has a job on base which makes her slightly more interesting to me. I absolutely hated the "You're a girl" line. Yes, sadly, people use that term as an insult all the time, but I just don't buy that STEVE would - he has too much respect for women in general and Kono, Cath, etc. in particular, IMO. The case was all kinds of complicated and gruesome, but I don't really watch for that anyhow. All in all, a good, solid episode - pretty entertaining with a few eh moments.

Did anyone beside me get a Burn Notices feel from the show they even had the main bad guy from Brun Notices on there I don't know I felt like I was watching Brun Notices with Hawaii Five O

This episode was a solid B for me. Enjoyable, but it had some grating moments. The bulk of my enjoyment came from the Danny/Kono moments (more of that would be great - they have a very charming brother/sister vibe together and I found him softened slightly with her which made the snark less biting and more enjoyable) and Max (which was a surprise for me because he is not usually someone I enjoy). Chin, as always, was gold, but there wasn't enough of him. I also enjoyed the wide range of Steve moments (over the top rage/disgust at the criminal vs. vulnerable with Doris in the truck). Mom McG is someone I am starting to love to hate - I can't decide if she is evil and only looking out for herself or something else. I am interested in the storyline, but I think a few more episodes of it and I will be at my max. So, I just hope they don't drag it out like Joe White/ Shelburne last year. I am completely ambivalent about Cath - could take her or leave her but i am least glad to hear she stil

Well, I see we still have some "cranks" out there who tune in just to pick at this wonderful show....Wouldn't it be more fun for you if you tune in to be entertained - - There's so many things about it to enjoy -- the producers have put a little bit of everything into this series and it all comes together and works just fine --- I don't see Danny and Steve's bouncing off each other as anything but funny and downright entertaining... and because of the nature of the stories, you have to throw in a little levity... and romance...and comraderie between all of them.... the team and their extensions round out a terrific blend of everything most people would look for ..... and millions of fans love this fantastic cast and how they work together --- Come 'on, sit back and relax and let them entertain you....they have the recipe!....

When are the producers of this once great show going to learn they don't need to add new characters. Get rid of mom, keep girlfriend at home, have guest stars in crime of the week. Worked befoere.

wow! well, i still enjoy the show. enjoyed the episode. am in love with steve. the mother thing is interesting. although i find it odd that a woman who hasn't seen her children in like 20 years, when steve was about 15/16 years old, doesn't have more questions?! like where have u been? who are you? what's your sister doing? i mean, he was a kid. he's a man now. i would be like tell me everything from day one! but...
the steve/catherine thing will have to come to a head. the girl is basically a booty call/helper. she'll have to make a stand eventually. and he'll realize he loves her or not. and then they will probably kill her.

@Adelaide the show will be back October 29 next week there wil be no new episode because of the presidential debate CBS will air that night.
@Elisa I agree with you.
I think Steve realizes that the mother he loved when he was a boy doesn't exist anymore. I even doubt of Doris loves her kids, Steve will keep a close eye on her with help from his team and Cath, he will find out what she is hiding even when the truth will hurt him. I am looking forward to it how this all will play out.

LOVED the twist on the cargument, this time between Kono and Danny.
When I saw Jere Burns in this ep, I thought "Great...fresh from playing a villain on another show, here he is again." Turns out he played a very different, albeit equally repellant character.
And am I correct in thinking that the killer (the son) used his kidnapper to try to kill his mom (in the explosion). THERE'S a twist!!!!
And I STILL don't get why Steve has to put on a shirt to go downstairs in his own house. :-)

I'm sorry, but I find Steve's mother incredibly annoying. Sorry, honey, but you're not the spunky middle-aged soccer mom who can take care of herself. If you could, then why did you run off and hide for 20 (25?) years? And furthermore, if she DID run away to protect her family, why is she now so unconcerned about Wo Fat that she's putting Steve directly into harm's way by hanging out with him? Why the sudden change? She says she's tired of running. She had claimed to be running and hiding for her children's sakes, which I guess doesn't matter to her anymore. Please Wo Fat, come kill her soon.

Kelly, Doris is meant to be kind of a jerk. That is Steve's conundrum. She isn't the mommy he THOUGHT he had and lost. He is having to adjust to who she really is. And neither he nor Danno trust her. Pretty sure Danno don't like her. And Steve isn't so sure he likes her either. But he's playing the game right now because he wants to know what she knows. He played her in the car, at the end, telling her, with that heart melting smile, that he believed her and everything was ok. Then he immediately told Danno he doesn't buy her tale at all. This is fascinating. The lost boy wants desperately to have found, and to love, his mommy. The SEAL smells the same rat you're smelling. And hey, in Real Life, some of us have relatives who are jerks. But they are still family. What's McGarrett going to do? Can't wait to find out!

I liked 3 things about this ep. 1. Kono telling Danny he had to pay because he made more. 2. It ended. 3. I can afford 1 more cup of coffee this week since I won't download thiis ep. I love this show but this ep just didn't do it for me, sorry.

But the plot was better last night and loved Steve jumping into the water after the guy. Nice to see SuperSEAL back again.

