Rationalgal here is some info on Brett Stiles from the episode His Thoughts Were Red Thoughts.
Brett Stiles has been the head of visualize since 1976
Visualize has a student campus in Atherson california called clearview
This campus has 4,642 students from over 27 countries.
In this episode Stlies is able get K. Frye back for Jane. Info. the CBI and the FBI could not get. This indicates that Stiles knows who Red John is and how to find him. He also said Jane was like the sorcerer's apprentice and that he woke up something he might no be able to control. Could Red John be in Vizualize. Brett left the country and went to Jakarta at the end of this episode.

CORRECTION TO PREVIOUS POST: Mesmerism involved hypnotism and mind-over-matter flim-flam, not mind-reading. Sorry about that.

About Brett Stiles and RJ being connected to Jane's family: Could be. Jane comes from a long line of carnival hucksters - flim-flam artists, just as Brett Stiles is with his Visualize cult. A possible spinoff with the following interesting real-life similarity (writers do get their ideas from stuff like this): Christian Science was started by Mary Baker Eddy, who worked the carnival circuit with a guy named Quimby. They had a "mesmerist" (mind-reading) act. When he died Eddy turned the act into a faith healing cult. So now we can wonder which of Jane's family members might be behind the RJ operation. So far we only know of his father and brother-in-law, but we don't know if Stiles (or someone else) is aldo related. (And this might very well be way off the track. Hard to tell the red herrings from the actual clues. Hmmm: "red" herrings? Is RJ everywhere???)

About Rosalind touching Jane's face: Yes it appears to be a false memory, triggered by having watched the movie, "Not Forgotten." In it, Simon Baker plays Jack Bishop, a small town upstanding citizen hiding his past as a contract killer for the Mexican mafia. His daughter gets kidnapped and he wants to find the perp and kill him. He goes to a Hispanic psychic - a BLIND WOMAN WHO FEELS HIS FACE and says things that expose his murderous past and lead him back to it, with violent results. This is a perfect example of how false memory works. If you want to see Simon Baker do really bloody violence, get the movie! (The story at the end is full of holes and defies credibility. Let's hope The Mentalist doesn't end in the same confusing way.)

Jane is the best part of this show. I'm way over the Red John storyline and I don't care for the idea of another social misfit. I was so turned off by the scene w/Volker watching that young girl get murdered. I too knew Lisbon was making a promise she couldn't keep when she told her - "we will protect you." Yeah right - from a guy that wiped out an entire tribe and has no conscience or soul - good luck with that one.

Rationalgal, I get what you are saying about Heller. Even if you knew who Red John was and asked Heller he wouldn't tell you. It would throw the whole series down the toilet. But don't you think it's kinda interesting that the information still adds up. Tagliaferro means iron cutter and now we Know Jane means iron cutter. Which backs my therory up. Which is that it's someone from Janes family. Now we have two iron cutters. As Jane says, the are no coincidences. We have a lot of information. It's like not seeing the forrest for the trees. I'm going to look a one tree at a time. B. Styles is the first tree!

Entwife, if that is the case, I'm positive she did not touch Janes face at the door. She asked to feel Lisbon's badge. I watched the episode this morning.

@anitraward1 If Rosalind did feel Jane's face, it would have been Red John's Footsteps. I've looked at some online written stuff and can't find a mention, but don't have the episode so I can't be definitive. I just have a picture of it in my mind near the porch or inside the front door shortly after introducing himself. Maybe it's a false memory lol, get so desperate for clues sometimes.

Couple of things: About Jane's name, Heller said he chose it because it is an Irish working class name. Iron cutters are working class, for what it's worth. Also, it is possible that Jane was set up to work with CBI by the FBI as a means of baiting Red John to get him out where they could find enough evidence to convict him. The FBI mose surely has been desperate to find this guy, given his ability to infiltrate them. Jane would be perfect, with his desire for revenge and mentalist abilities. He may even be doing this deliberately for the FBI. He didn't seem surprised at the end of the episode when Jane met the FBI guy for the first time and found he (Jane) was well known to him. Jane certainly hasn't been doing much to find RJ, but serves mainly as someone to draw RJ to the surface. Just one more of many possibilities.

Wow! Guessing you are right. I never thought of Red John that way before. This could be a even bigger clue. We may be able to porfile Red John through what his minions say and do. I think you found something big. Lots to work on.

