Matt Long to Play Doctor on Private Practice

For the role of a new doctor at St. Ambrose hospital, Private Practice is going long. Matt Long, that is!

The actor (The Deep End, Jack & Bobby, Mad Men) will scrub in for multiple episode of the ABC drama this fall, TV Guide confirms, only revealing the character's profession and leaving viewers to wonder whether he'll be a love interest for an employee of Seaside Wellness.

Long had previously booked a role on the Shonda Rhimes pilot Gilded Lilys, a period piece that failed to earn a pickup on ABC this season.

Private Practice Season 6, meanwhile, will premiere on September 25. It's unclear when Long will make his debut.

So darn lucky that I know an actual actor! Went to high school with Matt and graduated with him! GRCHS c/o 1998!

I LOVED Jack and Bobby, everybody who can, watch it! And Matt Long was great in it..
As for PP, I think the show really is done, there's nothing more about the story that could make it interesting without Addison.. I mean, what's next? Should Charlotte get cancer or Amelia be with a girl to make it more exiting? If the show continues it will only ruin the characters.
The story about Addison will be told and that should be it.

Matt Long can be a love interest for Violet, even if I would prefer that they had kept Tim Daly. As Ace write, the change is probably due to budgetary reasons. I don't want him with Amelia. I too think that Amelia must settle with Sheldon. He already lost Violet and Charlotte. I would want to see him succeed this time, because he has had feelings for Amelia for more time than for the two other. Shemelia could make a great couple. They both are witty, passionate and have humour. She needs his stability and he needs her fantasy. And their differences are amusing.

The reason Tim was let go was because of budgetary seasons. He's been on since season 1, which means his per episode salary increased per season, and especially after the 100 episodes. Out of the story, Tim's character was the easiest to lift out. Financially, if Long's character does end up replacing Tim's as the new critical care/emergency physician, it's sound because Long is a fresh face and is paid a lot less than a veteran like Daly. Plus, IMO, Pete was getting too big for britches.

So a recurring role that will most likely turn into a regular role once Kate Walsh (and her possible love interest Benjamin Bratt/Taye Diggs leave) depart and if the series is extended. Either way, this is the most stupid move seeing as Tim Daly could have been in this recurring role with his absence being explained as a suspended medical license and at home with Lucas.
Also, unless Pete is killed in prison (seeing as there will be a death this season), I highly doubt Violet will get a love interest this season at all. I could foresee a casual relationship between Amelia and himself, but nothing more.

maybe a love interest for Violet since Pete is out of the picture.

Amelia has Sheldon and she better stop being a tramp and settle for Sheldon, he's a good guy.
