig farm to get April back because it was the only thing he could control? How lame! all he ahd to do was to go and see Christina. Finally to portray the MN docs as talkative and bumbling was downright insulting. And no, there are not always 10 inches of snow all the time. Come to Canada for that.
