I hate to disagree with those who think Robert Carlysle is sexy, but I find that his playing a bad guy in every series who is always mean, grumpy and cruel makes me think he's either a lazy actor who enjoys being typecast or he just is a nasty person anyway and doesn't mind playing himself. He's also so darned tiny, he looks like an old dwarf from LOTR, and I can't find those guys at all sexy. Anyway, I do not blame Belle for wanting to be away from him, he lies constantly, and he never uses his magic as it is supposed to be used. I could see why his wife, though she was quite the witch with a b, wanted to leave him, because he was such a whiny, cringing, clingy little thing that I am sure she longed for someone more exciting. Still, leaving her child to think she was dead was pretty cruel, though I don't think she needed her heart ripped out and pulverized for it. But the best part of this ep for me was Belle's getting to run the town library! I was thrilled and envious at the same ti

@ RayeAnn says : I am smitten with Rumple, I loved Bobby C.even before ouat, now he's got all these different persona's he is playing, and doing a heck of a job! ( Emmy) He is so incredibly handsome, especially when the wind blows, you see his grey sideburns and underhairs, it's a turn- on! Why are all the good ones married! But to satisfy us romantics, we need him & Belle together! Love it!

I say "Go, Rumple!". He's a bad guy and that's just what he is ... so let him be his bad self until true love wins the day and makes him finally into Belle's one true love. Without Rumple the whole storyline might be not so good. And "Dearie Me" we would not want a boring show now would we?!?!
Miss Emma, Snow and Regina though and, if any bad guy/gal should go away toss Regina Mom ... she is the really bad person in all this!
And I, too, can't wait for more of Ruby! She is just fabulous!

@TiffanyO - You and I are on the same page! I don't think Bae is Peter Pan because Neverland has magic (Tinker Bell, endless youth). Bae was sent to a world without magic. Rumple assumes it's our world, as does the audience, which is why he wants to leave Storybrooke so badly.
On Rumple, I found his question on relationships to be soooo bittersweet. We really can't expect him to know anything about healthy relationships other than his love for his son because look at what he had with Mila! Of course he's going to be clueless when it comes to Belle. His character is an interesting display of the victim/bully dynamic. Beaten down for so many centuries, he has a chance to become powerful with magic and takes it. He, like Regina, become the thing they hate most. Watching the tightrope they are on is fascinating.

Spoken word tales like these would get twisted, so it makes sense.
The ONLY thing I can think of is perhaps Smeed was sent on a mission back to Fairy tale land when the curse hit. Could Neverland be where Hook and Cora are now? Is that where Emma and Snow are? I think Emma and Snow will either stowaway or something to that effect to get back - just not sure how.
We pegged Frankenstein over a month ago - the director's name was the clue :) Great play on things, writers!
I still hold out hope for rumpbelle too... it's actually pretty heartbreaking to think of all he went through to find Bae and he's THIS CLOSE and STILL trapped away from him (town line). love the her & ruby friendship. I can NOT see Emma and Hook together.
Do you think we'll even see who Peter Pan is? Does anyone care? I'm not sure I do yet. Unless it's Bae?

@Kay I don't think it's marriages not lasting (in general), I think in almost all of the cases it's the spouse dying for one reason or the other.
I also don't think that Hook is a generally "good guy" as someone else said, driven by revenge of a broken heart. When he thought Rumple was a homeless cripple, he bullied him mercilessly. That's his personality - bully the weak. That's what a *pirate* does. Just because he's hot and the pirates have mystique does not negate that. Mila is a - ugh. As a mother myself I just cannot imagine. And Hook is a first class d**** for putting Rumple (disabled at the time) in a position of having to "fight" for his son's mom. Not that I expected Hook to say "okay" but Rumple did the RIGHT thing by not walking into certain death and leaving his son an orphan.
I disagree about it being bad that Rumple is the villain in so many stories - helps tie them all together and can you imagine just how many MORE characters we'd need if not? Spoken wor

@kansasGuest. I agree that Mila was also a coward. But if Rumple did not die for his cowardice, why would he kill her for hers. I guess we hate the most in others what we despise in ourselves. She was desperately unhappy and wanted to escape the judgement of the villagers, but Rumple refused to leave and start over. She did wrong, they both did. At the end of the day, however despicable it is, people have the right to leave. I did think it unfair that Hook asked a cripple to fight him. Like I said, I was on Rumple's side until he killed Bae's mother. She did not get a chance to redeem herself like Rumple is now getting after all the horrible things he did.
Also curious as to have the wolf thing translates to Storybrooke...

