Gossip Girl Season 5: Share Your Favorite Moments!

by at . Comments

Oh Gossip Girl. Please don't leave us. We love you so hard.

In honor of repeats airing for the first time on the Style network, and the final season airing this fall on the CW, TV Fanatic is taking a look back at the series that's given us so many great memories over the years.

Last week, we reflected on Gossip Girl Season 4, a turbulent year by any measure. Today, we ask you to share your memories of the show's fifth season and all its ups, downs, highs, lows and controversies ...

A Dan and Blair Photo

Gossip Girl Season 5 began in Los Angeles when a re-energized Chuck and Nate decided to pay Serena a visit. Nate made the acquaintance of Elizabeth Hurley's Diana Payne, and Chuck nearly had a brush with death.

He's still pining for Blair, of course, as his true love is planning to marry Louis - and learns she is pregnant. The identity of the father remained a secret for some time, as did the mystery of why she'd marry Louis.

Back in New York, Dan learned that Vanessa - having been booted off the show - published one chapter of his novel as a parting shot. Inside then became a hit, but his Upper East Side pals weren't thrilled with it.

Chuck and Blair on Her Wedding Day

Gossip Girl Season 5, like Seasons 3 and 4 before it, featured Chair coming thisclose to getting together, only to have fate intervene. Or most notably, in this case, a car crash that caused her miscarriage and his near death (again).

As a result of the crash, Blair also makes a pact with God that she will marry Louis ... which she does, but only after her true feelings are revealed on video just moments earlier, at which point the prince turns on her.

It was all a bit convoluted, and that wasn't even the half of it. Following the demise of her loveless union, Blair and Dan plunged into a full-on romantic relationship, probably the most controversial arc in series history.

Love them or loathe them, everyone had an opinion on Dair.

Lola and Nate Photo

The season also focused on Nate running the New York Spectator, a celebrity gossip site, and on Chuck's quest to find his real parents, which leads him to the shocking discovery that Bart is actually still alive.

Shortly thereafter, Bart turns on him, wresting back control of the Bass empire. At the end of the season, B makes a choice between Dan and Chuck and so does Lily between Rufus and Bart. In both cases, the latter won.

Ivy's web of lies finally unraveled, thanks to the addition of the real Charlotte Rhodes (a.k.a. Lola). The two briefly joined forces in the interest of perpetrating a classic Upper East Side scheme; their future is uncertain.

We also very briefly saw Gossip Girl ... or was it a dude?

Serena was last seen leaving town, friendless and senseless, while Dan decides to write a new book about the Upper East Side, with the help of Georgina, which brings us to where we are today, leading into the final season.

Chuck and Bart Photo

All in all, the 2011-12 campaign was not Gossip Girl's best. We can all agree on that, as well as the fact that it was the show's most polarizing. Despite some high points, we're happy to turn the page and move forward.

What's your most vivid memory of Gossip Girl Season 5? Favorite episode? Favorite moment? Most heartbreaking moment? Biggest disappointment? We want to hear from you as we gear up for the big farewell.

Dan and Blair's kiss in 5x17. That kiss transcended the show. It was a perfect, sweet, honest and beautiful moment. The soundtrack, the camera work, the pitch-perfect delivery from Penn and Leighton - the best moment in an otherwise-abysmal season.

season 5 was ok until they brought the real charlie into the picture and until they made ivy and lily to enemies. and until they brought bart bass back.

1. Blair telling Chuck she's pregnant and Chuck crying afterwards. So heartbreaking! 2. The Sleep no more -kiss. But ofcourse the writers managed to almost ruin that by cutting it short. 3. Chuck not taking Blair back after her whiny halfhearted speach about "being scared". I thought she was passed that I don't know 3 SEASONS AGO! The only thing that would have made that scene better is if Chuck would have told her how much he's been hurting the passed year and she would feel at least a bit crappy for her CRAPPY behaviour.

The whole season 5 is a complete failure and was never supposed to happen!

Dan’s spinning Blair was stupid and totally unnecessary, because the whole story between Dan and Blair began in the season 4 as a response of Dan to what Serena did - moved Ben in the Dan’s attic, and then Dan seduced Blair to make Serena jealous . But from some incomprehensible reason the producers refused to fully explain the triangle Serena-Dan-Blair! All those who mourn for Dan and Blair do not have a lot of reasons, because from the start it was doomed to failure! Because in 100 episode, in the wedding of Blair and Louis, Blair told Chuck - I love you every day more and more, if that is a possible! It was unnecessary a sex scene between Serena and Dan, because this scene was supposed to be taken in 1 or 2 season and not in season 5! Sex scene of Serena and Dan, which does not have any sense in that time, and that fans wait for that from end of season 2, because right after comes the disastrous feud between Serena and Dan. This is completely stupid and without any sense! The whole season 5 is a complete failure and was never supposed to happen!

Season 5 was the worst from the first issue of the series! The producers have managed to kill all the characters, and everything that was connected major characters from season 1 was completely destroyed! Dan was from a good guy transform to complete villain. Serena took a walk through the season 5, and events related to the character of Serena had no meaning, except in 100 episode. Blair’s character was completely ruined with stupid and unnecessary story of Blair and Louis, and Dan and Blair. Nate, as usual, there was no reason from him to be there. The only bright spot was the character of Chuck, which has become a better man, but this transformation began back in season 2. The story of Dan and Blair has been a complete failure, designed to allow the conflict between Serena and Blair at the end of the season. Dan’s spinning Blair was stupid and totally unnecessary, because the whole story between Dan and Blair began in the season 4 as a response of Dan to what Serena did - moved Ben in the Dan’s attic, and then Dan seduced Blair to make Serena jealous . 1. Chuck and Blair's kiss in the candy room at Sleep No More. The kiss was cut short, but Chuck, that is not how you kiss someone to let them go.
2. Blair drinking vodka in Darota's apartment, talking about her first "encounter" with Dan.
3. Serena's wedding shower toast to Blair. So sweet.
4. Chuck's apology to Blair. His series of apologies.
5. The kiss between Dan and Blair at the cardiac ball.
All that said, Season 5 was a spectacular disappointment. Hope Season 6 is amazing, as amazing as the first.

When Blair tells Chuck she's pregnant in 5x03
Chuck's apology to Blair
the NY eve scene where Blair looks at Chuck after kissing Louis all of these scenes are sad but they were well done. the rest of season 5 SUCKED SO BADLY. I don't even want to think about it. It was the worst tv I've ever sat through. So miserable and ridiculous and out of character and awful. Ugh I'm done.

Gossip Girl Quotes

And who am I? That's one secret I'll never tell ... You know you love me. XOXO, Gossip Girl

Gossip Girl

Blair: Fashion is the most powerful art there is. It's movement, design and architecture all in one. It shows the world who we are and who we'd like to be. Just like your scarf suggests that you'd like to sell used cars.
Dan: Vanessa gave me this scarf.
