Grey's Anatomy Review: Nothing Left To Squeeze

at . Comments

Grey’s Anatomy returned with "Love the One You're With," an episode that made you question when it’s okay to settle and when it’s not. For one thing, viewers did not have to settle for this episode.

This hour of television was up to the beloved GA standards.

Yang on the Phone

Welcome Back, April! Catching everyone off guard, Kepner returned to Seattle. The tension between her and Jackson was radiating off the screen. Who can blame her? As soon as Avery took his shirt off, he had her. The hour wasn’t even over before the two were back at it. This is a couple for whom viewers can root. April has grown since her character was introduced. She’s no longer much less annoying than she used to be, and she’s honest. A girl with principles is a girl you want to do well. Too bad their secret is out!

Decision Time. The survivors of the crash were presented with the decision to settle with the company behind their plane crash. For some reason, not too sure why, the group had to be unanimous in the decision. There were definitely some pros and cons to doing so. for their children...peace. But what is the right decision? The group chose NOT to take the money so the company will continue their investigation and can prevent it from happening again. How do you react to this?

Cristina Smiles! It is no secret that I want Yang back in Seattle ASAP. I am not alone in wanting her to reunte with her people and there is only so much time you can spend face-timing on an iPad. Yet something changed in this episode. Her finally accepting her new hospital and that she is working with Dr. Thomas just made her arc that much more interesting. Yang tried to be mentored by many surgeons since this series started. It looks like she might have found the right one in the dinosaur. You had to love that ending scene between the two.

Calzona Struggles. How heartbreaking. We were promised that the story with these two, Arizona especially, would be intense and amazing. It looks like we are getting what the writers teased. Callie is right, this is her life now too. This is one arc that I can’t wait to see continue.

Side Notes...

  • Jackson shirtless = amazing...still.
  • Has April ever looked better?
  • Loved Bailey’s Post-It Notes!!
  • The Dream House is absolutely beautiful. Kinda jealous of Meredith Grey in many ways.
  • How long until Alex and his intern start hooking up? Hopefully this becomes a relationship for him.
  • Was it me or were the cases this week just a little more gory? That foot was disgusting!
  • I feel for Arizona, but I am not a huge fan of her when she is mean!
  • Is something going to happen between Yang and her new chief?
Steven Culp on Grey's

Overall, another solid episode from Grey’s Anatomy. The writers are still on point after all of this time. There were plenty of funny Grey’s Anatomy quotes worth checking out.

Sound off below and let us know what you thought of “Love The One You’re With.” And don’t forget to check out the official TV Fanatic Grey’s Anatomy Round Table later this week.

Until next time, Fanatics.

@TheWaiter Alex can't officially run pediatric surgery. He's currently unqualified; he's not even a peds surg attending: he's still only a peds surg fellow. He needs a year and half more as a fellow before he can become an attending in peds surg, and probably neeed more experience before he can be the peds surg chief.

The pilot wasn't at the settlement hearing because, as an employee of the airline, he's handled differently that the passengers; most likely he's under investigation too as he was the pilot.

I think the (old) Chief's statement of "the worse the mistake, the bigger the settlement" was the shifting point for Derek; this was a big settlement, which suggests that the airline knew this was a huge screw up. (And I want to know what happened to the pilot, too!) I thought the shower scene between Callie and Arizona was very effective. We saw the real (old) Arizona emerge, if only for a moment. I get why Arizona is angry, but, really, would she rather that Sophia went from 3 to 1 parent?! Also, and more important, Callie was severely injured the car accident not long ago (though who knows when). It took her months of hard work to regain her strength (though IMO she regained too much; there is no evidence—not even a scar from the—of her experience). In many cases, we can't appreciate what an experience is for someone, but I'm sure Callie can appreciate at least some of what Arizona is going through. One last point. They hire new people, such as the new head of peds. Are these people hired on a temporary basis? If not, Arizona can't come back and just take over. (And Alex as head of peds—as a first-year attending?!)

@Daron - We never have been told about Jerry - I am wondering if he will be a surprise to her on the show in the coming weeks to show Arizona she can triumph & live a good life. At least I hope so ... I don't like when Grey's doesn't "button" things up, such as what happened to Jerry the pilot? I loved the telephone scenes with Owen & Cristina, especially the opening scene with them in separate beds & with Owen laying on her side of their bed. They really love each other. She loves him but it appears that she is going to start having "friend sex" with another boss of hers! That's 4 for 4 for her!! She's a married woman & she was demanding of how could Owen have sex with another woman ... married is married & they still are. I loved the scenes with Dr. Thomas & Cristina - Wm. Daniels was just the best as Dr. Mark Craig on St. Elsewhere back in the 80's - he would let insults fly that would even make "the great Cristina Yang" wince.

I don't like April. i find her whiny and would not like for sn arc with Jackson. Perhaps having Arizona in therapy would her transition. I almost missed the statement about Cristina sleeping withe the Dr. Thomas..

Ok there's still one big question? What happen to the pilot that was flying the plane! How come he wasent at the settlment meeting like the others? No one said that he died. He lose both his legs in plane crash. So should he have a say so about the money? WTF

loved loved loved when Callie told Arizona that this is her life now too. So true. As heartbreaking and painfully hard it is for Arizona to accept how her life has physically changed she is being extremely selfish.

This technique uses the horror of the experience in their favor. And, keep in mind too that the class-action/hospital attorney, unless she is general counsel for the hospital and purely, purely on retainer, will get a cut of whatever settlement you get, so you almost never want to trust their judgment fully on that. I suddenly like the old doc. But first, I liked Christina's interest in his skill and realizing that he may be old, but he's still got some damn good tricks. I think some more time in wherever the heck she is will be good for her. Mer and Der need some time to be a couple. Sad for Owen, and HOLY HELL chemistry with Jackson (OK, is it really hard to have chemistry w him?) and April. I too am starting to like her :) Callie - as usual - broke my heart. Sara Ramirez as an actress (and singer) takes my breath away.

Really interesting point about the NTSB and the plane crashes. We had a small private plane crash up here, and I recall that being true for them too. I can speak to the part about the lawsuit. VERY often, it must be unanimous because the whole POINT of the settlement is to shut them up. You make a fairly attractive offer, enough that it puts pressure on each other to do so. So, someone who may have wanted to take further action if it was just them could be persuaded by their peers to take other action (the lawyers are basically putting the peers in the place of doing their job for them). The more tightly knit the group or horrible the experience, the more you see this tactic. With something like Blockbuster late fees or Firestone/Explorer tires, no one knew each other so it wouldn't work. Call it the "puppy dog eyes" effect :). It's not worth it to settle with some AND leave the room open for more lawsuits from others.

I agree w/you Tess. I don't like Alex intern. And I hope she is not the one that he is suppose to fall for.