@jlo - Rumple's backstory during the Ogre Wars was already told. After his marriage to Mila but before Bae was born, the men were expected to serve and help defend the area. He didn't and was branded a coward. It isn't like he was a secret agent. His pre-magic self was a disabled spinner who became even more poor when people turned their backs on him.
I *don't* think it was cowardly of Rumple to refuse to fight Hook because he had a little boy to care for. It would have been foolish for him to risk death at that point. Have I made it clear how much I hate Mila for putting her husband & son in that position? She didn't even say goodbye! When it comes to cowardly acts, Mila shouldn't be pointing fingers at Rumple, that's for sure.

Excellent episode! Rumple stories are always interesting to me. It's sad that he never had the chance for a happy family because he clearly hooked up with the wrong woman from the start. I liked and appreciated the background on Mila; especially the way she entered and exited the canvas in the same episode. What a selfish piece of work. Great pirate clothes though.
Hanging Hook's vengeance on her love seems quite weak because no one cares about Mila. Even pirates shouldn't trust someone who leaves their child. I think I'd buy it more if Hook hated Rumple just for cutting off his hand.
Lastly, way to bring back Maurice and introduce Smee! Minor characters, true. But, they make the Enchanted Forest and Storybrooke canvas much richer with their presence.

I'm actually looking forward to the horror-themed episode next week. If Red can still be a fan favorite after devouring her boyfriend last season, then making Dr. Whale a mad scientist wouldn't be out of the ordinary IMO. Clever last name reference to movie director James Whale, BTW, if he does indeed play the part of the doctor. Whale directed the original Universal horror film and its sequel, THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN. Holy smokes! Regina as the Bride?!?! That would never do. The Bride's wardrobe would require a drastic overhaul.

I think there's a possibility that Rumple didn't know about Jefferson, especially because Jefferson was under Regina's control. Regina managed to hide Belle away for a very long time, so she could have simply shielded Jefferson's existence from other people who would abuse his powers like she would. Also, Jefferson did not want to be found. Regina could find him because he had worked for her before.

1) hook i felt was weak, the introduction to his character was a bit blah and goo don rumple for humbling him and avenging for his wife's betrayal to their child and his love.
2) hook has no right to avenge, mila only went with him because he was first guy she met who promised adventure, had he come in the pub 15 minutes later, another tom/dick or harry would have been her new love.
3) belle is bland but she's meant to be, she's still innocent and still rooting for her and rumple here as well, they have to make it.
4) what does this now mean for storybrooke? will everyone come together and defeat cora once and for all. will it have to be regina? snow or even lil old henry......

First, I don't think that the show needs a Peter Pan. Hook covers the Peter plot in that he travelled to Neverland to never age.
Second, I love the concept of Hook, but the actor was subpar compared to the other actors, especially next to Rumple. I cringed at some of his talking scenes on the ship.
Finally, I'm beginning to wonder if any marriages last in Fairytale Land. Most everyone only had one parent: Ruby - grandma, David - real mom, Charming's twin - the King, Belle - her dad, Henry - Emma, Jefferson - wifeless. Maybe Storybrooke residents should investigate the curse of true love rarely coming to fruition in the long run.
Disclaimer: Regina had both parents, but her mom was/is a psycho, so it still doesn't count.

If I can defend Milah a little bit, In some ways she is like Belle, both women wanted adventure and fell for the bad boy. Would Belle really have loved pre Dark One Rumple? We might not agree with her desire that Rumple have fought in the wars but this is a different society from ours. There is a real a story about the crusades where a knight fled and his wife so hated him that he was forced to go back and died. Hopefully the writers will show what Rumple really did during the wars.True Milah leaving her son was bad, but would it have been much better for Bae seeing his mom and dad living in a loveless marriage. She could have done it differently but again this is a different culture where presumably divorce is frowned upon.
One question though, I dont know if they answered this last year but why did Rumple not look for people like Jefferson who can go between dimensions rather than use a curse that pretty much destroyed his world.

Why don't we give some time to other characters like Red/Ruby or Cinderella/Ashley and her prince who disappeared in an episode and was never spoken of again despite Charming's insistence they would find him.