Also Jane and John are interchangeable in other languages. I think Jane may have an evil twin, which could be female or male. or it's someone else in his family. someone he knows. I will be looking into something B. Styles said to Jane.

Red John is Roy Tagliaferro watch the episode in Red John's Footsteps. He had an affiar with Rosalind and left his symbol on her bed room wall.
I don't think Rosalind ever touched Jane's face. I don't think Jane is Red John but I do Think It's some one in is family. They showed the name Tagliaferro like they showed the lottery information. The only difference is that the name had to be translated to english. So I looked up the names of Red John, Jane and Roy Tagliaferro. Roy Tagliaferro definition describes Red John. Roy means red head... there are a lot of red heads in the series.
Entwife
November 15th, 2012 1:06 PM
Wait. Red John is Roy Tagliaferro so Rosalind has felt his face and Jane's. So Jane couldn't be RJ or Rosalind would have recognized him. Right?
Entwife
November 15th, 2012 1:00 PM
Did Rosalind ever feel Roy's friend's face (assumed to be RJ)? If so, she would have recognized Jane as RJ right away when she felt Jane's face.

November 15th, 2012 12:28 PM
@anitraward1 Are you thinking that Jane is Red John? Like a split personality thing? I admit in earlier years, I kind of thought the same thing and maybe the writers were going that angle, but now I think they have moved away from that idea. I think Red John is his own person, sort of the other side of the coin so to speak. Yes, Jane can be a big JERK and down right mean and dark, but for story reasons he still is the "good" side of the coin. On the other hand, I think Red John appears "good" outwardly to others (not in his inner circle or those hunting him), but deep down we know is evil. Like the "guy next door" no one can believe is a mastermind and killer when caught.
Whatever is the truth is, I hope that Sunday's show gives us more information and lots more to talk about.

Clue-meaning of the name Red, Very inquistive, restless and nature seeking. Impelled by intense desires that cannot be satisfied or comprehended...
John- the Lord is Gracious
Roy-red,red hair, king, king regal.
Tagliaferro-italian, from Tagliar to cut + ferro iron. An occupational name for an iron worker or a nick name for a strong ferocious fighter, one who was adept at cutting through the cuirass of the enemy with his sword
Jane is the feminne form of John. John has 85 varient forms Jane is one of them.

First of all yeah two Fringe alums in one episode. I like Volker as a new villain. Lisbon has been quiet this season. Her expected casket blowing from the revelation of Jane sleeping with Lorelei never appeared and frankly she's been too quiet. She's a fighter and she hasn't had a good fight all season Volker will provide that. Bob from Homeland Security seems to be protecting Lisbon, that should be fun. If he is this seasons Red John stand-in its the classic the evil you know scenario. All in all a much better episode than we've had of late. To quote Janes' daughter 'Boy am I sick of Red John' ;)

Jane has a past of conning the police as a psychic detective! Remember he is a ex-con-man! We need to profile Jane. I'm starting to question his motives for finding Red John besides the killing of his family. His revenge appears to be twofold. First the killing of his family and second the fact that a serial killer had the audacity to chastise him about what he was doing. Think about what a con man really is. The writer's have really hidden Jane's past on purpose. Jane is not as cuddly as the writer's are making him. Hence season 5, the dark side. LET THE MIND GAMES BEGIN!

Jane knows he lied when he gave that description. That is why he says so vehemently that he is a fraud. He knows that lis got his family killed. Jane has never once in the whole 5 years of the show used that description again. Also now we know that Jane has woked with the police before. So he knew what he was doing in Red Dawn after he got out of the mental institution. He already knew police protocol. Makes you think, dont't it? Jane knew exactly what he was going to do when he walked into the CBI in the episode Red Dawn.

Jane was working with the police as a psychic when Red John left him the note. The note is self explanatory! The only thing I question in the note is why Red John used Mister instead of Mr.

You can not base your search for Red John based on what you saw in the pilot or the deleted scenes. Jane was in con mode acting like a psychic. Which means nothing he said was true. Jane himself has said he was a fraud. Jane is not a serial killer profiler. Even if he were, he would have had a description unless there was awitness. Jane cold reads people which means he would have had to meet Red John to make his description true. Since he has not met Red John his discription can not be true. The only thing Jane knows about Red John is his M.O. Information gained at RJ crime scenes.

I force myself to look into that flame and I see an image of the evil doer, in this case RED JOHN. He is an ugly tormented little man, a loney soul, sad, very sad. The police asked me to get a psychic fix, to see if I could get a since of who this man is.
