Arrow Review: Deadshot

at . Comments

It's all fun and games until somebody swoops in and takes out one of Arrow's targets before his work is done!

In "Lone Gunman" the offending vigilante wasn't in fact a vigilante at all. As Oliver helpfully pointed out, this guy didn't go after people for justice, he just did it for the kill.

One bullet laced with poison was all it took for this assassin. That's why the various organizations searching for him called him Deadshot.

Taking Deadshot

Besides, Deadshot is easier to say than "creepy killer who tattoos his hits' names on his body." This was a new and very highly skilled opponent for Oliver, but luckily he was familiar with the act of getting poisoned.

With more flashbacks to the island, I feel like we're finally starting to really piece together Oliver's time there. The biggest revelation, however, was not until the end when the original Arrow told a foolish Oliver that "they" would kill him out there alone." Then what looked like a black ops team poked around and realized their trap came up empty. Those were not just random hunters on the island. Dare I say they might've been hired by Moira Queen?

Moira stated last week that the yacht was sabotaged. But then, did she really leave her son on a deserted island for five years? It's not really making sense to me just yet. Please feel free to add your theories in the comments as I'd love to hear them! Either way, Moira is definitely shady and as previews show, she is aware that there is a list of bad guys.

As far as being aware, Moira and Thea have to notice the conflicting sides of Oliver's personality that keep coming out. Or, as Thea so helpfully dubbed it, his "judgmental hypocrisy." Where else would she have learned such petulant and rebellious behavior? By the way, if I ever saw my protective big brother at a club I wasn't supposed to be at, I'd never tell him I was so wasted I was seeing two of him. C'mon Thea, you are definitely smarter than that.

Detective Lance has also caught on that Arrow has a specific method and realized immediately that it wasn't his handiwork that killed James Holden. Arrow has a method to his madness and after his tipoff to Lance about Deadshot, I think it's safe to say Detective Lance's hatred of the hooded man will no longer be so strong. He sure did teach his daughter well might I add. Laurel kicked some ass this week!

Laurel isn't fooling anyone about her feelings, though. She refused to believe that Oliver didn't care about her and Tommy and insisted that he must've already known. True or not, it's obvious Laurel isn't ready to give up on him.

My favorite part of the episode was the end when Oliver saved Diggle. It was only a matter of time before Diggle found out Oliver's secret. When they were at the gala, did Oliver slip up about the information he knew on purpose? I'd assume so, but who knows. It was a great way to end the episode with Diggle waking up and Oliver just simply stating "hey."

Where do we go from here? Will Diggle become Oliver's confidante? I think the club is a great cover for Arrow's workshop.

Realmente estava difícil para o Oliver, ele tinha de confiar em alguém, apesar que estava hilário as escapadas dele, eram divertidas, agora, vamos ver, tem algo estranho neste série.

Killing deadshot was a huge mistake. I mean what about keeping the plot active making green arrow fail first and giving deadshot more time and more mystery as an assassin. If they keep doing this to other characters in the series I see a cancellation very soon.

The only problem with the "Out with Lana Lang and in with Lois Lane" comment is that although they are using her middle name and not her first name, Laurel Lance is Oliver Queens Lois Lane. Dinah Lance aka the Black Canary.

Overall,I like the show but I have a few problems with it. The main one being I don't like Laurel. I don't know why, it could be the actress or the character but I hope she sorta fades into the background though I don't see that happening. If they put her and Oliver back together (and that's obviously where the show is going) it would not go down smooth with me considering the fact that he slept with her sister and was with her when she died and I don't see any woman in real life ever being able to accept that and get back with the man. It would be weak, even if he did "change". Just weird. Hopefully they bring in a legitimate new love interest for him down the road. Out with the Lana Lang, in with the Lois Lane.

Not as strong (with action and Green Arrow) as the past two episodes, but it still had some good storylines (family wise and romantic wise). Hopefully it can continue it out by balancing both dynamics.

What a great episode! The cat and tiger story to Thea was funny, and of course most important the Dribble character. Shame Deadshot and Arrow couldn't work together, but hey.. I really liked this Deadshot character. His motives were realistic (way more than how he was depicted in Smallville). I also think that Deadshot somehow will return: his tats prove more than by killing him just with one arrow (it would be fun if he got it to the knee!). I also expected that Dribble wouldn't get so soon familiar with the Arrow, but that's why I like this show: it speeds things up and has a tight storyline. Really, everything has its purpose, the time has been used well.
I also must mention Black Canary!!! This is seemingly the start of justice league: and I can't wait for more next week!
What do you guys think about the island? "they will kill you"? Who were those Avatar-typed infiltrants, and really what's the deal of mr Arrow senior?

Love this show! Yes Laurel still has feelings for Oliver, but she and Tommy did not sleep together until after she found out that Oliver ran off w/her sister and they were presumed dead. Oliver knew about Tommy and Laurel because he was spying on her and overheard them in the first episode. Did Oliver's dad not know that Moira was involved??? Shouldn't she be on the Bad list???

All good in the hood and getting better each week with a few
small exceptions... Eye closing ending was superb!

@LeighRaines - the yacht was sabotaged to kill them, not to have them hanging around on a deserted island. There's no reason to believe that Moira had any idea that there was a survivor, much less to send a black-ops team to an uncharted island to catch her son. Besides - at the time of the flashback, he'd only been on the island for like a day or two. As for Oliver's different personalities - again, I don't think there's any reason for Moira and Thea to suspect anything other than a big brother being protective of his little sister, since he knows first hand the vices he committed. Detective Lance isn't going to hate the vigilante any less. As far as he's concerned, he's still killed people - including the assassin. He might at best be begrudgingly grateful for the help.

I am loving this show more and more. Yeah, he knew about Laurel & Tommy & that is why he slept w/Sarah. Did you catch what Arrow's mom said about the boat being sabatoged? Is Deadshot really dead, I hope so. And I am so glad
Dig will be the one to find out his secret.
I love this show as much almost as I love Supernatural, just keep them coming
and good shows.

Arrow Season 1 Episode 3 Quotes

Oliver: She's testing you.
Moira: Yes, and who'd she learn that from?

Cops brought her home. She and some friends broke into a store, tried on some dresses last night, lit up the breathalyzer like a Christmas tree.