Mrs Alex O Loughlin - I never said the characters need to be happy all the time. I said they suffer from bad characterization. Doris is a jerk and I doubt the writers are even aware that she comes across as one. Just as I'm sure they think whiny complaining Danny is wonderful. They don't seem to be able to grasp the concept of subtlety and balance. Lori was a prime example of this and now Doris and imo Danny as well.
Steve and Doris are pretty much strangers, she hasn't seen him since he was a boy. They need to ease into their relationship and not have Doris act ias if she never abandoned her kids. Steve forgives her far too easily and it's blindingly obvious that her story sucks and not just the bit about grappling with WoFat. Doesn't Steve think it odd that she's never asked about her daughter. But there is no depth to any of their relationships. It's pretty much fluff and snark which is fine and can be very entertaining but the writers need better characterization if they want

Sorry but I thought this was easily one of the worst episodes. The series continues to go downhill for me, and I agree with @Kelly - I think the characterization has gone a bit haywire.
Steve's mom, randomly returns and that whole storyline was basically treated like a sitcom plot - lighthearted and fun. I like when the show uses humor here & there (i.e. McDanno) but it was over the top for the seriousness of the situation. They didn't even address the Wo Fat thing until the end, even though that was Steve's whole reason for wanting to find her. It didn't make sense for the history of the situation.
And Steve & Catherine have the same conversation in every episode. He asks her for help on a case (even though a member of the team, or max or phong, could easily handle it) and then she says 'you'll owe me' and then they laugh. It's getting old. I still find her full-time addition to the show pointless.

I too agree that Alex seems to be way happier this season, it is coming accross in his acting, he was not in a good place last year and you can see such a change which is great!
I do not get the complaint on here from Kelly about the characters. To me it does not make sense. A show can not have all the character happy, sweet and cheery. That would be the worst show ever!
Doris is supposed to be the way she is, she has ulterior motives and she is hiding lots of information. Danny is funny, a little whinny, sarcastic etc, these are how the characters are! It works and it is great!

This was another great episode. While I do like the Steve and Danny carguments and their relationship I do like how they are doing the show this year. Having Danny and Kono together and see them in the car was neat. I also liked the scene with Chin going to the house to watch after Doris. Chin is a great cop but he is not so good at Covert Operations. That was funny to watch! Now I want to eat a cream puff!
I am glad that Steve did not buy Doris' story, especially after we saw the only reason she wanted to stay with Steve was to gain access to the film she kept hidden in the house.
I too thought it was the husband!
Any episode that has a shirtless Alex O'loughlin is great to be!

It was good episode I really Liked it I felt sorry for the one who killer his mother was a witch what kind of mother would not DO ANYTHING to get her son away from danger. I did like the Kano and Danny working together it was nice even tho I love McG and Danny as Partners but it was nice that Kano and Danny as partners I hope we get to see more of that in more episodes in the season. Danny is worried about Doris as well as McG I think Danny is looking out for his friend. Can't wait for next episode in two weeks

Was happy to see Catherine helped Five-o with the case instead of looking into Doris past Steve really relaxes around her and smiles a lot - love that. . And again great job from the writers how they used Catherine in this episode.

Last Night Steve was his adorable all Super SEAL again with two wonderful tackles catching the bad guys. I'm glad they are not being fooled by Doris and I am longing to the day Steve call his mother out about everything what happened in his and Mary's live and about the dead of their father.
Loved Danny this episode loved his interaction with Kono at the fortune teller were he had to pay lol till their frist cargument wonderful scene’s and I want to see more. Danny . You can see that Danny suspects that Doris will hurt his friend Steve again he don’t trust her one bit.

Carissa great review, but the reason why Jake killed his friend and mother ( not- stepmother) was because they were having an affair.
I LOVED IT!! great episode no silly bickering and yelling and car chasing this time.
After the opningstune we got Steve and Catherine GOSH!! I LOVE THEM!!
The scene was adorable and Catherine not listen to Steve was great good for her and she is right sometime Steve can be a caveman :lol: The Kitchen scene was hysterical I felt for Cath when Doris said I hope I wasn’t interrupt anything. Doris really is something!!!
Doris I'm liking and disliking her more each episode. Dislike because she is a big liar and she talking about she is done with hiding and want to move back into the McG house and still no mention from her about her daughter Mary at all. Liking because Christine Lahti plays her role perfectly and her scene’s with Alex are great they really play’s well with each other. I only hope she wont be a second Joe this season

Cont....I thought the crime this week was great, I too thought about the father, but its hard to blame the son for his feelings. What kind of mother would risk her child's life, because she was afraid that there would be more people doing the same thing. Loved the headless thing and the way they did it. The writing was good.
As I've said before, I don't like Doris particularly, and I am glad that they are being fooled by her, but I love Christine Lahti, and this is an important part of the back of the McGarrett family. Still can't wait until Mary comes into the picture to meet Mama.
Chin was a little less this week, there will be more mourning and affects down the line. Very few people show grief every moment. I'm still waiting to see Adam, I hope its soon. Great episode.
