Grimm Review: Intersecting Adversaries

at . Comments

"Season of the Hexenbiest" finally brought Nick’s line of focus to the man just below his Grimm world: Renard.

Of course, this is still Grimm we’re talking about, and Nick is still in the dark when it comes Renard’s royal blood. But Nick won’t let up until he knows exactly what kind of man Renard is because Renard is the person Nick can place blame on for his continually caving personal life.

Adalind Returns

Renard isn’t without leverage of his own, however, as he found Nick’s trailer, and while the key itself isn’t there – since Nick has the good sense to hide what people are searching for – there’s still a lot there that is essential to Nick being a Grimm. If the trailer were to vanish, Nick’s effectiveness could be severely hampered.

Even with all the potential fun Renard and Nick provide, Adalind’s return might have been the best part of tonight’s episode. Until now, we’ve only been introduced to vague antagonists while Nick easily demolishes whoever is dispatched to kill him, but Adalind is true a menace to everyone. Plus, Adalind also comes to town with a giant dose of fun.

Adalind is out for blood, and she’s not afraid to go through everyone to get there. Grimm has done a superb job through over the course of the series of putting Adalind in everyone’s social circle, and she pulls just about every one of those strings tonight. She easily plays Nick and Renard against each other all while badgering Juliette about the trailer. She even takes down Nick’s best ally: Hank.

For all the damage Adalind does accomplish, she still didn’t get to Nick’s trump card: Monroe. If Monroe hasn’t earned his honorary Grimm badge yet, he certainly did tonight. Monroe stuck his neck out numerous times, from serving as bait to Adalind’s entourage... being awkwardly evasive and vague as Juliette came to him for information... and having no problems with letting Nick bunk with him. Monroe’s relatively secret partnership with Nick may finally be coming out in the open, though, as Juliette let slip to Renard that he is a friend of Nick’s.

Speaking of Juliette, I’ve gone back to having mild disdain for her. I’m just not enjoying the direction her character is going anymore, mostly because Juliette and her story are getting incredibly old. While this installment offered some clues that she might be slowly regaining her memory, we’re now in episode 12 of 22, and she’s finally now admitting there are some feelings there for Renard. It’s dull, and the sooner things heat up for this storyline the better off her character will be.

At least Nick finally decided he deserved better than the couch and moved out. I just wish he had kicked Juliette to the curb instead of himself.

And just like that, Grimm is done for the year! With only 10 episodes left, what are you hoping to see in Grimm in 2013? Let us know in the comments and head over to our Grimm quotes to read some of tonight’s best lines!

The Captain is barely human so Juliette should not be handle having sex with him. The Captain is keeping things from her but she doesn't have a problem with that. I say kick her to the curb Nick and get someone better. Someone who belives in you and is a help to you and someone you have to save all the time. Also shouldn't there be some job issues with the Captain when the men working under him find out he has been cheating with a follow policeman's girl. Also I would think the upper brass would not be happy with the Captain either. This is why I don't understand why the Captain is not working harder at getting this spell off him. He is losing everything he has worked so hard for just to have sex with boney Juliette!

I use to like Juliette but now I can't stand her. I think the writers of done a good job of making the fans hate her. Sadly I think the writers are moving Juliette towards the Captain whick is sad. Last season when Nick asked her to marry him she said no you are keeping things from me. When Nick did tell her the truth she did not believe him and said he was crazy and he needed help. When she wakes up from a coma and everyone tells her Nick and her where a great couple she does very little to find out why don't I remember this guy. If i was living in the same house as Nick I would do everything in my power to figure out what is going on. He is a great guy and oh so fine. The Captain calls her and she runs to him no question asked. The Captain knows that they are under a spell and has not told her just says we need to fix this. Previes say Rosealee will help Juliette with her problem with the Captain and there is suppose to be some wild sex with Juliette and The Captain. He is barely human Juliette should not be able to handle having sex with him. I hope Nick dumps Juliette and doesn't take her back. But it seems Juliette is ok with the Captain keeping things from her.

It's hard to understand Nick's tolerance of Juliette's coldness and b-ness to him, even if she doesn't remember details about him she could be kinder and try to know who he is now. They haven't made an effort to spend time together or talk to start anew> Juliette has just shut him out.m The kicker for me was when she came to Adalind's defense outside the coffee shop, in Nick's face for arresting Adalind. She doesn't trust Nick or respect him, based on her iciness. He should cut it off with her and move on. The writers should make her more likable or just writer her out to strengthen the storyline overall. Enough is enough!

Get back to The Captain being a badass and get him away from boring Juliette. The writers have hinted at better storylines for him but keep bring him back to boring Juliette. I love when The Captain talks to the little guy who is "with" the family on the phone also love it when he talks to the guy in France in French. Sasha Roiz speaking French is very sexy! Looks like French guy may be dead. Also looks like will be bringing in Russain bad guy who will be against The Captain and Eric. Also looks like French guy was helping The Captain with the resistance. Remember when the guy from the resistance was in town last season and The Captain did not care he was in "His Town". I loved last season when The Captain took care of people who did not have permission to be in "His Town" bring that Captain back! Love the fight club show from last season when he had the Priest take out the guy for disrespecting him. Bring that Captain back!

I loved The Captain last year becasue he was a true badass. This year all his plans are on the back burner so he can sleep with boring Juliette! Come on Captain wake up already. Adalind is a great female character and Roselee is too but Juliette is so stupid. She finally gets around to asking where Adalind is and where is her cat? This girl is slooooooooow! I don't get how all the women can't wait for The Captain and Juliette to get into bed. He is barely human Juliette can't handle being in bed with him. Beside Nick is a babe Juliette is lucky to have him. Kick the Captian's butt Nick and kick Juliette to the curb...get your own place. Get Nick a girlfriend who can kick butt and and get The Captain and evil Queen even though he is a Prince. Has anyone else noticed the wedding band that The Captain wears along with his family crest ring? I love Regina on Once Upon a Time!

Can I just say that I am sooooo tired of wishy washy Juliette! She is a really tired plot mover. Can we find other ways of creating conflict?

Please add my name to the 'get rid of Juliette' list.....lord all mighty have her move in with Renard and live happly ever after .....and out of the viewers (us) sight

losingmymind~He gave the *Coins* to Mamma Grimm. The ones that are supposed to increase one's presence/power. Not the key. He kept the key. Yes, Mamma Grimm did stay in Portland instead of getting on a plane...but we don't know what she's been up to since. She may still be in the area, or she may have continued her maverick investigations elsewhere. We just don't know. (I think that was the writer's keeping their options open)

I'm sorry if this is off topic but...
1) didn't Nick give the key to his mom to get rid of or put in a safe place? and
2) doesn't anyone care/remember that mommie dearest is supposedly still in town? Nick dropped her off at the station and she was supposed to leave, but she didn't get on the bus/train? Does anyone else think she's bound to reappear sooner rather than later?
Maybe my memory is faulty and I need to go back and watch that episode but I'd love any help on these two issues.

@joyful - good point. She has had a lot of clues that something is amiss, though I saw it as things were amiss with Nick (being called a Grimm, he proposed but she turned him down, he called her in to help on a case and some strange woman new she was upset over two men, he demands to know where she is). I can't remember, did she learn some crummy stuff about Adalind? I'm not saying I disagree, I just can't remember...

Grimm Season 2 Episode 12 Quotes

Juliette: I'm really getting sick of being left in the dark all the time.
Monroe: The dark does have its bright side.

I think the time for being careful is over Nick.
