Blue Bloods Review: Evil Comes Home

by at . Comments

"Nightmares" featured its scary moments, but its sad ones were far more powerful.

I expected more from an episode dealing with voodoo and the Catholic church. It felt as though the crime and the attacker were barely touched upon. I found myself hoping for more background on the Catholic church's stance on the voodoo community or the details of Tusain's exorcisms.

Danny Investigates a Strange Stabbing

The end came too quickly and too neatly wrapped. With that one voodoo ceremony we were left to believe his demons had left but other than the initial attack we never saw much of them to begin with. The hour missed the mark.

It actually seemed to focus more on introducing us to Danny's new partner than the demon story. Speaking of which…

My first impression of Detective Kate Lansing was that I wanted to order her a cheeseburger. Boy, she was skinny. I wished her background in Haiti was used to give us more background into this world and develop her character a bit more. Of course, being a former member of Internal Affairs leaves all types of possibilities for conflict down the line.

But seeing Jackie at the end broke my heart. Danny had a string of revolving partners that first season and none of them clicked before Jackie. The two have great chemistry as partners and friends and I'm really going to miss her. At least we got a farewell scene and a goodbye hug. I'd love to see Jackie return but from published reports of the actress' conflicts on the show I think it's highly unlikely.

Garrett's issues this week were surprising. I didn't see that coming and apparently neither did Garrett, as he explains to Frank in this Blue Bloods quote

The only bells going off were from good whiskey. | permalink

Poor guy definitely got played and I loved that Frank was willing to have Henry go a little old school to get the problem solved. I couldn't take losing Jackie and Garrett all in the same episode. That would just be cruel.

Once again we got some more time with Jamie and his story line was the saddest of all. My grandfather had Alzheimer's and it is a horribly nasty disease. It's as though the person you know disappears while they're still standing in front of you.

Malcolm was certainly stuck in the revolving door of the system and it's scary to think he could just be released over and over again.

I was a little surprised that Jamie didn't recognize Malcolm's stance as a hockey pose right away. It appeared so obvious to me.

The Sunday dinner getting cut short was disappointing, especially since I wanted to hear the back story about why Erin is so into Halloween. I did love the Wizard of Oz themed costumes they wore.

So was I the only one who felt the demon story fell a bit short? And are you willing to give the new detective a chance?

I am beyond pissed right now!!!! The morons at CBC have once again railroaded a wonderful character from an amazing tv show, its the Criminal Minds fiasco all over again.

Your review was on target. I was really disappointed about the truncated voodoo story line. Danny also seemed skeptical about the quick cure ritual. I don't like Jamie the would be police officer who behaves like a social worker. However the story line was very good, realistic and heart breaking. It was upsetting to see Ken Howard, a famous, good and formerly handsome actor looking so old and destroyed. I am no longer looking into any mirrors.

It was clear that the blonde will not be permanent... I take the side of CBS concerning JE... Unlike you or me who get paid when we can't work by vacation, sick days, or disability, actors do not... Actors are independent contractors who get to deduct from their income the cost of their agents etc... Thus if contractors can't work, they don't get paid... like in any other business.. Difference is we get to know the character the actor plays who is a union employee.. the character left the show under the same reasons the actor did... only the character will get paid....

NO chance i'm wasting time on Friday night ...watching any commercial network crapola....last night was College hoops opening night ...and HUNTED on Cinemax....
If i watch that family at the dinner table ..one more time ..i'd throw up!!

The only thing that annoys me more than writers screwing with the characters in a good show is the brass unleashing their egos and displaying their diminished capacity. Did the "big dogs" interpret JE's celiac disease as some kind of affront to their sublime authority? Are they really that stupid or is it a typical case of too much ego and not enough brains?? Keep dicking with the show, fools, and watch it go byebye.

I thought the chemistry between Danny and his old partner was fantastic and she brought a lot of interest to her supporting role. I felt no chemistry and no dimension in the potential new partner. It was a huge mistake to let the initial actress go and I hope it does not set the tone for future mistakes. Blue bloods is one of my favorite shows and I would hate to see it slide.

Not one of their better episodes. As a mom who has raised a son wih celiac disease, I can tell you that it can be a debilitating condtion that interferes with every aspect of one's life. Shame on CBS for the treatment of Jennifer Esposito. I would seem that some accommodation could have been made for her.

Nice review! I agree! My understanding is that there is going to be a trial on new partners for Danny to get one with a good fit. Jennifer Esposito grows on you. It's a shame the way things happened over her illness and the claim by the show that she was grandstanding. The show itself took a hit.

i don't believe that the partner that was with danny will be a regular....from what i read, it will be a string of people....which isn't right....as for JE: the network and show powers that be, DIDN'T even TRY to work with her and her doctor.....as for going OLD SCHOOL: i didn't see anything wrong with that.....i probably would have done the same thing.....this seems to be the first time, anything like this has happened to that guy....and frank TRUSTS him greatly...and didn't want to lose him. alisa

One of the best shows on TV, people who do not watch are really missing a good one. The family parts are always so moving. So true to life.
Love everyone on it, but will miss Jennifer.
Always Tom Selleck one of my favorits.
